MemberHi ~ I do apologize for my lack of attention to BBB and not being a very good member. The suggestion of sending this poll out in an email was a great idea. I might have missed it otherwise. Got so busy helping users elsewhere with some of Yahoo’s other products, as well as a couple other socialization websites. I get too curious for my own good sometimes and check out stuff, like MySpace, Multiply, 360 etc, and helped where I could with them. Which is the way I voted, to possibly add a bit more socialization help.
I do realize that to keep control of BBB and not have it get chaotic, you will have to limit or watch what you offer help in, unless you offer a link to a BBB2 site for some of the other things you offered in your poll and keep this one as it was intended, depending upon which way you chose to go with the results.
I did wonder if the reason that there are so many members that haven’t posted or posted very little is maybe they need help in other ways, rather than mostly IM issues ??
Thanks for the email.

MemberUpdate. My friend finally did get an answer to his dilemma. And you are right miGs. Yahoo messenger and Vista are not compatible at this time.
It wasn’t Yahoo that answered him, or even Microsoft. It was a high school student that was able to hook up a gadget of some sort to his computer to figure it out. She also said that he didn’t get an answer from Yahoo or Microsoft because neither one knew it. She basically told him that he (and other vista/yahoo messy users) will have to wait until the two of those ‘giants’ join forces to solve the problem.
So he has gone back to XP and is happy he can now chat ‘with sound’ when with his friends/family.
Thank you Dermot and miGs for your feedback and valuable help. Helped him get things figured out.

MemberToo cool. Had to go and try this lol.
I had added an alias to my messy so that I could put in a IM what info I wanted to keep (URLs) so it would stay in my archives, but never thought about IMing the same ID.
Learned something new today. Not sure I would use this in future (cuz of the double msg), but is neat to know.
Thanks

MemberSorry I didn’t help much leviss03. I had gone to a web site that I trust and actually had gone back down to vers 6 for a while, before upgrading to vers 7, then vers 7.5. So far so good for me.
I just have other issues with Yahoo, IE7 and the numerous coffee breaks I’m experiencing (thru messy and the browser when trying to load up a yahoo product) Haven’t been told nobody is getting my messages otherwise. hmmmm

MemberI can’t offer you a solution to your dilemma. But it does seem like Y!IM vers 8 and XP do definitely clash for some users, if not all.
The only thing I’ve offered users in the past, as a reprieve from their dilemma is to completely uninstall version 8 and downgrade. Even I had to. Figures I’ll wait until I don’t see postings about “my friends don’t see my typing” anymore.
Sorry, but not tech savvy enough to help you keep vers 8 otherwise.

MemberJust to give you an update Dermot …
My friend said he checked the site but it doesn’t list any sound cards that would be compatible with Vista. I can only assume because Vista is fairly new.
It has been suggested by another user that it is the YACS DLL. Something about the audio compression, which is something I am not very familiar with at all.
But shall I keep you posted ?? For your info and anybody else with this problem ??

MemberWhat version messenger are you using ??
Sounds like you are using the stealth feature. Question – do you right click this contact>>see me as online, then hit online or available in your status itself??
Also, the problem with the one contact not seeing you, while everybody else can, maybe the problem is at their end and not yours with this? Do they have a problem with anybody else on their end?
You can sign into one ID on messenger, sign out then sign in under a different account, will be the same messenger. Just the preferences will be different for each account.
I would also say that people could know your messenger ID, but unless they know your password and can sign into your account, they should be able to see your messages etc.
I apologize for all the questions. My limited knowledge but am learning as I go too. Some problems I have been lucky enough to not encounter.
Anyone else with a solution ??

MemberWhen I had version 7, I would get this message every so often also. Would last anywhere from 1/2 hour to a couple hours. Even the odd time on ver 6 and 7.5
I had thought it was the yahoo side that was causing the problem, but now am wondering if it was just a bad time with my ISP that caused the delay and yahoo has it that only a certain length of time is alloted to getting into a chat room per request.
Does your friend have a specific time frame that she tries to get into chat? I mean, in the evenings between 6 and 10 type thing.
Am curious about this. And I apologize for not giving you a specific answer regarding this but might be.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable could answer this, but happened to miss this post ??

MemberFrom everything I’ve read in another place (sorry) there does seem to be a glitch where a 360 remains even after an account has been deleted and supposedly yahoo is trying to fix this.
But in response to original post, I have deleted a 360 “friend”, but they did remain on my messenger. And one instance where I had deleted off my messenger, but they stayed on my 360 until I removed them from there also.
Just don’t remember if I was on version 6 or 7 at the time.

MemberOne thing I had suggested to a few people around yahoo is to “forward” anything they wanted to transfer over to the new account BEFORE deleting. I have an account for saving those emails specifically. Just take the fwd out of the subject line, and the headers too if you wish before “sending” and still looks good on the other side. At least it works for me.

MemberOn freecreed’s site, he says that yahoo no longer supports voice in a PM with 5.6 and older versions of messenger. Not sure how that relates if one goes into a chat room.
I haven’t seen anywhere that says they don’t work at all, otherwise.

MemberVery true about conference rooms, unless people you invite, in turn invite people you don’t know.
If you hear of any good chat rooms, let me know please ?? lol
Thanks

MemberThe only good yahoo chat room where one doesn’t run into a lot of hassles and fights of one kind or another is a “conference” room with invited friends. Usually anybody that the person has invited in can invite in more. But hopefully everybody has the same goal in mind – a friendly, peaceful, have fun kind of room lol

MemberThank you Dermot. I have let him know what you suggested (via sending him the URL of this thread) Hopefully he’ll let us know how he made out.
Thanks again.
Says he just checked the site and had no luck. Would another sound card help (watching what he gets of course) or is he up a creek ?? lol
Thanks for helping guys.

MemberWhile I haven’t gone near version 8 yet, I would be concerned that some remnants of the beta 8 would take over things on the finished 8 and you would still have problems with it. I don’t know for sure.
But did want to say that you shouldn’t lose any of your contacts. From what I understand, they are on the yahoo side and not on your computer.
