Operator error! The hide contacts function moved. Once I found it, I was able to show the contacts.
rwwoodsMemberYahoo Mesenger should be listed in the Add/Delete program list. If for some reason it is not there, I recommend that you try to install the latest version to see if will register in the list. If so, then use Add/Delete to uninstall the program.
If that doesn’t work, you will have to delete the complete Mesenger folder found under Program Files/Yahoo. Then run a register cleaner such as CCleaner to clean up the registry entries.
July 24, 2008 at 12:49 pm in reply to: Yahoo MSGR on my new laptop stops receiving IM’s after a few minutes, please help!!!! #168004rwwoodsMemberThe problem may be the router. Some routers require opening certain ports fto enable inbound traffic for chat, phone and cam. Check the support site for your router for how to make these settings.
rwwoodsMemberMost likely, you have one of two possible problems.
1) Messenger is corrupted: Fix it by deleting the program using Add/Delete Programs in Control Panel then download and reinstall a new version with all other windows applications closed.2) One of the other applications you have open is corrupted or doesn’t like working with Messenger. By process of elimination, see if you can find out which one may be causing the problem. If you find it, delete and reinstall the program then make sure all updates are downloaded. If you have identified the offending application and reinstalling doesn’t fix it, send a complaint to the manufacturer. They might have a fix.
rwwoodsMemberIf the room you are attempting to reach is not full, you will be correctly connected; otherwise, it appears that you will be connected to the lowest number room that is not full. Strange.
rwwoodsMemberSo how does one learn the room IDs????
rwwoodsMemberNote that syware programs will not detect a malware program that is currently running. The only way to detect it is to run a scan while in safe mode.
rwwoodsMemberYou discovered one of the major problems of virus and spam detection sw. Some programs are more aggressive than others and will provide false results – i.e., flagging a benign, required file as being infected. Never delete a file until you verify that it is not a required file. If in doubt, Google the file name.
rwwoodsMemberThere does appear to be a problem.
rwwoodsMemberA quick way of checking to see if the cam is real – ask them to wave.
March 7, 2007 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Please HELP! Computer restarts with Yahoo open. No viruses, No spyware #158590rwwoodsMemberI have two suggestions:
1. Search Microsoft’s Knowledge Base to see if you can find a solution. You can find that database listed under Support at microsoft.com
2. Messenger may be using Internet Explorer. Are you running IE7? It may have been automatically updated. A lot of people are reporting problems with IE7. Before reverting back to IE6 by uninstalling IE7, download another browser to be used as a backup in case the uninstall has problems.

Try disabling your firewall temporarily and see if the problem goes away. If so, you will need to find out how to reconfigure the firewall.
rwwoodsMemberUpdate: The problem appears to be the router. A significant improvement was made by turing off PnP in the router, but the problem still exists. The good news is that I can resolve the problem by resetting the router, but I have to do that each time after I power on the pc. Strange. I can’t imagine what has changed with Yahoo messenger to cause this problem.
rwwoodsMemberUpdate: My problems have returned, but I now know the cause – I just don’t know the solution. My LAN is freezing. The only equipment on the LAN is the pc and the router. At one point, the LAN stopped communicating for 30 sec every minute. I checked the Dlink site and they listed some switch settings in the router for Messinger to communicate better. Things are better now, but not completly fixed. I find it interesting that in previous versions of Messinger, it was not necessary to make special settings in the router. That no longer appears to be the case. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
rwwoodsMemberI resolved all of the problems I listed by uninstalling Messinger, deleting left over files, cleaning the register then reinstalling Messinger. Obviously, at least one file was corrupted. Thanks for your advice since it lead me to believe the problems I described was mine alone. Yahoo Messigner does have its problems, but this was not one of them.
