Good eye, Doris!
VvWolverinevVParticipantWelcome to BBB rickthom ๐ That is some very strange behavior I must admit. When you say “at the top of the log window”, do you mean the conversation window? In the Instant Messaging world, “log” generally refers to “a saved copy of a conversation for future reference”.
Whatever you mean by “log window”, I suggest completely uninstalling AIM and reinstalling. Do to the strangeness of your issue, I also highly recommend updating your antivirus software and doing a full system scan. If you don’t have antivirus software or your subscription license has expired, uninstall anything that has expired, and pick up some free antivirus software such as Avira or Avast.
VvWolverinevVParticipantOh man, cracked your helmet?! Glad your noggin is still intact. Heal up so’s you can get back on teh interwebz.
VvWolverinevVParticipantOkay, I just did a little test, and after changing the topic, the old URL does redirect to the new one. However, you do need the entire old or the entire new URL. The thread number alone is not enough. Consider yourselves educated :p
VvWolverinevVParticipant๐ Thanks all! It’s good to be part of the crew, and just in time for the new AIM 7! Between this and my new software development job, I think I have officially transitioned from Physics to Tech :p
VvWolverinevVParticipantI’m out of ideas ๐ What you’re describing is very strange, and I have never experienced anything like it with any version of AIM. Let us know if you are ever able to track it down.
VvWolverinevVParticipantThanks, MrOats. Good to be part of the crew ๐
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi swheeler, and welcome to BBB ๐
Conversation is displayed at all logged in locations. However, outbound messages are only displayed at the location you send them from. This means that if you have a conversation from one location, all other logged in locations will display your buddy’s messages, but not your own; it will look like a one-sided conversation.
VvWolverinevVParticipantAfter I click browse, my client allows me to browse my computer for a buddy icon… I am using version 7.0.3.17, but I remember AIM 6 behaving the same way.
VvWolverinevVParticipantAnodyne, did your internet connection recently become less reliable (such as switching to a wireless connection)? Your issues sound like client side connectivity issues rather than linked SN issues.
VvWolverinevVParticipantWelcome to BBB, alphanumeric8 ๐
First, I hope you can take away from this that backing up important data is… well… important. At work, all of my documents are backed up daily, and at home, I try to back up my system every 3-6 months. Coming from someone else who has been through the painful experience of losing data, I can tell you it is well worth the effort.
Now for the problem at hand, have you recently upgraded or changed your AIM client in any way? What version of AIM are you using? Have you tried searching your computer for the file .html (where is the screen name of the buddy whose log you lost? Finally, is your buddy logging your conversations so that you could ask them to send you a copy?
VvWolverinevVParticipantpancho111, I think there are some server side issues. For a number of my older screennames, I have tried unsuccessfully to change my contact email address multiple times ๐
VvWolverinevVParticipantairtas, from the Settings window, click the Expressions tab. There should be an image of your current buddy icon. To set it, click Browse…
VvWolverinevVParticipantYeah, Hoff is right on the money there.
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi, Sith, and welcome to BBB! ๐
What web browser are you using? In general the web browser decides what to do with any given protocol when you click on a link. For example, when you click on an http: link, your web browser opens the content itself as a web page. In the case of an aim: link, you have to configure your web browser to send the content to AIM6. If you are a Firefox user, this link may help: The protocol is not associated with any program
