ParticipantWhat booters use the chatscreen to boot anymore?
Yahoo Monitors chatroom traffic a lot better now then it did, old chatroom scrollers and codes have been patched a long time ago.
i would be more worried about these send buddylist and send contact details options.
I reckon Yahoo! should add the option to put anybody who pm’s first with a link auto into the spamguard listing.
There should be a limiter to how many “PM” forms can be opened at one given time (stop pm floods)
Better detection of conf invites/add friends etc from a single ip to your Yahoo! id.
Yahoo Should be disconnecting the Sender of the malicious amount of packets from a gang of booter bots…not the reciever and stop all packets from said id’s immediately for say a 15 min ban like irc.

That’s probably the number 1 thing they need to put in…they should have it so you can set the limit…say 15 IM boxes open at a time. Anymore will be rejected before even opening up to prevent freezing. That’d probably fix a lot of problems since booters usually always use login bots that simply send IM’s with certain codes over and over to lag then crash Messenger.

MemberOk guys a friend of mine has told me of some preferance settings that can take getting booted down to a very low chance. I have not gotten booted much at all with these settings, so i think it i should post the settings here.
1. set your ignore list to ignore anyone not on my buddy list
2. set file transfers to never let anyone ask for files, and never send anyone files. msn has a pretty good file transfer system 😉 you can use that instead if you like.
3.Under chat in prefs check ignore chat invites, instead you call allways use the /follow command to get to a room your buddy is in 😀
4.and if you are afraid of getting booted by somone mass emailing you , that makes the email notifcation boot you, you can turn off email alerts.

Yeah but then you see I feel like that detracts the whole experience of IMing and meeting new people, lol. I still suggest the login using firewall with no proxies option if someone starts booting you…then they can’t (most of the time) and after a little while log back in normally (no proxies option).

ParticipantThe reason thhat dont work mindfray is the fact even if you have them off yahoo messenger is still reciving packets.
Most boot programs these days will attack messenger with malformed packets that yahoo will recive but not recognize.
If enough of these malformed packets are sent yahoo messenger gets “overloaded” and you either get disconnected from remote side or your messenger fails and your get a ypager error.
Now the only wat to stop traffic getting to your pc serverside is your actual yahoo ignore list…however yahoo only allows every user to have the maximum of 99 ignored this way ( shows yah employee’s dont chat much…lol ) and 99 gets used up very quickly.
The major issue at the moment with packets is the Conference Decline packets that can be sent like say Jonny_wild and jonny_wild+ and jonny_wild+++ evern tho these ids have a + at end they are all gonna go to jonny_wild and this lets the user bombing the other person to send multiple versions with the +++ added each time and yahoo disconnects you instead of the sender…silly logic but thats how it goes.

ParticipantFirst off, Welcome to BBB.
To avoid being booted you could try reading some of the post on this thread. BBB does not support booting others so we can not help you out in doing that. You can stop some of the IM flooding by going to Preferences and under Ignore List use the “Ignore anyone who is not my Messenger List.” Hope that helps some.

Although that is an excellent suggestion that still wont stop server side disconnect style boots.
Even when you ignore anyone other than those on your buddy list, packets are still recieved… What a usefull ignore option huh?

So so true, but it doesn’t hurt to try…..It does stop at least some…..And i know it is completely impossible to stop ALL types of booting, but at least it helps to avoid some. I wouldn’t know the most recent types of booting since i myself haven’t been booted, but i would think it helps a bit.
And at least that ignore option helps a bit…..I avoid having to read messages from stalkers saying, “i still remember you”…..creepy, i know.

MemberYou can also do the simple process of logging in using the “firewall with no proxies” option…no this does not stop all boots yet again but it helps even more. It’s good for if someone is continuously doing it. Then when they finally stop or a day later you should log back in normally. For more info, such as pictures and all of that you should visit my small tutorial on how to stop booters
http://elitenick.com/index.php?page=yahoobootingexplained
Also, booting them back does nothing but cause more problems…it just starts a stupid booter war, where sometimes the people who booted you have a dumb little booter group that thinks they are elite. But anyway, yeah, good luck man.

MemberWyzzardUSA wrote:YmLite is a decent program, I suppose, but does require some adjusting before one is “boot-proof” .A program that runs well “out of the box” is YahElite, found at http://yahelite.org As with the other chat clients, to foil booters, YahElite must be used in the ‘YCHT’ protocol.
YahElite may not be as simple as some of the other clients, but if you take a bit of time to explore it’s functions, I believe you’ll be pleased by it’s configurability. ( And if it were a pay program, you can be sure I’d be asking David for royalties for all the plugs I’ve given him over the years. 😉 )
Actually you can use yahelite in YMSG & not get booted by restricting PM’s to friends only.
This also allows you to PM people without the problems which occur using YCHT.
You must ensure that you set the prefs to allow messages from friends only…also make sure that “popup a PM box on incoming messages is unchecked”…place a tick in the box that says “put all rejected PM’s in the reject bar”
This makes yahelite unbootable at present.
To take care of voice laggs simply download VCGUARD from here http://www.shinkaiho.com/vcguard/ & follow its installation instructions to become imune to voice laggs in rooms.<–*NOTE* ONLY WORKS WITH YAHELITE & DOES NOT SUPPORT ANY OTHER CHAT CLIENTS AS YET!!
You will then be TOTALLY UNBOOTABLE from yahoo chat.
following these instructions will give you the full functionality of yahoo messenger without the idiots of yahoo affecting you.
if you have any problems you can Im me on yahoo under the id leprechaun ( i suggest you post a message to me in the chat room first )July 26, 2005 at 6:12 am #102235Dermot
ParticipantThe worst thing about Messenger i find is the fact even if you have pm’s off the “clone” packet still gets thru and yahoo have still not patched it.
I have set up certain INI config files for YahELite for newbies to use to auto setup most inportant settings on YahELite for them and also uploaded 3 levels of Wildcard for YahELite that can track porn/booter bots.
Get them here .. http://shadow-corp.net/Yahelite.php
True the disconnect packets are still recieved but the majorityof them nowdays dont work too well unless there is a lot of bots sending them. Plus your connection type plays a big role in it too as dialup would be easy to disconnect as cable/dsl is much harder.
Yahoo! really need set up a rule to disconnect sender not reciever and let people pick by preferences how many pm windows can only be open at once in Messenger.

ParticipantThere is a range off boot codes attacking people lately using an exploit on yahoo’s part in pm’s.
Pm’s been sent to ids with an added ++ to the end of them are been opened in Y! Messenger and every pm recieved opens up a new pm windows instead of in same one resulting in mass pm bombing.
there is an option in Messenger preferences under Messages (shows messages in a single window) if this option is ticked it will stop pm’s flooding up your screen eating your memory and crashing yahoo! messenger.
