let me know when they start enabling the option to edit my profile, then i’ll download it.p.s. first post since june 8th at 3:31 PM 😀
If you download JAMS plugins for Triton AIM you will get profile editting. I am in the middle of updating JAMS for Beta 5 triton. It will include profile editing just like we did in JAMS 1.5. You can read all about JAMS (written by myself and other AOL engineers) and what is coming in triton and JAMS at my blog:

Memberuser91c wrote:this happens because AIM only allows 350 as their max buddies. it used to be that buddies the max was 200, but since Triton beta came out AIM/AOL has been slowly upgrading it’s space/services. when they finish everyone is supposedly supposed to have 400 max buddies (which is far more than anyone with a sane mind can talk to).Jon8RFC has written what AIM/AOL has added since the first Triton beta: https://bigblueball.com/forums/t31203-aim-expanded-profile.html#post173541. this information may be out of date so you may want to also check out greg’s (an AOL employee) aimInfo blog
Thanks for the gregsblog plug, while I am away on vacation this week, things go on at AOL w/o me :(, I will post when I can. As mentioned above more “limits” are being removed and/or expanded to accomodate users. Things like profiles, buddy lists, etc will continue to get bigger and better. Triton is helping us get to where we want to be, and will also get better as the summer goes along.

MemberYou can keep up with the increases in profile size along with bl size, etc at my blog. Look for more increases in size of different features this year.

MemberShadowdogMU wrote:Yes I guess it was just a play on words, I agree, its not that big of deal. But just something I did notice, my frined who I know does not have XP, does not have that listed under capabilaties, but again no big deal.Live video is a MSFT RTC 1.2 capability. If you have 1.2 installed it will show as video capabilble. There is a separate capibility that will populate if you have a web cam. To have a “video” conversation, neither you nor your buddy need to have a camera, instead you will have audio and you will see an image on how to get a video camera. (i know cheezee)
Maybe this week I will put up a blog entry on capabilities.

Come check out what I have to say about upgrading AIM later today or tomorrow at my blog…if you think AIM 5.2 is stable as compared to AIM 4.0 yes you are correct, but to say that it is more stable than AIM 5.5, might be a fallacy.

MemberYou will see more and more UI tips and tricks come out over the next few months…Justin, College Justin, and along with many others are working hard to provide a top notch IM experience…I know specifically College Justin’s blog will focus on some of the UI tips over the next few weeks.
For those who don’t know what I am talking about, myself along with 2 other collegues here at AOL have started blogging about IM development, architecture, and other tidbits to do with AIM. To check out my blog click here. You will find links to Justin and College Justin’s blogs from my page.

MemberRusty wrote:Neat-O that will be cool I didn’t really understand it at first. The blog will start rounding into shape as the summer comes along and we do more and more releases. I know that I hope the blog becomes a way we as developers can engage the community in what is happening here at AOL. Maybe we can share some neat tricks, or fun features. Look for either later tonight or tomorrow some cool screen shots of our Live Video stuff that is in the Beta 2 Triton client.

MemberThanks guys for the support. I hope to see many more of us here at AOL writing to the community. My blog will be more than just IM stuff. I am planning on sharing info from AOL/AIM Mail, AOL Browser, etc. Also, I will share some stuff about Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference in Sept.

MemberI think you will see the promotion of the client on http://www.aim.com before the fall. In terms of GM (Gold Medal) releases I think fall is a good estimate. From a development perspective I don’t think we really concentrate on what “type” of release we are working towards.
FWIW, developers DEFINITELY don’t decide when a product is good enough to release, that is a decision made at many different levels.

MemberPerformance is our number one priority, at least from the development teams at this point. This may or may not reduce the number of processes going forward, but it will get load times down, etc. For example, we are working on improving the time it takes to sign on…we would like to divide in half the time it takes. This is just one example, there are hundreds.
In terms of running on 2K, I do know that is in the cards, just be patient with us.

MemberAgain since triton is a beta we are doing things that will likely be fixed over time. I know for a fact that performance was something I was working on today. My guess is that with the latest beta release yesterday afternoon improves performance a good deal from beta 1. I have not bothered to measure it yet, but for subsequent releases, I am sure you will see real measured improvements.
In terms of 5.9, I have not been party to the 5.9 development, since Triton is the main priority, but from what I have seen after using it, it seems like the explorer is there for AIM Mail and the convience of retreiving mail. Here’s rooting for IMAP access soon.

MemberWhen we release a beta, it comes with the caveats that things may not work as designed. The install issues definitely fall into that catagory. I recommend going to the beta forums so our beta team is made aware of the situation. I like to think that beta 2 is definitely moving in the right direction though. Connectivity is improved as well as no ad in the BL, though most of you have figure out how to remove it, and now we have a great live video UI. I hope future client releases can keep the fixes comming including the installer ones.

Memberyou can try two things. If you are on 2K you can try downloading rtc 1.2 here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ae0bdc75-9f2f-4217-b97f-dfa0adf264aa&displaylang=en
But, our underlying code checks on some details other than just rtc version, namely win version, and that may have u run into problems.
Of course the other solution is to upgrade to XP, but i realize that, this is an extreme solution, and one I hate recommending, as I still have a 98 and 2K box I use every day. Just to whet you appetite you should take a look though at the latest AIM Triton beta for what we have done with video.
http://beta.aol.com/projects/tritonbeta/#vid
We have spent lots of time making the video experience more eye catching with 3d effects, etc.

MemberUh, I believe that is misleading information. About 2 years ago, when MSN was running a promotion to quit AOL and join MSN for 20 bucks but keep you AOL SN and use AIM, we fully canceled the SN. IOW, we would cancel the account for AOL and AIM use. However, I believe we turned that off only very recently. If it has not been turned off it will be shortly. This was quite controversial at AOL, and stirred up the pot so to speak. I for one am very glad that this has been turned off.
SULAX50
MemberThis is due to MSFT’s Real Time Communications (RTC) limitations. RTC 1.2 which is the version that aim windows requires runs on XP with aim only. Unlike Triton, which we left a hole in the full install to install on 2K, this is not the case with RTC 1.2.
