MemberThat happened to me once, I was chatting on AIM with a good friend of mine, and I said something like “shut up fool” just as an im window from a girl opened. It was quite embaressing, but she laughed it off cuz she’s had the same thing happen. So now I use trillian, so I don’t have to worry about that much. I have the option that all new windows don’t pop up, they stay hidden until I click on the triliian icon in the system tray. I just hear the incoming message sound and get the blinkink systray icon, but it doesn’s steal focus from the im window I’m currently chatting in. works for me π

MemberSome plants can ‘feel’. There’s a whole group of plants called ‘sensitive’ plants that can feel and react to being touched. And heck, some plants even eat animals. A Venus Flytrap can feel when an insect has crawled onto it’s leaves, and it’s considered a carnivorous plant. There are certain vines that can grow real long and have been known to capture and kill frogs, birds and rodents. So while plants don’t have nerves like we do, they still show signs of feeling things and being ‘touch-sensitive’. We don’t see a plant jumping back and saying ‘ouch’, but how can we really be sure that they’re not feeling pain?

MemberThe funny thing is I’m hispanic (born in Cuba), and I wasn’t offended by Qwerty’s comments. I guess I’m not that politically sensitive π But yea, I can see how those comments could be viewed as offensive.

Ahem, allow me to re-enlighten you:
“But to be totally fair, I also know quite a few people who admit taking great pleasure in eating meat because of some bad experience they’ve had with an animal earlier in their life. I know this one guy, he used to be a bullfighter back in south america. He was attacked by a bull once, he tells me he makes sure his wife prepares him a nice bloody juicy steak every so often. Kinda morbid if u ask me, but I guess stupid excuses run on both side of the fences”
Do you like your humble pie with or without crow? π
I really wouldn’t have a problem eating a dog as long as u throw some A-1 steak sauce on it, yummy! π
OK, I agree I should be more civil. I just like speaking my mind, I should do a better job of re-reading my post before I hit the reply button. I don’t make any excuses for anything I have said though. I had a long sit down with a vegeterian co-worker today. We went at it back and forth a few times. He would state his arguement, I would shoot it down. The only one we kinda came to a stalemate was on the issue do plants ‘feel pain’? This is something I wanna look more into, I know plants ‘react’ to certain situations, like a plant in a window sill will tilt towards the sun to comsume as much sunshine as possible. And some plants have known to ‘respond to injury’ by growing new limbs ‘branches’, if u will. But I admit, this is not good enough for me to consider it a ‘conscience’. Some would say a tomatoe is still alive when picked from the vine, it can develop color, is this a defense mechanism of fear, pain? can’t say for sure. I’d have to have a long sit down with a plant biologist, or at least spend half the night googling the darn issue π We do know plants are alive and at some point die or are killed for human comsumption. Heck, we haven’t even mentioned all the germs we swallow when we eat, those are living things we ‘kill’ or ingest, like it or not. I’d hate to have 22-inch tapeworm in my intestines, but that happens also. So I guess my biggest issue is at what level of species does a vegeterian decide it’s ‘okay’ to have this life form killed in order to not starve. Eating anything pretty much involves the death of something. For a vegeterian, it’s a matter of ‘who’s death is insignificant enough for me to sleep at night’.
OK boys and girls, how was that, civil enough for ya, I kept to the topic as best I could, see, me good boy π

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by RabidKittenWow…”get a better chef” …that has to be the singularly most arrogant, stupid, narrow minded and self important thing I’ve ever heard when talking about vegetarianism. You were talking about stupid reasoning, well, thank you for giving one of your own. Seems I’ll have to give up my crown when it comes to being the most insulting person on BBB…damn.
You know, I could have a pork chop cooked every single way that a pork chop could be cooked, and I’d bet you $10 that I still wouldn’t be able to choke the thing down. My sister doesn’t like strawberries. I cannot fathom why she wouldn’t like them but, hey, to each his own. People dislike all sorts and shapes of things, but is it really so hard to fathom in that pea sized mind of yours that someone may not like something meat related? Hell, I don’t nessisarily like the idea of eating seal eyes, but some people do. I couldn’t stomach eating a sheeps bladder, and yet there’s haggas. People have preferences, that’s why they ask “How would you like that cooked” when you order a steak.
“Get a better chef” Gah. Look kid, you can’t understand why someone would choose to not eat meat. I cant understand a lot of things. I can’t understand why someone would choose to punch 10+ holes in their head then stretch them out until you can stick a crayola marker through them. I can’t understand why someone would choose to live with 15 cats and call them all “baby”. I can’t understand why someone would choose to slander the english language in favor of “quicker and easier” typing even though it makes them look uneducated and foolish. I can’t understand why someone would choose to date their cousin. I can’t understand why someone would choose to butter toast, then put jelly on it. I can’t understand why someone would choose to vote for Bush. I can’t fathom why people would choose to do a lot fo things, and that doesn’t mean I have to agree with them either, but it does mean that when arguing my case, it is my personal responsibility to be as calm, collected, logical and falacy free as possible so not to come off as a complete buffoon. You should try it sometime.
The Asian Restaurant bit was a shame as well but *shrug* i’ve heard worse and I’m sure someone else will go at you for that one later on.Wow, little Kitty, I really ruffled your whiskers there ey, touched a nerve maybe. Yea I’m good at that, u can call me controversial, just never boring π U can call me a bafoon or narrowminded all u want, kid, just don’t call me collect. And I never knew u had the “crown when it comes to being the most insulting person on BBB”, I must’ve missed this swearing-in ceremony. I personally don’t care for that moniker, I think I’ll let u carry the crown with honor pride, just let me know if it gets too heavy for you π Now, if u would take your head out of your feline anus for more than 5 seconds, u would notice I said there were stupid reasons from both sides of the fence, including my own. I also can’t understand alot of things people do, and most of the time I stay shut and tolerate it. But last time I checked, this thread specifically asked for questions and comments about vegeterians. So that opened the door for my ‘rant’. You call it arrogance, I call it confidence in my position. You could disagree with me until the cows come home, I still sleep good at night. I can’t fathom why someone would choose to not eat meat, but I tolerate it, just don’t try to debate me on it, cuz u’ll never come up with a good reason. It’s all personal choices, that’s what it comes down too. I would prefer that a vegan simply just tell me “it’s just my personal choice”, and not try to rationalize and justify it or preach to me the virtues of his diet. And as for gossipingrae’s post where he mentions that his grandpa married a lady who wouldn’t even let him cook meat in the house. Whoa, that is a recipe for divorce if u ask me π

MemberAh yes, thanks for reminding me, I forgot the other stupid excuse of “i’m saving animals by not eating meat” Well what about saving plants? When did u vegeterians flip a coin and decide animals are more important and need saving. Even animals eat meat, heck some will even eat humans if given the chance. I’m not saying let’s start saving plants, I eat both meat and veggies. I’m just saying come back with a better excuse, one that actually makes sense for a change. I actually know somebody who doesn’t pick an apple off a tree cuz he doesn’t wanna ‘hurt’ the tree. But he’ll eat an apple bought from a fruit stand because “the damage is already done.” I can always count on him for comic relief π But to be totally fair, I also know quite a few people who admit taking great pleasure in eating meat because of some bad experience they’ve had with an animal earlier in their life. I know this one guy, he used to be a bullfighter back in south america. He was attacked by a bull once, he tells me he makes sure his wife prepares him a nice bloody juicy steak every so often. Kinda morbid if u ask me, but I guess stupid excuses run on both side of the fences. I’ve been biting by dogs on several occasions, scratched by many cats. Maybe I need to eat at an asian restaurant and get some revenge π I’ve also fallen from from a tree and landed in a thorny bush, so I probably need to eat more berries and lettuce or something. But nah, I think I’ll just keep eating everything on my plate, and use all my teeth they way they are supposed to be used. chomp chomp π

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by HuRRiCaNe22491I’m a vegetarian, but not because I choose to be. I just can’t seem to swallow it. I have no idea why.
Get a better chef. I can’t understand for the life of me why someone would ‘choose’ to not eat meat. No offense to any vegetarians but every reason I’ve ever heard is just plain stupid. I’ve heard everything from “i wouldn’t eat anything that had a face” to “cuz I saw a chicken get killed when I was small” And I can’t believe anybody who says they don’t like the taste of meat, sorry I just can’t, it’s only natural to eat meat. It goes back to days of cave people. U think some starving caveman is gonna become a picky little b*tch and not want to eat the buffalo the tribe just killed, please, gimme a break. You see those front teeth u have, they are for tearing into meat, not just for biting an apple. Let’s see what other dumb excuse have I heard, oh yes there’s the “animals are dirty creatures”, once again, get a better chef who knows how to properly cook food and use preservatives. I’m eating the cow, not the sh*t she’s been walking around in all day, sherlock. And last time I checked, many plants are picked out of the ground, the freakin ground, the ground that many people and other animals walk and urinate on, don’t see any of u vegans complaining of ‘dirty plants’ do ya. Let’s see what else, well there are the bible thumpers and they have their religous reasons. Let’s just say I’m an atheist, so those godly reasons mean nothing to me. But to speculate for a moment, I’d hate to be the person who led a good wholesome life but would not be allowed into the ‘pearly gates’ because he ate too much pork. How retarded does that sound. Just eat the freakin t-bone steak and don’t worry about who’s slaughtering the cow, for the love of jesus crispy chicken deluxe π Somehow I think if plants had mouths and you could hear them scream, and see them suffering, vegetarians would just drink water all day. But since people are creative, I’m sure I will here new and improved excuses forever, so keep eating your tofu and your bean burgers, that’s more meat for me π

MemberTry setting the “Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser” option. Hopefully that should make it use firefox when checking your yahoo mail. It’s in the General Options screen. But keep in mind IE might try to take control and become the default browser next time u load up IE, so you’ll probably have to do just the opposite in IE. As for the yahoo companion, I remember seeing the option to install the yahoo toolbar when I was installing macromedia shockwave player, they’re bundled together I guess. Hope that helps.

MemberI never meant this too be a male-female issue. It was more an issue of an 85 year old person, period. If the joke said it was a 30 something yr old woman sticking her hands down the dude’s pants, then ok, I get it. But when it mentioned 85, sexuality was the last thing on my mind. I’m as much a perv as the next guy, just ask my girlfriend lol, but the thought of an 85 yr old grandma or grandpa doing something perverted actually grosses me out.

MemberTiger Blade’s version made a hell of alot more sense to me. Now I understand that the ‘correct guesser’ already knew the age ahead of time, and was just trying to ‘cop a feel’. In detn8r’s version, I was like, ‘what the hell does an 85 yr old woman care to put her hands down a man’s pants? And then when she says she was on line at mcdonalds I was like “okay? do did she smell his fart and can tell he just had a big mac, I don’t get it.” When it’s an 85 year old hag, it’s hard to come up with the sexual reference. Just my 2 cents.
