Uhm, because it gets boring once you own everything? It’s only fun to drive around to collect your money for so long, then you start blowing up crap just to get some action again, but the fun doesn’t last very long that way.

MemberUnfortunately without you telling us what kind of error message (if any) you get when you try to start an audio chat, all I can do is guess.
If both you and the other party have Windows XP, you could try starting a “video conference” instead of starting the webcam and audio seperately, this will start them both at the same time, and for both you and the other person.
If your chat partner doesn’t use Windows XP, you can’t start the “video conference”, but you could try starting the audio first and then the webcam (or vice versa).
If you want it to be a two-way chat, you could also try the other party inviting you first and then you invite them.It might take a while to figure out which order you find works best, and it might not even help at all, but I’ve found that this does often help if the other party is on a slow (dialup) connection.

MemberAre you trying to use the mic that’s in the webcam (assuming there is one), or a seperate mic?
Have you checked the audio settings in Windows to adjust the volume for the mic?
Have you checked the advanced audio settings and enabled “volume boost” for the mic (might not be applicable for your sound card though)?
Which application are you using to record the video?FrutZle
MemberRuff Dawg, unfortunately the StyleCam Delux pages on the SiPix site don’t say anything about the cam working with MSN Messenger. Only netmeeting is mentioned, but that’s not what we’re looking for.
It’s possible that that webcam isn’t supported by MSN Messenger. Contacting MSN Messenger support directly to see if they can shed some light on possible compatibility issues seems to be your best bet.miccikoz, that webcam should work just fine, as it’s the latest model and Logitech pretty much made the webcam feature in MSN Messenger 6. You did run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard and got the cam working there just fine, right?
I don’t think your cable company probably will be able to help you much. One thing you could do is find someone to try and start a webcam chat with, then disable your firewall, try to start the webcam convo. If it works, you know the problem lies with the firewall. If it doesn’t work, you’ll know that you have to search for the problem & solution elsewhere.
If it does turn out to be your firewall that’s causing the problem, turn the webcam off and the firewall back on a.s.a.p. to prevent possible problems as a result from your computer being unprotected for a certain amount of time. Post back here to share the results so we (probably someone other than me) can try to help you get a step closer to getting your problem solved.FrutZle

MemberI haven’t seen my friend who lives in the UK online yet, but I did find this site that might help you find a good, affordable broadband provider in the UK: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/
There might be a similar site for cable internet providers, but I couldn’t find one worth looking at.FrutZle
MemberJust a few questions that might clear things up and get you closer to a solution:
Does it not work for you, but does the person on the other end get to see you, or does the cam feature not work at all?
Is this with all contacts you’ve attempted to start your webcam with, or only with one contact?
Can you view other people’s webcams?
Which webcam (brand & model) are you using, and have you installed the latest drivers for that cam?
Are you using the latest MSN Messenger version?
Do you have a firewall and/or router installed?
Can you use voice chat without problems?FrutZle
MemberIf you make any changes in the Windows registry, make sure you write down the value you’re going to change before you do anything else. That way, if it doesn’t help solve your problem, you can change it back.
You could also make a backup copy of your Windows registry before you make the change, but that’s a bit more work and in this case not really necessary.FrutZle
MemberI’m not entirely sure how that’s dealt with in the UK, but we pay our telephone subscription, but not the actual time you’re online as it’s so-called flat-fee internet. So we pay our ISP and the phone company for the DSL connection.
Prices differ a lot between the speeds that you want. If you merely want a higher speed than what you have now, you won’t have to pay a lot. If you want the best there is, you’ll have to dig into your wallet and shell out the pounds. If you want I can see if I can get some information about good broadband providers in the UK. It could help you find out whether or not it’s interesting for you.

MemberI played it, and I thought it was really really good. I don’t play a lot of computer games, but it blew me away with the incredible graphics, lifelike movements and very interesting plot. The only thing I hate about it is that it’s so short.
As I said, I don’t play a lot of computer games, but I finished Max Payne 2 in five days (playing a few hours a day). On GameSpy.com they said a hardcore gamer could finish it between 4 and 8 hours, depending on how thoroughly you search through all the places for hidden items.FrutZle
MemberWindows XP doesn’t need the Logitech drivers, and last I read, it was advised not to use them on Windows XP because the standard drivers are already in XP.
The problem with you not being able to have both audio and video at the same time might be related to your 56k internet connection. Since the video stream takes up a lot of bandwidth due to the constant refresh, it’s possible that it doesn’t leave enough bandwidth for the audio stream.
You can try starting audio first and then video, which might solve the problem temporarily, but I doubt it will as your connection will run out of available bandwidth sooner or later.FrutZle
MemberI don’t know AOL IM myself other than having had it installed for two minutes after which I got so sick of it that I uninstalled it.
However, Yahoo IM has both audio and video capabilities.FrutZle
Memberif she’s on dial-up and has other programs running that consume bandwidth, it’s quite possible that MSN Messenger says there’s not enough for both of you to have voice turned on. Try it with only one of you having voice on. If that works, you can be almost certain the problem lies with her connection/bandwidth.
Also, you could try turning on voice chat one at a time, first her than you, and first you than her. Sometimes that makes a difference too, though I doubt it’ll help.

Memberif audio doesn’t work, there’s always the possibility that either of you are just on a connection that isn’t deemed fast enough by MSN Messenger. If you can let us know what both of your connections are, someone can tell you whether or not the problem might lie there 🙂

MemberHow much are you willing to spend? Once you’ve set a limit on how much you can, or are willing to spend, advise can be given. Otherwise I’d just tell you to go get a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000, but those are definitely not cheap 🙂
