MemberThis question has been asked many a time in the past. You can find a few of the previous topics here, here, and here. To summarize them all, I’ll say this: there is no way to see whos buddy lists you’re on, but, if you get people to submit their buddy lists to buddyzoo.com you can see if they have you on their list.
In the future, please use BBB’s search feature to make sure that no one has started topics in the past that could answer your questions.

MemberThanks for the tip Lurking Biohazard, I had never come across this feature before. It is already proving useful :D. But, I think the change should still stand, because, unless I’m missing something, this feature isn’t too easy to find. Or perhaps making this feature more visible would be sufficient.

MemberWonderful, thanks a ton WetDog500. I have developed a habit of misplacing the encrypted files I keep with such information (or deleting them) so this will make my life much easier.

MemberJust out of curiosity, why do you want to change the lock? Personally, I think it’s awesome :D. Uniqueness in an o-so boring world is wonderful.

Memberyeahitsjustme, you might try asking your friends if they have the option in the privacy section of the preferences dialog called “Allow only users on my buddy list [to contact me]” checked. If they do, you would have to be on their buddy list in order for them to recieve your messages. They can change this to allow anyone to contact them, even if they aren’t on their buddy list.

MemberI also found a way to manually change this at beemerworld.com , although the registry key seems to have some variations on my machine. The {60C1DB40-3D7D-11D3-9948-E8F007254B26} part on my machine (the site mentions the possibility of this being different) is different. Within the directory that this is supposed to be located, there are three different such numbers each containing the correct folders, so I just added the DWORD value to all three. Seems to work find [:-D].
Also, even though ladie_vennom did mention that hers loads much faster now that the splash screen is gone, this really shouldn’t make that much of a difference. I think it more depends on the speed of your system than on whether or not the splash screen is appearing. On my 2.53 p4 it loads in less than a second with both the splash screen and without it. But on my fathers old junker (700mhz) it takes about 20 seconds to load both with and without the splash screen.

MemberSomeguy03, just him going over to her house would not make it easy for him to retrieve the password, especially if she has it saved. The only way him going over to her house could help is if he saw TheseOceanSkys typeing in her password, even then, I would find it hard to believe that he could get it…especially since it’s a random password. Sometimes I can barely even tell what I’m typing, forget about looking at the keyboard of another and knowing what they are typing. TheseOceanSkys, have you told any of your friends your password?

MemberBeautiful, quite. Have you ever considered joining the open source revolution? I’d really like to look at your “AIM minus” code.
Zlink123
MemberYeah, I’ve tried that…I went to a friends house, tried older versions of AIM, other AIM clients (Gaim, Naim, Trillian, AIM express, blah blah), I made a perl program to sign on (it worked for other screen names, but not this one), and I even tried going directly to AIM headquarters and getting them to erase the account so I could re-register it….well, ok, I didn’t do that. But, I have tried everything that in any way changes the signon process…*sigh* Time to give up and move on I guess.
Thanks for all the help. [:/]

MemberI’m reviving this topic because, I am once again having the same problem. To answer Rusted’s previous question;
yes, I’m on XP. Any help would be wonderful. Also, I would like to mention that I don’t appreciate being flamed, especially impromptu, where flaming was not necessary. The error message I provided WAS the entire error message, as many of us know, full and complete diagnostic messages are rare in the windows world (offhand, the only place I can think of them appearing is in the Internet Explorer send error dialogs that come up when a program encounters a fatal error).
I’d also like to add, Rustedtight, that often times even with master thesis quality information your replies are weak and/or composed with a dialect that isn’t clear to us “common folk”. And that nearly all of your replies in the tip sections of this forum contain flaming of a sort. Do you enjoy flaming kids who are 9 and 10?
Ok, I’ll agree, flaming a first timer who clearly has not spent any time searching for and reading previous posts is acceptable (to a certain extent, we don’t want them running off crying…*clears his through in a “yes, I’m looking at you way”*). But, for members who have been here a while, why don’t you take it easy? We all make mistakes, we all post incomplete information on the first go every once in a while, and none of us are perfect (besides Jeff, of course ;)).

MemberFor all of you out there who, at some time, come upon adware (trust me, you all will) I’d strongly suggest picking up a copy of Spybot: Search and Destroy at this site.
If you want to check out their homepage, head to http://www.safer-networking.org .
I’ve never come upon a piece of adware or spyware that presented anything of a challenge to this wonderful life saving program….and best of all, it’s free!Zlink123
MemberWhoaa! Look, Look! Only 33 seconds apart Craaazy ;):p
Sorry, couldn’t resist….
Zlink123
MemberYou can’t, unless you saved the conversation you want to view by going to File>Save. Otherwise, you need a third party program.

MemberHead to imchaos.com and check out their “simple list”. This logs the IP of users who click on a link in your info. I believe that their sub profile feature also logs IP addresses, but I’ve never used (and I got sidetracked while going to look…finally someone implimented the pic-in-profile bit! ;)) it so don’t bet your life on it.
