Yes I am going to uninstall it tonight. I have no interest in AIM’s games. I like MSN’s games. I will also get rid of AOD.
Same for me. I keep my machine on 24/7 (not a problem with XP) and I use away messages or appear offline on MSN. AIM 5.5 has invisibility so I can use that now. That way I can lurke.
I got an alert about a newer version being available, but when I clicked on the What’s New, it says it was released in October. WTF is up with that? :s
Thanks for these answers. I thought my computer was possessed! I edited my HOSTS file and have downloaded the ad removal patch just in case. I’m also using AIM 5.2 and DeadAIM 4.
Ah ha! That proves it! There’s a bug in 6.1. Why can’t MS ever just fess up to these things instead of blaming the user?

Those jerks! What about people who don’t have or want MS Office? I have no plans to buy Office XP because Word 97 still works fine for me.
I’m not talking about on the buddy list. I’m talking about in the chat window. I know you don’t see the emoticons in the buddy list. I’m talking about when my friends and I are chatting and they type a message. I don’t see the emoticons when the message is posted. In the picture below, the emoticons show up because my friend just left the chat. But if he just types a message all I get are the text source.
Yes I am positive. They’re emoticons like the cat and the rice bowl. Both are standard MSN Msg icons. The icons do show up when my friends come into and leave chat rooms that I set up in MSN Msg.
AIM seriously needs to come up with an Appear Offline mode. All the other IMs have this. AIM is falling further and further behind the 8 ball when compared with IMs like MSN Msg 6.
