Why is everyone saying that Yahoo is bringing out a new version on the 24th? Just because the message says to upgrade? The message is only being sent to people using YMSG9 which is used by Messenger 5, messenger 5.5 uses YMSG10 and 5.6 uses YMSG11. Yahoo are stopping support for YMSG9 to force people still using messenger 5 to upgrade to 5.6. If Yahoo were bringing out a new version and wanted to make sure everybody used it they would also send this message to YMSG10 (5.5) and YMSG11 (5.6) users.

carbonizeMemberYeah you only get the message if you log in using YMSG9. Which is quite funny because as anyone who is familiar with the YMSG will tell you they are all the same apart from the position of the information in the packets.
I wonder if I can log in using the YMSG9 login if I change the start of the packet to YMSG10 instead
carbonizeMemberTrillian uses scs.yahoo.com by default. Personally I use scsa.msg.yahoo.com but there is a plethora of servers out there. Shame Yahoo Messenger doesn’t let you select what server to use.
carbonizeMemberIf you don’t trust him then to be honest your relationship is pretty much dead. Trust is important in a relationship. But enough marriage guidance. The only way to do this without using spyware would be to turn on archiving and hope he doesn’t notice. I assume you know his password?
Yahoo used to leave a session log that included the last x amount of IM’s in plain text but thankfully they fixed this bug.
carbonizeMemberIf he can see your desktop then you must have a trojan on your system. Run a virus scan and use a firewall. When he kicks you off do you get a message saying you have logged in on a different machine or do you just get disconnected? If the latter he is just using a booter on you.
My advice to you, and every body else, is to use one account for messenger and one for chat. Post the guys name, I could do with a laugh.

Slander tehir name with a msn messenger bot that will keep signing you in and out. as long as you put a message like “NICK IS A BIG D^%$ HEAD.” they will eventually get tired of seeing it and come back to tell you to stop. even though it is my favorite i personally do not recommend it unless you have a very short buddy list. i mean your goin to drive people nuts doing this XD.
Yes you will annoy your other friends and probably get blocked by them as well. Last I checked if you’re blocked then they wont see you coming and going neither so this childish behaviour serves no purpose.
I’m going to assume the person in question blocked you for a reason. If you’re that bothered simply send them an email either apologising or asking to talk.
carbonizeMemberMaybe MSN are just thinking about charging Trillian as Trillian Charges users?
carbonizeMemberThis is now old news. Basically Yaho are forcing anyone using Yahoo messenger 5 to update by killing the protocol version it uses, YMSG9. Trillian Pro 1 and 0.74 both use YMSG9 but Pro 2 was updated to YMSG11 for the final release.
carbonizeMemberPersonally I’d say stick with the link Freddy posted as thats the site of the guy that made it. Freecreeds site is great but I wouldn’t trust anything you got off the other two that scarementio posted, no offence to sacrementio.
carbonizeMemberAt a guess I’d say thats because you have the crappy UK version of Yahoo! messenger which has many features removed including user rooms in chat. Goto http://messenger.yahoo.com and get the American version. Having said that I think the Call option is to America/Canada only anyways.
carbonizeMemberAlways wondered why people think that other people care what they are listening to. It’s not like they can listen to it aswell. Anyways a search on Google revealed nothing about a program called Y-amp although it did remind me of the fact Yahoo actually made it’s own MP3 player. If I remember rightly Miranda, an multi client messenger, had a plug in that changed your status message to the currently playing track and Trillian Pro has a plug in that lets you type /music to post what you are currently playing.
carbonizeMemberI loved miranda, small and fast. My major problem was the Yahoo plugin is in serious need of updating, and with the recent news of Yahoo stopping YMSG9 support the Yahoo plugin may become defunct (I have never sniffed Miranda so am not 100% on what version of YMSG it uses). On the bright side, since Miranda is plug in based and most plug ins aer coded by third parties, it is always upto date with the latest protocol versions and changes (except for Yahoo). Another good thing is that a lot about miranda is open source so people can build on other peoples code.
carbonizeMemberWell I would assume it wll be updated before September 24th as this is when the Yahoo protocol Trillian uses stops being supported. It would make sense to update both at the same time.
carbonizeMemberLet’s be clear about this from the offset. YOU CANNOT GET AN IP FROM YAHOO. By this I mean that, apart from when transfering a file, there is no direct connection between your machine and theirs. All packets are sent to a Yahoo server which then forwards them to the other user. So feel free to do a netstat or read your packet sniffer but the only IP you will see is for the Yahoo server. And as for getting their IP from a file transfer or by having them click a link to a server on your pc, which will also give them your ip, both these methods require the user to actually click the link or accept the download and I doubt a stalker will be that stupid.
Even if you do get an IP it will not tell you anything. A whois or look up on an IP will only show you the persons ISP and possibly the ISP’s head office address. LOOKING UP AND IP WILL NEVER GIVE YOU THE USERS HOME ADDRESS.
If you have a stalker in Yahoo then report them to Yahoo. Yahoo can access the IP’s of users and pass this information on to the law if required.
