MemberI’d second that, five times over. mIRC is the ultimate in IRC scripting if you ask me. Simple and quick to learn, yet incredibly versatile.

MemberDon’t update to the newer versions then. 😉

Memberkhizz, you can get info on how the undernet works Here . According to this, it looks like there is no traditional style registration on the Undernet. No Nickserv, or Chanserv. But, they do have an online registration method that allows you to be identified as yourself no matter your nick. There is also an online channel registration, so you can own channels.

MemberThe “systeminfo” command is non-existent on my computer, are you sure this came with your operating system? Or is it maybe an XP pro tool only?

MemberIt is a possibility that you won’t be able to use a web based browser either; any self respecting administrator who doesn’t want instant messanging applications used on his/her computers would have their corresponding ports blocked. Of course, you could still evade their attempts to shut you off from society by using a proxy, but I’ve never heard of a browser based instant messanging client that allows the use of proxies.

Memberalkil47, you say that your head honcho has banned MSN messenger. Why not use a different mainstream product like Yahoo! or AIM? Or, maybe you could set up an IRC server on one of the computers within your network. That way, you could have a closed chatting system only accessable by your network. Of course, you’d have convince your supperiors that without a chatting system you won’t be able to work well….I’ll let you handle that one. 😉

MemberTo go even further into the subject of the particulars of ports that DJ previously explained, when a program on your computer connects to a port (say 80 for HTTP) it connects to that port on the Host computer (the HTTP Server), or the computer that you are connecting to. The port used on your computer to connect to the recieving computer is a random port (like DJ said) above port 1023. So the range of possible ports used on the client is from port 1024-65536.

MemberNope, sorry, the InstantIdler will not work with Gaim. Luckily, I believe there is an option in Gaim that allows you to set your idle time.
P.S. — Switching to Gaim is a smart decision 😉

MemberWhoa! Dave – future quiz show host. 😉
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Faasum, when you put up your away message does the ‘away’ icon appear next to your SN on your buddy list (add yourself if you haven’t already). If it doesn’t, is it a possibility that your screen name is signed on somewhere elsewhere? With the new AIM feature that allows multiple instances of one SN to be signed on at the same time, if your screenname is signed on at more than one place and only one of them goes away then you will not appear away. One way to test this would be to sign off at your normal location, go on with another SN, and see if you are still online.

MemberWhat content is added to your profile? Are you sure your brother actually made the program? Or could it be one of the recently developed AIM profile viruii that seem to be so abundent?

MemberThere is NO WAY to change the limit set by AOL as to how many buddies you can have on your AIM buddy list. Please make use of BigBlueBall’s search feature (upper right corner there is a link) and you will find that this question has been answered more times than worth reading.

MemberThanks for the link DJhyperbyte, I’m sure my brother will appreciate being able to move his mouse left in order to go left.

MemberIn the registry, there is a key in “HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAmerica OnlineAOL Instant Messenger (TM)CurrentVersionUsersWindowPos” that is called “Awaywnd”. If I had to guess I’d say this held the information about where the away message window appears, unfortunately it’s not too obvious as to how I would go about changing the value to a certain position. But, for me there is no need to. If I put up an away message and then sign off (My Aim -> Sign Off) with it on, the position seems to save. Does this work for anyone else?

MemberScripts for what client? mIRC, Bitchx, xchat? We need to know that first 😉
