KeymasterJust filter the usernames. Filtering words is no use. The hacker will just keep changing, to beat you.

MemberI use a ahrdware firewall as a well as a software one. Nobody can boot me apart from PM bombing.

MemberActually if you are hit with a server-side boot, nothing will protect you.

MemberFirewalls don’t protect from booting. Well, it protects (in theory) from being booted from voice if you don’t allow udp connections on port 5000 (or whatever the port for vc is). If you dont’ allow UDP, it uses TCP which supposedly isn’t bootable. However, that is besides the point, hardware and software firewalls don’t help because the problem isn’t technically a network problem, it happens to be a flaw in Yahoo. Booters mostly (all except server side) try to cause your Yahoo to have a Buffer Overflow by sending lots of PM bombs, file transfer requests, Pm’s that request voice and/or buzzing, and so on and so forth. Those cause your Yahoo program to fill up it’s alloted amount of memory fairly quickly and thus causes the program to crash. So firewalls won’t help. You would be best using a chat client like Ymlite or Yahelite, or one of the many others that are out there. Hope this helps you guys out. Oh, and btw, the server side boots are rare (in fact, i’ve never run into them and I go in and out of the booter rooms and fight rooms and have yet to run into one or at least one that works). Not only that, but Ymlite and yahelite (and many others I’m sure) provide the option to use the YCHT protocol, which is a pretty stable protocol, so you won’t find many server side boots that work on it… if you do at all. You really have to be looking for someone who has one to actually be able to find one. Well, hope this clears some things up for you guys.

MemberIm sorry to say but for over 3 years nothing I found 100% stoped boots other than when y-tunnel came out with a new version it would stop old boots , the only way to be non booted is to stay out of chatrooms or stay of messenger

Memberokay all this my first post.. so bare with me please.. over the years i have found nothing really to stop the booting but have founds ways to slow it down and stay connected.. first off YTUNNEL pro does a pretty good job and stops most older booter prog. YMlite and Yelite work well also.. now you have 1 them programs.. if you look on your yahoo messenger in prefrences you will see massages.. check the boxs that says open masseges in a single box.. that will stop the floods of ims and keep them in a single im window.. also check the boxs receive im’s from friends only or sumtin like that.. if you are playing in yahoo games.. went you enter the game room click the options tab and check the box ims from friends only.. these steps i have found to work pretty good..

MemberJeff wrote:Booting is a problem, especially for teenage kids with nothing better to do than mess with people. You can get booted out of the Yahoo chat rooms, but you can also get booted out of Yahoo PMs.How does this work? Well, Yahoo Messenger allows some HTML code. That’s what makes the colors, faders and other special tricks work. Unfortunately, it’s also what lets deviants use to boot you. They can put in the right HTML code and cause your Yahoo Messenger to crash.
Fortunately, there is an antidote. Open the filter1.txt file with Notepad. You’ll find it in the Yahoo folder (usually C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger).
Add these words to the filter1.txt file:
<snd,<alt, <url=, <font, <fade, <a, , <body, <iframe, <frame, src=, <img, , url(, onLoad=, http://, www, <embedThat should keep you safe from booters.
What’s the downside? Well, you’ll now see font size, fade codes, etc. in the messages (if someone is using them). But you won’t get booted.

BigBlueBall.comthough there are lots of chat clients and filters out there that will help in preventing you from being booted, nothing is un-bootable, i dont care who you are, or what you run, there is always something out there that can hit you, the best protection that i have found is to run a chat client, and use “ychat” disable your p.m.’s or only allow your friends to p.m. you, but if the booter is serious about it, and they know what they are doing they can still hit you.

MemberCHAT2 (DHTML) – This is one of Yahoo!’s chat protocals.
The thing is inorder to not be booted 90% of the time, you need to be on that protocal or YCHT (another protocal). But when your on Yahoo Messenger you are automatically on the YMSG12 Protocal.
If your like me you don’t like to mess with YTunnel or Chat Clients. So what you would need to do inorder to be on Chat2 but still on messenger is switch your settings to firewall.
What I mean by this is – got to your Messenger, select
LOGIN | Preferences | Connection. Then simply tick
“Firewall with no proxies”. Hit OK and log back in.Now… like any method of antibooting, there is a drawback, you can’t expect to get all of Yahoo!’s features and still not be booted.
The drawback is that you cannot have Voice or Webcam. Sorry.
Also, there will be some lag if you are on a slower (Dial-up) connection; your window might stop displaying the chatroom text, or you may have to log in and out of your messenger a few times to get a room list or enter a room. BUT!! you usually (90%) wont get booted. There IS a method to get voice using a Vox, and logging it in through YCHT, but YOU have to do some work tooo! 😛 So I will let you find that out on your own. Thats the only way to learn.
Now… if you do as i showed you and you Preferences and do the following, you will help yourself further to not be booted:
-Messeges: Min. the Msg’s to the Taskbar
-Show the msg’s at the bottom right of the screen
-Msg’s are show in a single IM box.
– Untick enable IM inv.-File Transfer: Never Accept files from anyone and Never allow other to download from me
-Chat: Ignore Chat Invitations
-If you like and you think it might help, go ahead and Use Jeff and Dave’s word filters and set your word filter to STRONG.-Privacy: Ignore anyone who is not on my Friends List (you wont get PM’s from people whom you dont have added)
That’s it, i was reluctant to post this at first but, i know this will help alot of you, and what tha hell… Have fun, and its only chat. 🙂 later

MemberThe new messenger 6.0 and up no longer uses filter1.txt, the file it uses is filter1.enc. It is an encoded filter file.
I’m actually still trying to figure out a way to edit this, and I know there is a way, but can’t remember where I saw the program that allows you to do this.
Keep in mind that NO ONE is unbootable. But there are some methods that make you 90-99% unbootable.

MemberWhy in the world did Yahoo! decide to encode the filter?
“Hey, I got a great idea! On the new Messenger, we should encode the filter so that people can’t put in boot codes to help stop from getting booted!”
other Yahoo! admin: “Genius!”

Netti…filter1.enc…can be edited through the note pad…same as filter1.txt for earlier version and you can edit it.
