MemberThe rumor is that Jim Davis works with/for AOL but he’s never denied or confirmed it.

Memberoh, and to answer your question, I can’t seem to find goodaim anywhere, but I’m not exactly an expert in the field of finding aim programs *L*
panickedthumb
MemberAIMutation, as far as I know, still isn’t compatible with 5.5, so that part of your question is somewhat useless… Honestly, the 5 bucks is worth it for DeadAIM now that the new version is out (finally).

MemberYeah… I thought one of the deals with AOL’s merger with TW is that they had to open up the protocol specification… hmm… maybe they just mean they had to open TOC? I dunno. I think AOL is pure evil. Well maybe not evil but not very nice either. THey were the downfall of ICQ, I THOUGHT that with Winamp3 they were going to be Winamp’s downfall… lets hope that Time Warner doesn’t start making bad movies now because of it *L*

Membershizna, not many people will know how to set up ftp like that.

MemberHowever…
Does Gaim support file transfer?
Somewhat, yeah. Yahoo! supports sending and receiving files in Gaim 0.75 and higher. Although, as of 0.75 you can only send files less than 1MB. AIM (using OSCAR) supports receiving files pretty well. Sending files over AIM occasionally works, but it’s slightly buggy. Jabber supports receiving files.
Most of the protocols themselves support file transfer, but Gaim has not been written to support it yet. If you would like file transfer to work better or be more complete, get CVS and submit a patch using the generic file transfer API.
so maybe there’s hope, they seem to be close.

Memberonly problem with that is big files that the email server will block. I have no problem with using email at all, but a lot of people I talk to are idiots unfortunately and don’t know how to send a friggin file over the net *L*
If they have file transfer fixed anytime soon, I’ll be a convert, and everyone will hear about it and hopefully be converted as well.

MemberCongrats 🙂 but my question is, how are you doing file transfer? As it says in your profile, your client is gaim, and it doesn’t exactly like file transfers does it?
I’ve said before, I ADORE gaim, but I have to keep aim for the file transfer.

MemberCome on now, don’t make this another Otsego rant
panickedthumb
MemberAre you using gaim? some of my friends were and their away messages kept giving me that error too. I haven’t seen it in regular aim. Maybe you have something in your profile that has been left over… try this. Open the edit profile window, copy all the text into notepad, clear your info with the “clear info” button, and then copy from notepad into the edit profile window and fix any links you had in there. That’s helped me with nearly every profile problem I’ve had.

MemberI dunno how they’d do that though since they can only use the ones built in.. in case anyone reading this didn’t know, there’s a buttload of smiley sets built in, meant mosly for when an AOL user IMs you, but if you know how, you can get to them.

Membersomeguy, you have buddy4u listed twice, one for the subprofile
panickedthumb
MemberDavid– did you mean to leave the target = _self out of the linkin your profile? the entire point, I thought, of a sub-profile was for it to show up in the window.
Here’s hoping that the profile server isn’t encoding web pages in a way that aim can’t read in the away box.
And sorry if I’m way off, I haven’t had time to try it out yet.
panickedthumb
MemberAway messages are also not stored on the server. It actually seems in some instances that some programs’ aliases are stored. So your buddy list shouldn’t be a problem unless you had some sort of virus that wiped it out (which I’ve never heard of)
panickedthumb
MemberI’d like to beta test it! Since it was me that inspired the idea after all 🙂
