Sounds like instead of a computer problem, someone is playing mind games with you. If your “friend” is a friend and wants to continue talking with you I’ll guarantee she gets in contact with you. Sounds like you’ve done what you can – try asking the friend of the friend (wow, confusing) if she has created a new user name or how you can get in touch with her. Dont go hacking – even try contacting her under a different screen name.
No your not the only one. Last night when I was trying out the chat features I had to do the same thing. I kept losing the voice connection as well and that never happened with 5.6. For being a great new version it’s becoming not so great.

Uninstall the entire program and do a custom install where you uncheck the mail feature, default homepage, toolbar, etc..
Try an older version of Yahoo, it’s worked for me in the past. Otherwise looks like your admin/firewall has it blocked.
The waiting for authorization has popped up when i’ve added someone and they haven’t “accepted or denied” the request to let me add them. If your name was ‘cracked’ and there are names on the list that you don’t know i’d just delete them even though it gives the waiting message to you. Why risk going back and using the name.

As far as knowing if it’s a person you’ve spoke to before (using alias) – you can’t do anything about someone’s dishonesty. If your cautious about it, ignore them and if they want to talk bad enough they’ll go back to using their main ID.
There is no yahoo “tracker” that lets you know contacts/friends online Yahoo activity (dates). If your concerned that your just being ignored, browse thru a couple of discussions about what people suggest when you think your being blocked/ignored.
