I’d say Slackware might be best for slow machines, but it takes a lot of work if you don’t know Linux very well. The fact of the matter is, any linux distro will run on pretty much any processor, depending on how you do the installation. It’d be nice if some distro’s would actually have optimized installs for old PCs. But just read up on what to install and what not to install for slower computers and you should be fine.
If you paid for the previous version you can get this one for free. If you didn’t buy it then you’re talking about illegal software and nobody on this forum is going to tell you how to use it. Try one of the other free programs if you don’t want to shell out the whopping 5 bucks for quality software… aimutation, middle_man, etc… but from what I can tell, DeadAIM is the only one that fully supports 5.5.
You could back up HKey_Users, , Software, America Online, AOL INstant Messenger, Current Version, Users,
but since you uninstalled, you’ll have to do a system restore to before you uninstalled.
When backing it up, I won’t be able to import it into an older client though with the standard ICQ save contact list.
So one question… I know the main purpose of this, but can you also see if people are online if they have “only accept messages from people on my buddy list” selected? I’m not sure if you can check people’s profiles if they have that checked, but I’m thinking you can.
Last time I tried m_m with linking it didn’t work. At all. It also didn’t show the invisibility button or anything, but I THOUGHT they’d worked that out.
