update about aim chat rooms
i just joined a number of aim chats using both classic AIM 5.9 and the third party AIM client, Pidgin (previously known as GAIM). The aim chat rooms I joined were still popular ones such as Alone at Home and Bored. There were no connection issues between me and the AIM chatrooms. The way I joined these aim rooms were by use of an . just log into AIM and give the aim chat link a click on that directory and you’re in! enjoy.i use MessengerMate for tabbed windows. it attaches itself to AIM so there’s no extra app you need to run or anything, so you can still keep everything neat. it tabs not only IMs but also aim chat rooms. all in one window, with it you can also separate tabs from it with simple dragging. easy pz. since it is no longer in development and has been given up on, it’s now given out freely and is now considered freeware (as stated by the owner), so a quick google will provide you a free download.
there was also a addon (a .ocm file) that allowed you to get into multiple aim chat rooms at once (10), so all the chats would be able to be tabbed aside from having separate windows, pretty neat stuff. 🙂 aim chats list
no he was successfully logged in, but it sounds like a laggy connection problem. that usually happens in times when you have a slow, interrupted connection to the AOL network.

America Online is going after all websites piggybacking off of their traffic, ie: aimchatdirectory. which is why its closed.

That’s good that you were able to recover your screenname. I’ve been the victim of a hack once or twice throughout my days of being a regular internet user. Lost a screenname here and there, I was young at the time, young and foolish. Didn’t care, just made another one. :p

does aim 7.x even have option to edit your buddy information? i used it for a very small amount of time and i don’t recall seeing a way to edit your information.
so glad i don’t keep with the upgrades. using aim 5.9 and going strong. the upgrade isn’t a must. you can always uninstall and downgrae to aim7.4 ya know.
aol’s stupid for trying to disallow third party clients. they are failing. i.e: pidgin, trillian, etc.
