MemberJimmWithTorch, your first idea is great but, I believe the Forgot Password link at aim.com just sends an e-mail to the address supplied. So fcangelo will have to change his/her e-mail first before clicking this link. Still, great solution to fcangelo’s problem.

MemberNo actually, for me it doesn’t take too much memory. And it allows you to set it’s processor priority so when your CPU’s load is heavy, it will pause.

Member*backs down as his idea is beaten into the ground with a sledgehammer* I accept my defeat.
Jeff, now that were on the topic of numbers relating to members, I noticed that you’re user id is 2. Who is 1?

MemberRe-install! Try it again, and see if the same happens. If it doesn’t, then you’re set. If it happens again then I’d re install and try to find another work around for the audio ads. There are a few circulating around.

MemberThe virus probably did something to disable the System Restore feature. I know I’ve had this happen before on one of my computers. I ended up formatting [:O].

Member*mouths drops open* Use the Search feature….or at least look at the topics on the first page!! It’s even a sticky!!! Go here to find what you’re looking for.

MemberA bug perhaps? Are you using the new Beta?

MemberMods, I know this virus isn’t of the realphx essence, but could we maybe get a stick that proposes the most common fixes for profile viruses in AIM? Lately it seems that the AIM forum has been flooded with requests for profile virus help, and it also seems that most are linked to realphx.com and therefore easily removed.
jasyn, this is in no way a flame directed towards you. I thank you for reading other topics pertaining to this subject before posting, finally, someone who listens to what all of the extremely consistent (and seeminly ignored) mods — “Use search before you post!!!” [variations = infinity].

MemberA firewall won’t block someones ability to get your IP address (via use of the netstat utility) after you have direct connected to them. When you direct connect, you authorize this connection, so unless your firewall is set to block these connections entirely, it won’t help in this situation…note that if your firewall is set to block direct connecting completely, you won’t be able to direct connect. Even if you start it.
Although, I will, once again, agree that a firewall is an incredibly good idea. Not for hiding yourself, but for attempting to prevent unauthorized connctions in to (and out of) your computer.

MemberI’d like to think that this type of behavior in schools is rare; What faculty would allow this? In my area, where schools are rarely over 1000 students, this type of behavior is greeted with “extreme” (not extreme enough in my opinion) punishment even if both parties are willing. I’m struggling to see how this type thing could be allowed within a school.
and — David, I feel your pain.

MemberAwesome DJ, nothing like a good laugh…and an assurance that I won’t get kicked 😉

MemberSpoofing IP addresses over TCP/IP is no easy thing. Only the most *l33t* can do so. I can’t, and I never will be able to. But, you’re still right. If you’re direct connecting to a friend, there is no need to worry about making your IP address available to them unless, of course, your friend is a script kiddie of sorts. *looks at username of above….* Right.

MemberAfter a bit of searching, I found a possible fix Here. I haven’t tested it yet, so just make sure you make a backup of any files you change before you actually change them. Nothing you change in the theme files should be fatal, so I wouldn’t get too worked up.
Update: I tried to make this work, but to no avail. The guy claims it worked for him, maybe you’ll have better luck. If you do make sure to tell us 😀
