There are methods in which to block buddy spy and have it give a false status, there is not a single program and in using the methods you are giving up functionality of your yahoo messenger client.I believe this topic has been discussed quite in length before.

MemberLetting the user decide is fine if we’re talking about a gray area, but there has to be a line somewhere.
I agree whole heartedly there is a line that needs to be established, although the other argument is who are we to decide what that line is?
Every so often someone wanders on BigBlueBall and asks if there is a program that can let them view other people’s webcams without their knowledge. This is clearly unethical, and in may locales may be illegal. As far as I’m concerned, support of such software will not be condoned at BigBlueBall.
I definately agree with you on this one, I wouldn’t add this option to buddy spy, I get asked multiple times whether or not I could do it, or whether or not I can add it, or if they can see who the user is talking to, or what they are typing.
These ‘options’ or ‘ideas’ spell out to me unethical and a severe invasion privacy.
Buddy Spy is kind of a grey area, for it only automates what can be done manually. So it is only doing something in which the user can do themselves with or without its help.
If we were to conduct a poll, rather than say “should such-and-such feature be added to Buddy Spy?” I’d like to ask whether detecting the various aliases someone has (while legitimately knowing only one) is ethical and “ok” from the perspective of most people.
That sounds like a fantastic idea to me, also Jeff I left you a PM on the board

MemberJeff wrote:It seems like Buddy Spy is crossing the line. The point of aliases is to give you the ability to maintain a private/public identity with different status for each. I may want to be jeff.hester with my employer, but reallyoldbastard with the friends I play Quake with. I may not want my employer to be aware of my reallyoldbastard nickname, not because there is anything wrong with it, but simply because I don’t want to be bothered by work when I’m in the middle of a Saturday night CTF frag-fest.
BigBlueBall has never officially promoted Buddy Spy, preferring to remain neutral and let individual users decide. But with changes like this, I may have to rethink that policy and discourage it’s use. Naturally, if we do that, people will still find and use Buddy Spy, so then the question becomes “how do we help people protect themselves from the Buddy Spy-ers?”
Well Jeff, obviously you have to do what you have to do. And obviously this is your site and I respect your decision either way. I personally leave it up to the user to decide what to do, I just add things that are requested and this being one of them. Now like I stated previously there are a few things that have to occur in order for the alias / root to be detected and im still deliberating on whether or not to *show* the alias / root account or whether or not to just say *alias* or *root* perhaps, you can open a thread and a poll? the outcome will determine my course.

MemberBuddy Spy’s chat room scanning hasnt been accurate since yahoo closed user rooms, however for me 9/10 it has been finding the room unless it is full.

MemberOk, if your Regional Settings are not set to English United States it will not connect, also you must have the program installed(not just downloading the release candidate) So download the current version(2.2.10) and then replace BuddySpy.exe w/ the Release Candidate of your choice(RC3 is most stable)

MemberMy experience w/ the new beta has been rather good. I have only a few complaints, my voice is always on when I enter the room and I can not turn it off(minus my registry hack) and sometimes when I right click to view profiles It crashes. Also the error of right clicking on a nickname to view profile, still tries to resolve the nickname instead of the actual screen name on yahoo profiles… But then again this is why its called a beta

MemberEven when put on ignore packets are still being sent to your computer, just the im/chat text isnt displayed its a fundamental flaw in the YMSG protocol.
To answer your question however, if you have put some one on ignoring and are still seeing that user’s IM’s you most likely have a full ignore list, if you go to your preferences then privacy tab, and try adding the name manually that way. It just might helpUnSaKreD

Also wanna know if with this new version there still are possibilities that someone is showing online when they aren’t.
Uhmmm… also wanted to say that a few weeks ago my computer crashed down and when I got back online I tried the Buddy Spy to check on a friend I was talking to when it broke… it said she was online… I left a few messages for her, I tried buddy Spy several times and only after like 10 minutes it said she was off. My friend got all my messages as offline next day since when my computer crashed she decided to sign off. Why is Buddy Spy acting this way? any help?
Thanks
Yahoo changes things constantly, more importantly so do I lol Buddy Spy 2.2.11 RC 3 is said to be the most stable with the current yahoo set up.As for your friend recieving messages offline the next day, it is entirely possible. When you logout you still register as online for a few minutes. So that is why you might have picked up your friend and then didnt.
