Looking exciting so far, Jeff! Your observation over the state of the forums and site are nothing but accurate and I’m excited to see what you plan to do with it next. You’re an idea man, my friend. And I have the utmost confidence that your new direction is going to be fantastic.RabidKitten
Participant*smirks and rolls her eyes* Yeah the ‘big blue alumni’ line might help you score mad fuzz on the geek trail so you don’t have to toot your own horn so loud, but I don’t think it has a whole lot to do with the captcha issue.

Ant? This is creepy. I just recently searched for your stuff on bbb because of something I recalled a while back and found it was all gone. I…Erm…Uh…*blinks* Weird.Anyway! I’ve never surfed. Partially because I’ve never seen the ocean or any other place with sizable waves. I’ve never even snow boarded. Mostly because there are only two positions when you’re strapped to a 2X4 and shoved down a hill: Looking Cool, and DEAD!
So, because of that, I need to say Skiing.
My father skydives. In fact, he packs his own shoots as well. *Twirls a finger unenthusiastically* Good luck on that, sir.

ParticipantYes. Regardless of the latest article David sent out about the dangers of location based programs, I like foursquare.
My only problem is that being lame, I use the mobile version. Not just the mobile version, but the sms text based mobile version. Which makes finding locations and adding them impossible, not to mention changing your location. Which can be a pain when you’re trying to check into an unfamiliar location. Like when I was at Disneyland this weekend. My location is set to Vegas, so when I tap in @ Disneyland it pops up with a non-familiar location. Not very likely that NOBODY has put in Disneyland. And in fact, when coming home and changing my location to Anaheim and searching Disney, people have even added certain /rides/ inside the park.
So yes, that’s my biggest complaint. I’m lame and have to use SMS, and foursquare has crappy SMS help and functionality as a whole.

ParticipantI Loved This Movie.
Capitalized, just like that.
I loved that gritty, addiction prone, obsessive and flawed Holmes and his odd, annoyed, eternally suffering war hero Watson. AI thought that Jude and Jr had an amazing kind of back and forth on screen and some cosmic chemistry. The only thing that makes me kind of second guess it was I got really tired of sepia after a while.
The story was phenomenal, if somewhat ridiculous at points, and I did dig how they did some of Holmes’ inner dialogue. Simply wonderful.

ParticipantMr. Amenta,
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that you are so like rain on your wedding day. Or perhaps a free ride, when I’ve already paid. Dare I even say a traffic jam when I’m already late? Yes, I dare. Mr. Amenta, you are 10,000 spoons, when all I really need is a knife.
Sincerely Yours,

It wont hinder anyone else’s ability to read all about how they just ate a bowl of cheerios, but the cheerios tasted a little stale, so they poured them out and had toast instead. Or whatever.
ep2002;245469 wrote:2. The problem with people adding me randomly, is that I can’t see their profile to see if they are English speaking. I can’t do that until they’ve been confirmed, right?
For my biz acct., this makes it very difficult.Actually, people are able to put a safety lock on just how much or how little others can see of their profile before they’re friends. BUT the problem here is that there is no “Language” block on the ‘About Me’, so even on friends there isn’t anywhere that I see where English is a primary language. The only way you can tell is by actually talking to them.
Though, why you would want to spam up your facebook with a bunch of people you don’t know and don’t care to know is something I’m not quite understanding why you’d want to inflict upon yourself. If it’s for business, a lot of people will have the business they work for (or school they go to) under the ‘education and work’ section if they’re serious about networking. And that’s typically viewable.
ep2002;245469 wrote:3. How do I see someone’s DOB or age? I’m looking for a person who has a very popular name, & I don’t want to message 122 to see if any one of them is him LOL but I can’t see their ages.Alright, an easy way to search for a friend is if you know their email address, job or school. If you know that, you can search for them here, under ‘Search for People’. Push their email in there and hit search.
OR!
When you search for a name, sometimes it will say what networks/cities/schools they’re in.
OR!
If you had mutual friends, you can troll through the lists of your friends’ friends for their names.
OR!
If you click on their name and view their profile, flip over to the INFO tab and it’ll show things like birthdate if they’ve entered it.
OR!
Looking at a picture also helps sometimes *winks*ep2002;245469 wrote:4. For my biz acct. I tried to change the user name b/c I want my company name to be after the http://www.fb.com/companyname but FB made it VERY difficult to do this, & they won’t allow the word “exotic” which is really pissing me off.Sometimes, Facebook is just a pain in the ass and doesn’t like certain words that could be used in a non PG manner. The only thing I can suggest trying to use another manner of spelling the name out or another phrase related to the business.
C’mon, can you about imagine how much crap we get for being ‘Big Blue Ball’ around here? *grins* Sometimes ‘Big Blue’ is the best Jeff can do, I’m sure, just because of ‘implications’.If you like I’m sure you can send a word off to Facebook and see if they have any suggestions or can make an exception
ep2002;245469 wrote:5. When I went to change my name on another acct., I got those warnings about how it has to be a real name, blah blah, but I put Michelle – company name. Will they really delete my acct.?
Technically, anything that violates the terms of conduct, rights and restrictions of Facebook is terms for deletion. Among them:
- Registration and Account Security Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:
- You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission.
- You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain (such as selling your status update to an advertiser).
- You will not use Facebook if you are under 13.
- You will not use Facebook if you are a convicted sex offender.
- You will keep your contact information accurate and up-to-date.
- You will not share your password, let anyone else access your account, or do anything else that might jeopardize the security of your account.
- You will not transfer your account to anyone without first getting our written permission.
- If you select a username for your account we reserve the right to remove or reclaim it if we believe appropriate (such as when a trademark owner complains about a username that does not closely relate to a user’s actual name).
This generally means you have to use some semblance of your real name. The Company should go in your education and work section.
ep2002;245469 wrote:The person who set up one of my biz accts. put a random DOB, so now I have people wishing me a Happy B-day LOLHow do I change that?
HAH! Funny. Sure! You just go to your profile, flip over to Info and if you float your mouse to the right side under basic information, an edit button should appear magically!
ep2002;245469 wrote:How do you put the “books I am reading” on your acct., & can you use affiliate code if you are an Amazon affiliate? There are many many many MANY different ‘books I am reading’ applications on facebook. You just need to install them and get to town on it!
Here’s a List of Virtual Bookshelf Applications. And I have no idea how any of these work, but if you slap ‘Amazon’ in the applications search, here’s a list of applications that in some way cater to Amazon.
I am tired and lazy and don’t want to sift through it all, but there you go if you like!To read more about each application, click on them, and hit the INFO tab, like you would a person! *beams*
Anything else? *jumps around from foot to foot, shadowboxing* Hit me!

ParticipantDoris. So much love for you right now, Lady.
That’s the attitude I have as well. My mama and all my siblings are on my facebook. And my boyfriend’s family. If they didn’t know I was weird before, they do now. Screw it. I’m not one for pretenses.
Though I know that a good number of ‘professional’ people struggle with facebook and the like. I have a very good friend who just passed the bar (YAY) and she’s asked us not to tag pictures of her because it’s hard to take your lawyer seriously when you’ve seen pictures of her LARPing as a young man in the 1700s.
I have some serious trouble getting ‘into’ Twitter. I don’t know why or when or how but I really…yeah. Well come on, most of you see the kind of stuff I comment about and the like! And while I have found a few interesting people to read on twitter, it’s all just too scattered and not a cohesive enough base for me to thrive. *shrugs* Meh.

ParticipantQuote:- foursquare is a free app that doesn’t really serve a purpose (but hey, it’s free!). It let’s you earn “badges” for going out to places and checking in. You can compete against your friends. Sadly, I have no friends on foursquare. 🙁
Jeff.
Now that my friends have infected me with the iphone…you are no longer alone.
*whispers* you are no longer alone…
I’m still hunting down apps for it since I’m lost in a sea of boring stuff and I am (as previously mentioned) Cheap, so free apps only. I have to say that the one that currently amuses me the most is Adult Swim’s Surgeon game. YAY! Sewing up an elf!!

I miss this.
Anyone? Anyone?

And by the way, I still use the B^3 mousepad and mug that I got a million years ago off cafepress for all those silly contests we used to run. Still haven’t gotten the thong, though. I’m waiting for the next contest, obviously.

ParticipantOkay. I’m going to say it, guys. I’m going to say it. Okay.
Work + Facebook = BAD IDEA
Maybe it’s just because it’s me, and those of you who have me on facebook, or, in the past the now essentially useless null and void myspace, know very well that my updates are random. Often spackled together with a smattering of cursing, a freckling of obscenity and on a really good day, some kind of mildly offensive suggestions as to what one could do with a dead fish named Roger, a mallet and their mother in law.
It’s become a rather favorite with my friends to qualify this with a story:
Once upon a time, RK had a camera. And one eventful night, found a shop full of little figurines in lewd sexual poses. Well, she took a picture of these figures, took it home, uploaded it on Facebook and tagged a bunch of her friends in it. Because that’s what friends do. And I am a good friend.
Now, imagine my curiosity when my phone blew up at 7 am with a bunch of ‘WTF’s and all my friends untagged themselves.
No, they were not offended.
In fact, they thought it was hilarious. Like I knew they would. Because we’re friends. And who doesn’t like to see little hand painted asian people in poses that we’ve only see in pornographic movies with the names of our friends and their spouses on them? It was much like a more awesome version of those stupid ‘most funny, most creative, most likely to get hit by a train’ pictures that people get tagged on.
But no. They were flipping out because they had just friended a bunch of mothers, fathers, in laws and co-workers and did not want them to realize just how funny and perverse their friends/loved ones/coworkers really are.
See, I sometimes forget that people actually give a damn about silly things like ‘reputation’ and like to hide who they are from the people they work with or go to church with.
*SIGH!*
I forget exactly where I was going with this, but it probably has something to do with the fact that people should just not friend up with people that they’re casually acquainted with, work with in ANY professional manner or generally hiding who they really are from (IE: family), or have a second account. I don’t care.
That’s my biggest gripe, really. People who update about stupid stuff generally just irritate me just enough to put them in the NO jar and never speak of it again. Overly preachy people. Overly emo people. Whatever. But some people just lead boring lives. Slice of life, people. Slice of life. Not everyone can be a cowboy, someone has to be the poor kid who scoops horse crap for a living.
Twitter just reminds me of people like this. And that effin’ SCARES me. Right now, I’m eating cereal. I love cereal. I stubbed my toe. LOL, anyone else stub their toe? JK, I love the attention. OMG. Walking my dog. Thinking about going home, right now, and stopping walking my dog, right now.
… … … … *braindead*
Make. It. Stop.
One of the most hilarious things I witnessed a couple years ago: Someone was hitting on my sister and I (because boys are like that *eyeroll*) and actually asked for …
A) Our numbers
B) Our email
C) Our myspacesYes. If you guessed C, you got it. I literally laughed so hard at him that I think it hurt his feelings.
