Thanks for confirming that it is a bug chaps…I reported it as such just a few moments ago…whether they’ll fix it in the next bulid remains to be seen…we can hope!
Cheers…Colin
colin1951ukParticipantZan…I don’t know if it’s just me but after using your patch I can’t load any of the ImVironments…has anybody else noticed this?
Cheers…Colin
colin1951ukParticipantI see what you mean Dermot…I checked it out with one of my buddies and it works fine…but chatrooms is a problem.
I said in my original post that I wasn’t well aquainted with Yahoo protocols so I assume this YMSG 15 is to do with the 8x builds and isn’t backwards compatible…am I close?
Although I never liked the 7.5 builds would using that get me out of woods???…I seem to remember that 7.5 was a kind of beta for 8x so maybe it’ll work on similar protocol levels. Would I be on the right track here?
Cheers.

colin1951ukParticipantWell security doesn’t worry me so much as I use YTK Pro which’ll kill most things…in any case if 7 will work I can take the patched dll’s from 8.1 and use those to replace the older ones within 7…it should work ok.
If nobody knows the answer to this I’m gonna try 7 anyway and see how I get on…hopefully it’ll work barring the odd smiley which I couldn’t care less about.
If anybodies interested I’ll post back the results later.

If you do a clean install of 249 you won’t see anymore temp files…been using it for nearly two days now and it’s as clean as a whistle.
Give it a try.
Cheers.

I think you’re seeing something different to the tripe that was being written into my Yahoo! Messenger Folder every time I used build 244.
I was getting loads of TMP.tmp type files appearing and on deleting them after each Messenger session more would be written the next time around…a never endind circle of useless .tmp files.
I don’t think that’s you’re experience with build 249 is it??…I’m certainly not seeing it now.
Maybe you’re refering to the setup temp file that gets created on your drive…can’t remember its name for the moment…something like YServer???…but that’s a one off file and it’s not in the main Yahoo! folder…you can just delete it and forget about it…totaly different to the garbage I and some others on here were seeing.
The TMP.tmp stuff was definitely a bug…or very bad coding, whatever you want to call it…I think what you see is just a part of the installation process.
Cheers.

If you’ve installed this build has the Temp File writing bug that was discussed in another thread on here been fixed???
If it hasn’t I won’t even download this one.
Cheers.

colin1951ukParticipantI don’t use plugins either so I think we can discount them.
Well as I’m happy to see it’s not just me who’e seeing this strange phenomena (good word eh 😀 ) I’ve sent a bug report to Yahoo! Support.
I don’t expect an answer…but maybe we’ll see a new build shortly fixing the problem…whilst introducing a couple more I expect 😉
Cheers.

colin1951ukParticipantHello Dermot,
I did initialy upgrade from Messengers prompt to do so (the upgrade alerter) and after noticing the problem I uninstalled everything and deleted the relevant registry entries (and yes I do know my way around that area) and then reinstalled with the standalone .exe as you mentioned. But that didn’t fix anything and the Temp files kept being written.
I’ve given up on 244 now and gone back to the previous 239 build which is working perfectly normaly for me.
I’ve got another drive here and I put 244 on that one and it did the same thing so god knows whats causing it…I’m surprised no one else is having the problem which tends to suggest that both my drives contain something that build 244 doesn’t like…but just what is beyond me.
I’ll wait for a future build to be released before moving up from 239 and see what happens then.
Cheers.

colin1951ukParticipantOk Chaps,
Well as I’ve never used any of the programmes mentioned I think the thing to do is try YTK Lite as it’s free and see what I think..and upgrade from there if I find the whole package usefull.
I see YTK has a forum so I can always pop in there for help if the whole thing is too much for my ageing brain cells to handle 😀
Thanks for the help.
Colin
colin1951ukParticipantOk..I just tried it again now and it’s back to normal…looks as though it’s been down for the whole morning from my point of view…anyway normal service has resumed.
Cheers.

September 27, 2006 at 8:39 am in reply to: Re:Current and Previous Versions of Yahoo! Messenger #152780colin1951ukParticipantOk fellas later today my time I’m going to reinstall the final build of 5.5 the .exe of which I’ve kept on a spare drive here because I liked it so much.
Then I’ll give it a good try out with one of my buddies who has one of the 8x builds and see how things work out.
I remember it used to work webcam/voice/filesharing wise with the 6x + 7.0x builds but from 7.5 (which is when I made the jump up) and on I’m not so sure. I think 8x may be out of the question because of the MSN compatibility..but we’ll see.
I’ll let you know what happens a bit later in the week.
Cheers.
