Well, damn, that backfired 😛 I’m going to deny it though. Although I do find sexy Arab girls appealing, I don’t remember demonstrating that via my web browsing… Age and marriage status profiling maybe?
VvWolverinevVParticipantmarko2112, this is a great question. I just checked my logs, and a photo that I sent to my buddy four months ago still resolves and displays the image without any authentication… Unfortunately, I don’t know of any way to ask AOL to take the image down. Does anyone know?
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi Liz,
I have never experienced the bug you describe. You might try installing the new AIM – they restarted the numbering, so the latest version is 1.0.9: AIM | Chat, Share, Connect
Other than that, make sure that you are not accidentally blocking your friend and that they are not blocking you, and that you each have the other on your buddy lists.
VvWolverinevVParticipantI was having some problems with the AIM servers last week. You might try again today or tomorrow.
VvWolverinevVParticipantWelcome to BBB, Yarg682! What do you mean by the “call feature on the computer”? What program are you calling from? If you are calling from AIM, the Video Chat function only works between chat clients AFAIK.
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi Stu, another option is to go all in on Gchat by adding your AIM buddies to Gmail chat with this tool: AIM – Chat with all your Buddies & Facebook friends
I haven’t done it, because I still like the standalone AIM client, but if you like the Gchat interface, it might be right for you.More on the interoperability of Gchat and AIM: http://mashable.com/2011/05/19/gmail-aim/
July 28, 2012 at 3:59 am in reply to: Mobile phone number receiving text messages from someone on AIM #177570VvWolverinevVParticipantWelcome to BBB Itsxtruex3! Sorry for the late reply, but you should be able to block users from IMing you on your phone by doing the following:
- Upgrade to AIM 1.0 if you haven’t already here: AIM | Chat, Share, Connect
- After logging into the new AIM client, click File>Settings and click on the “Text messaging” tab on the left.
- Click “register a mobile device”, enter your phone number, click “Send Code Now”, and enter the code you receive on your cell phone.
- A new bar will appear for your confirmed cell phone number. Click “Edit” next to that number, and simply check “Block users from sending messages directly to
“.
When a new screen name IMs your phone via text for the first time, there may also be a “cover text” from AIM with instructions on how to block texts from that screen name only, but that may have changed since the upgrade to AIM 1.0.
Good luck and let us know if this solves your problem!
VvWolverinevVParticipantHey Jeff,
Have you thought about using other hosting services like SquareSpace? I’ve heard that WordPress is vulnerable to security holes if you don’t update regularly.
WRT the new discussion forum layout, I am not a fan. I really like vBulletin.
But I would have to say, even more important than deciding between vBulletin and bbPress, the site NEEDS to have a mobile version. Have a look at AndroidCentral for an example of forums done well for mobile.
My two cents.
VvWolverinevVParticipantHello Andrea, and welcome to BBB 🙂
I’m not sure about this version, but in the past, AIM has been very Internet Explorer-based. The buddy list and IM windows used the IE layout engine. It might help to uninstall and reinstall IE (or just upgrade to IE 9 Beta if you’re feeling adventurous: Internet Explorer 9 Beta – Microsoft Windows).
VvWolverinevVParticipantI just upgraded to 7.5 myself, and unfortunately it looks like that is the only way to view profiles in this version. I agree this is not ideal. I would like to exclude my browser from the equation; that’s the reason I downloaded a full client in the first place! Alas, it seems that AIM is pushing Lifestream at the expense of people who want nothing to do with it.
As an alternative, you can view buddy icons and status messages within the buddy list via the Options>View menu. Also, you can activate a “buddy details” flyout via Options>Settings>Buddy List>”Show buddy details on rollover in Buddy List”. These may give you everything you want to know about your buddies without using a browser.
VvWolverinevVParticipantThat’s interesting, Steve1209. I’m using AIM 7.2.7.2 on Windows 7 64-bit, and I haven’t had any issues at all. Have you experienced any? If you read about it, do you have any links?
lilrobo, it looks like the latest version is 7.3 from aim.com. If you’re using version 7.1, why don’t you try a complete uninstall and then install version 7.3?
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi, tiv, and welcome to BBB. This may be what you’re looking for: http://cerjturb.net/InstallVario.exe
Make sure to do a comprehensive virus scan though. I just found this link with Google. I’ve never even heard of cerjturb before. Post back, and let us know if this solves your problems 🙂
VvWolverinevVParticipantSteve, if you are unable to fix this issue via the sound preferences window, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling your AIM client.
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi, pulikutty, and welcome to BBB 🙂
You might try upgrading to IE8. I know that AIM uses some Internet Explorer resources for some of its display. Also, if you have any addons installed (like AIM+ or AIM AdHack), you might try removing those.
Let us know if either of these work for you.
VvWolverinevVParticipantHi and welcome to BBB 🙂
Have you tried changing the port (for example to 5191 or 5192)? If someone else on your network is using port 5190, your router may not be letting you connect on the same port. I especially have this issue when trying to connect to AIM with iChat when my sister is also on iChat on the same network.
