ParticipantCould be hotmail is having problems, except hotmail will paste ( server busy) or (unable to process request) (request timed out) not page cannot display. (typically) 100% of the calls I take are either winsock issues, but if you can see any .com addy then this isnt the issue. or its secure sites
if youve win XP go to
start > run ant type regsvr32 wintrust.dll and hit enter
start > run ant type regsvr32 softpub.dll and hit enter
start > run ant type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter a blackbox will apear and disappear
start > run ant type netsh int ip reset all and hit enter a blackbox will apear and disappearif its secure sites with XP this usually fixes it otherwise call your manufacturer

Participantthere are latency issues with hotmail for numerous reasons and the only thing to do is wait..lol If your sending emails to comcast or aol theres a known issue with these ISP litterally blocking incoming emails from MSN hotmail to thier subscribers. You can always check filters and such, another thing I would look to is …… hotmail.com in IE always displays litterally whats there.

Participantwell I think its a problem with windows so I would call the PC manufacturer and have them uninstall and reinstall your FTP protocol, Ive had calls in the past at MSN about the same thing and all we can do is refer em to thier OEM

Participantif its that you open Messenger click to sign into Messenger … tidles for awhile and then goes back to sign in, messenger doesnt detect an internet connection. I would look for firewalls and possible AV software, things of this nature. You wouldent get an error message after the initial if you uninstalled and reinstalled the software … 😛 weird I know but this seems to be the happening. Also try to see if you have problems accessing secure sites in IE like banking sites. Sometimes its simply this

ParticipantNow you mean youve one PC with messenger and multiple email accts you use right, but only one has the problem? Well then this is either serverside or else you credentials being given are corrupt. With serverside go to passport.com and sign in> go to member services> edit passport info> and manually remove everything and make it correct then update it. If its your credentials serverside (ex. zip 90210 but you timezone is eastern) this could cause a problem, otherwise if its your credentials on your PC> and youve windows XP go to control panel> user acct> pick your user acct in windows> manage .net passport passwords and delete the acct. Then when you open messenger your email will not be in the drop down, simply enter it in again. Hopefully this will help

Participantanother thing you might wanna see is if youve admin rights on windows, I know XP is always having installation problems if they arent the admin
otherwise that sounds good

ParticipantYou could always get in touch of the ISP but I know in US the only real thing that can be acomplished is to revoke the persons passport. Honestly if its that extensive id be looking on your PC for some sort of program causing that. And if you state that theyve been meesing with other peoples acct then I would definetly say youve got some sorta keylogger program causing it. The only thing ive personally ever come across was a fake loggout screen that would come on the persons screen you wanted the PW of, but they had to accept a DL for it. But it would log you out and when your login again it would transmit the PW to the other party. I dunno but honestly what can MSN do?!? revoke a passport or two, but as far as your PC nothing. And MSN can only prosecute if it involves threat of violence or money. So hopefully they can find the person and revoke his passport , but he can get another just like you and I. So if its a program on your PC I dont think hed care much, hell just do it again

Participantdisabling Mcafee doesnt always work, it will still act as a firewall if its blocked ports , as this is a setting that doesnt reset itself until you uninstall Mcafee
aalyianut
ParticipantIts a case specific error … your user ID or password is incorrect. you could try going to passport.com and try signing into passport to verify if your pasword is what is on MSN side, if not then obviously its wrong, or if its right and signs you in make sure its for the right email addy in messenger if it is…… then your user credentials are corrupt and sending the wrong information to the servers. So you would need to uninstall MSN messenger and renmove it all from your registry.
If its your password … and you cannot verify information to reset it then you would need to go to hotmail.com and click help> contact us as this is the only means of contacting hotmail to reset your password

Participantits his firewall for sure. If hes got any kind of networking you might want to look into that as well. As for mcafee try uninstalling it and seeing if it works, if it does just install Mcafee again and it should work
