MemberIf you do not want an add-on AIM 5.5 says when a person is away and when they come back in the message window, but you had to have said something to them.

MemberI believe you could simply get an AIM sn and then download a program that supports multiple clients such as trillian. that would probably be a better option for you.

Memberthanx, I heard it had been taken out and I only looked for it in program files not application data.

MemberThe technical question has been answered, no. However, if you send them the link aim:addbuddy?screenname=screen+name&groupname=buddies
it will open an approval screen on their computer and they may choose to add you to their list.rascat
MemberThey do support multiple clients, but why not? If you want to keep AIM, you can skim it quite a bit. https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9157

Memberif the names are registered under the same e-mail address you can find them by going to ‘find a buddy – by e-mail address’. other than that I don’t think there would be a way to find out without something.

MemberCheck out the AIM Security Alerts post https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9562
there are a lot of good programs people have made/posted on here to deal with viruses, worms, bots and pretty much anything you don’t want. just look around for a while and you’ll find what you need to know.rascat
MemberYou can search your computer for Aimres.dll, it should be in Program files/AIM. since you didn’t know where it was, my guess is that you haven’t deleted or edited it. when you installed the older version, did you uninstall everything on the newer version first? if not, you might try uninstalling and deleting all files associated with AIM and reinstalling them all.

MemberSomeone sent me a message while I was invisable and away from my computer once from a different fourm. I didn’t have them on my buddy list, and they don’t know me. Is it possible that I showed up as online on their list even though I was invisible??? Or is there a hack to see people who are invisible? I really don’t think they would have randomly tried to send me a message while it said I was offline. I don’t need to know how to do it, I like being invisible instead of signing off, but if some people still think i’m online I can’t do that anymore.

Memberthis sounds a lot like the problem rock15478 was having in his posts. It might be a glitch AIM is having with its servers in that case, he claims its not a problem with his computer or program as well. you might want to check out that thread and see if it is the same thing.

MemberOn AIM 5.5 you should be able to sign on while invisible if you link a sn. if you make a new one up that no one has, and set that one as the one you sign onto, the other one will sign on as invisible. then you can just switch names, make them both invisible or do whatever you want. unfortunately I can’t find a way to do it with just one name. one of the add-ons may have that feature, but I don’t use any of them, so I can’t help there.

MemberThere should be an option somewhere in prefrences not to accept expressions. It varies from version to version so I can’t tell you specifically. If you tell me what version what you are using I might be able to help. I know you can at the very least turn off the sounds and buddy icon with any version, you should be able to turn off the expression – I agree it is very annoying.

MemberThe answer is no, but Shadowcrest isn’t exactly right. If you are an AOL user or you pay for AIM expressions, then others will be able to see them without having to do anything. However, with the austrailian expressions or creating your own expressions the person must download them. I believe, even if they download it, it won’t show up only when they are talking to you, as you have it configured. It would if you paid for it. If it is an “unofficial” expression it must be configured and seen independently on each computer. The smileys on the austrailian versions should work if the person has AOL or a high enough version of AIM (5.2 I think)

MemberIn 5.5 you can appear offline by clicking the eye; it is really easy; you don’t have to have any screennames linked. Anyone can send you a message (only if they know you’re actually on and manually type in your name or you IM them first) and you can send anyone messages. a few of my friends on really old versions of AIM or AIM express have said they could not send me messages while invisible, but for most it works just fine.

MemberIf you take yourself off a “stalker’s” buddylist – can’t they just add you again? I don’t see why this feature is very useful at all. Can someone explain?
