MemberNo, when your status is set to “appear offline” you can’t send or receive any messages. This is possible with Yahoo, but MSN hasn’t added this feature (yet?)…

Membersuch as changing the color of the chat windows (doesn’t work properly IMO), hiding the title bar like you can do with Windows Media Player 9, and there’s a small change to the look of the Webcam settings window. I haven’t found any other new features or major changes.

Memberhow do you suppose a message would get sent if you’re not online? You can’t make a phone call without picking up the phone either…

Memberthe beta has a few small new features, but none that I’d say are big enough to make it a must-have.

MemberTrillian won’t let me into the member area anymore so I can’t download the patch [v] Could anyone give me an alternate download location or email it to me? I can’t believe they won’t share patches to faulty products, and I definitely won’t pay $25 to get a patch and another year of no service…
Never mind. I had to look at my computer at home to get the correct email address (I have too many, and couldn’t remember which one I used to register/buy Trillian with). Turns out I tried the wrong one [v] 😀FrutZle
MemberI remember reading about other people who couldn’t run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard on these forums (might’ve been the Webcam forum). However, I can’t recall them posting about a solution, so I can’t really help other than suggesting a search on the forums.

Memberjust install them in Windows as you always do through Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts > File > Install new font, or by copying and pasting the new fonts into the Fonts directory which is located in the directory where Windows is installed.
Once the fonts are added, restart the software where you want to use the fonts, and they’ll be added to the font list for you to use in your files.

Memberif you have a legal copy, but it won’t work for whatever reason, I’d say get one of your friends’ copies and try using that (of course first with your own product key, if that doesn’t work, use the friend’s product key).

MemberIs this when someone tries to send you a file over MSN Messenger? If so, what path do you have set in the text field for “Put files received from others in this folder” (it’s can be found in Tools > Options > Messages tab)? Perhaps there’s some permissions problem and you should use an existing directory on your computer?

MemberThough most of what I read here is true, I voted here when I first saw this topic, and chose the “agree” option. Microsoft might show that they’re not willing to stand up to the problems that’ve been haunting the MSN chat rooms, and yes, they are showing that they want to increase profit by making the remaining chat service a paid service. They admitted that though it’s not what made them decide to close most chat rooms, it will help make MSN more profitable… or at least they won’t lose as much as they have in the past. But, as I’ve also heard others say; where are the parents while their kids are online?
My view, rather simply put, is that once a kid is old enough to be trusted online alone, he or she should also be made aware of the potential hazards. Children get taught not to talk to “strangers” from the moment they are old enough to walk and talk, and they get taught about the “birds and the bees” earlier and earlier, but when it comes to what can happen online, most parents don’t do a thing to educate their kids.
Should MSN, or any other organization that offers chat rooms and/or forums, take over the role of the parent and educate children? Do you really think children will read that information when they want to chat? Just think of yourself: do you always read the entire privacy policy on every website on which you use a service (be it an online store, or a chat site)? Most people don’t even take time to read the forums’ policy before they register (“now where’s that ‘agree’ button??”).Yes, it has to come from both sides, both that of the parent and that of the service provider. MSN has found it too costly to run their chat rooms, let alone have them all moderated 24/7/365, and almost impossible to ban bots. I don’t blame them for the step they’ve taken, and honestly believe that if MSN hadn’t taken this step now, someone else would’ve soon enough. If only Yahoo had the guts to do something to clean out their chat rooms…

MemberWhen someone closes the chat window and you’re using Trillian, you get the message “xxx has left the conversation” or something like that. I can’t say I’ve seen that on MSN Messenger though. But, I think what fil wants is to get a similar notification when someone opens a chat window with him, even if that person doesn’t actually start a chat.

MemberSorry Jeff, but that won’t help for the “problem” I described since on my computers that checkbox isn’t checked to begin with 🙂

Memberif you receive messages, you must be logged in, otherwise the messages can’t get to your computer…
Are you using Windows XP? If so, do you have both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger running? Again if so, you might be receiving the messages through one of the two while you see yourself as being logged out in the other Messenger.FrutZle
MemberHellsfury, when I uninstall Windows Messenger using the Add/Remove Windows Components option, the program itself isn’t removed but instead merely the link in the start menu gets removed. Also, ideally I’d like to keep Windows Messenger installed for my second .Net Passport rather than installing some plug-in that’ll allow running of multiple MSN Messengers at the same time.
Is there perhaps a registry key that I can edit that now lets Windows Messenger start up when Windows starts, even though I’ve unchecked the boxes for “load when Windows starts” and “allow to run in the background” in Windows Messenger’s options?id09, I did do a search in this forum and unfortunately I didn’t find any topics that dealt with this exact problem. I know how to use forums, especially Snitz Forums since I’ve been using them for nearly two years and am a moderator at the Snitz Forums support forums, and searching is the first thing I do when I think I have something worth posting about 😉
