MemberThat was probably because you were using ad removal in Aimutation, or that this one is made for the newest version of AIM.

MemberDude, whyd you start two topics? Check the other one you made, I replied there.

MemberHere’s the thing… I don’t know how you’re going to do this, but… one of my friends works for a popular computer company that I won’t divulge for his job security. They block everything you could imagine, but he’s gotten the aim program from a cd, installed it, and set it up to use the AOL denmark server. I don’t know how exactly you’re going to find the info for that, but I know it works for him.

MemberAre you sure you were in true standby and not just hard disk spin down?

MemberHaha. Yeah good idea Busy…
You should add NOD 32 to the list of virus scanners, it got the best results for heuristic scanning.
from the website:
NOD32 – Product Awards
NOD32’s detection efficiency combined with 2-50 times faster hard disk scanning rate earned the product many international prestigious awards. NOD32 is the world leader of the Virus Bulletin 100% Awards having won more awards (23) than any competing product. Since its first submission for testing in May 1998, NOD32 was the only tested product that has never missed a single In the Wild virus. NOD32 has been selected as the “Antivirus program of 2001” by Australian PC User magazine, “Best Buy, Best Performance, Best Value” by the independent UK Consumer’s Association. For selected list of awards, please, click here.So this is arguably the best in the world… but its all a matter of what your needs are.

MemberUnfortunately, you can’t run DirectX inside VMWare. Else I’d be Linux all the way

Memberyes, that thing is a mes. I have never personally gotten it but at the ISP I worked for we got a few people with it. We ended up writing our own batch file that would clean it all up.
But yes, be sure to ask people what the program you’re getting is, and then check the info in properties to make sure. And DEFINITELY have a firewall (in case it tries to send out info) and a virus scanner (for obvious reasons)

MemberYeah, when you’re describing something that you know, you learn a lot FROM describing it. Interesting how it works.

MemberDude, incredible post. And it seems there’s more to come.
This is valid for people who might not be using aim as well, just anyone making a password for anything.
I’ve always used ridiculous answers to the questions for password recovery, for example, (this is not what I actually use, I’m not dumb) “What is your mother’s maiden name?” Answer: ILikeCookies. Sorry that’s lame, but good example.panickedthumb
MemberOK here’s my 2 cents. As long as AOL doesn’t have rules against it, he has the right to do whatever he wants… but with something like this, it’s not like a gaming account or a diablo II character that people have put time into, its three freaking letters. Why not just give away the screen names if you aren’t using them? You didn’t pay a dime for them, and Daniel Damien Rutherford, or Dennis Deacon Rudolph can have a screen name with his initials. Or whatever they want to use them for. I do, however, think that when you get right down to it, the screen names are probably the property of AOL, but I’m not sure about that, I’d love some info if anyone has it.
Anyway, I don’t think people who sell screen names are stupid. On the contrary, they’re very smart, because they know there are some stupid people who will buy them from them.

MemberI’d think you’d have to use a resource editor for this one, do a search around the boards for resource editing or hex editing, I’ve only done it a couple times so I’m not going to try to tell you how to go about it and end up screwing you up somehow.

Memberyou could do an alt+print screen, paste it into mspaint, crop it down to just the icon, save as whatever.gif, and there’s your shiny new icon.
panickedthumb
MemberThat’s really bizarre and doesn’t seem like it would make any difference at all… but good job getting it working 🙂
panickedthumb
MemberYeah that rocks, if anyone ever gets that to work, let us know 🙂
