What exactly qualifies you as an “expert” regarding an instant messenger? I’ve been using AIM since 1997.
RebirthMemberI’ve always been interested in this, too. It’s pointless having such a link when people can just hover over it and see it’s some kind of tracker.
RebirthMemberYeah, I know. As I said before, I gave up hope awhile ago of getting the picture. I just wanted to let the other person know, really.
RebirthMemberHmm, it’s a bit odd. In the HTML, there’s a new line for where the picture is, even though in the actual conversation, it wasn’t sent in a new line, but the previous line with some text. Anyway, it does tell me the name of the file, the height, width, and size. However, this conversation was originally logged from my last PC in 2004. It was then transferred to this PC when I bought it. So I doubt it would be anywhere else. I did search anyway, though. No luck.
RebirthMemberYes, I am. I’m sure biggun is too. That’s the default way to open them, and I’m not even sure how else you could open them.
RebirthMemberGetting in contact with the person and trading is basically your only hope. I remember AOL always used to say deleted screen names would get recycled six months after its deletion, but I believe that to be untrue, and I have never seen anyone prove it to be true. I myself have tracked quite a few screen names over the years. The screen names would never show up, and though I realize you can allow only the people on your buddy list to see you’re online, I doubt all of them happened to be doing that. I’m sure some of them were actually deleted, yet even after a year, I was never able to make the screen name for myself.
RebirthMemberSure thing. I know how frustrating it is to know there’s no other way to get the picture than that one source, so I will be happy to let you know.
RebirthMemberI felt the same way you did. The file size of the conversation does indeed suggest there is more than just the text there. But I’ve been long out of ideas. I don’t see any way of getting them back.
RebirthMemberI wish there were a way. I myself am in the same exact position. The huge empty space with the X really just mocks you 😛

RebirthMemberIf you want to delete all of the AIM files, you can start your PC in safe mode, then it should allow you to delete the files.
RebirthMemberSo far, I don’t believe there is a way to log the time each message was received. I always have timestamps showing, but it doesn’t appear in any of my logs. Also, I don’t believe you can log images. I hope to see a lot of these issues fixed soon.
RebirthMemberAnytime 😀
RebirthMemberIt’s silly that they never delete screen names, especially when they have always said that they do. Personally, if someone doesn’t use a screen name at all in a year, it deserves to be recycled for someone else that actually would use it.
RebirthMemberI can confirm that you can send offline messages to people that aren’t using 6.0. However, you cannot send them unless you are using 6.0.
