Why don’t just install BigBlueBall search plugins?
The files in the ….Yahoo!MessengerStoredIM are the offline message files,
not the message archive files. The message archive files are stored in folder
….Yahoo!Messengerprofilesyahoo_idArchivesMessages
You have to login to Yahoo Messenger to read the offline message files.
You cant view them with any other applications, but you can read the archive files using this programhttp://www.andy.w2s.co.uk/yahoo/Dev/XORmessageTest.exe
Just dont associate the message archive extension (.dat)!

Actually you can set your status to idle by modifying [again] the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareYahooPagerprofilesyour_yahoo_idCustom Msgs) or using Andy_w2s‘ YStatusFX.

I think what sammow14 means is Yahoo! Messenger Explorer Bar on the left side of the Internet Explorer.
To remove that, open the Registry Editor (oh no not the regedit again!) and then delete the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{4528BBE0-4E08-11D5-AD55-00010333D0AD}Before you mess with the registry, please read this thread: how do i remove my status ?
If you’re still afraid to modify the registry or too lazy :p you can download this simple VBScript to remove the Yahoo! Messenger Explorer Bar at http://artificial.imbecile.cjb.net/yexpbaruninst.vbs
