There are at least a few adware programs in there, including WebRebates. Do like David said and run Ad-Aware. I also personally like SpyBot, also free.
camsterMemberwell, you do need a new one, I’m not saying you don’t. 8 years would make it a 1998, and I know how frustrating having one of those (or lower) can be. I had one until recently. The best ways to impress your parents are:
-Do your homework. Find a computer that has everything you need and is cheap and preferablly on sale. Search the net and bestbuy.com until you find the perfect one. Cheap is the key though, otherwise they probablly won’t give in.
-Offer to pay for part of it. Save your money until you have a substantial amount, or maybe even enough for the whole computer, depending on how much money you can save. I don’t know how old you are, but offer to up chores and jobs around the house. If you expect to be able to whine to them and get a computer, it won’t happen. If you want it, work for it.
-Show them what they’re missing. Take them to Best Buy and bring them to the computer section. Make sure to show them one of those 3.X ghz, lcd screens that are playing DVDs. That should grab their attention. Show them what benifet THEY will get out of it. Maybe it can allow them to pay bills online, or something like that.
camsterMemberNobody uses email except my grandparents and forums and things I’ve signed up for. So, 2-4 times a week, although it’s getting less and less. I suppose in a month or so I’ll be down to once every two weeks
camsterMembermy friend just got some. You could hardly tell that anything was even on them. However, I don’t know whether it was a problem with the cd or the player or the skin, but, he couldn’t get the cd to play a few times
camsterMembercan you get to the page where you fill in your “desired screen name” “word verification”, etc? I can get there just fine. Or is it just when you hit submit?
camsterMemberyes, but I thought that, for the newbies, the google one was a much faster and reliable source to be the default search tool. I actually got the idea from looking at the thing at the bottom. I now use that to search the forums instead.

camsterMemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by Grantgsorry but I don’t understand
what don’t you understand? Basically, by making a link
aim:AIMToday?URL=YOURURLHERE
that url will open in the AIM Today WindowcamsterMemberwell, do you need the things that iRiver has like holding any file type? if you wouldn’t REALLY need that, I would definitely go iPod. I’ve found something out. If you get an iRiver, you’ll end up saying, “Hey, let me go get my mp3 player”. If you get the iPod, you’ll say, “Hey, let me go get my iPod.” You wouldn’t say iRiver for iRiver, and you wouldn’t say mp3 player for iPod. iPod has revolutionized mp3 players, putting them in their own class. If money is the same on each of them, I would definitely get an iPod. I’m saving up myself. ($104.00 left)
camsterMemberWhat version are you using, and what version are they using?

Bryan AdamscamsterMemberthis would be a good idea if our moderators here were like other ones, and didn’t do anything and acted immaturely. But, we don’t have that problem here. So far, our moderator status is a very high honor, and there is no need for anyone else.
camsterMemberthats weird….what is the icon you’re talking about? maybe post a screenshot. Do you happen to have linked screennames, and are you using a screenname that is NOT the default one when you are changing your preferences? You may be clearing your icon for your default sn instead…
camsterMembervery cool idea. I’m surprised no one has though of it before. BUT, I found they are a little too expensive, I think I would rather use other methods. I guess this isn’t really TOO bad, but, Best Buy has them for $19.99 for a 20 pack. Right now I’ll just take my chances. What’d be cool is if bands came up with their own and had them inside the CD case. It could have their own designs on them….anyways….heres the Best Buy link if anyone wants it:

I didn’t think thats what redsoxfan meant that it happens when she puts her mouse over the AIM ad, but, I googled it, and, that is the problem. If you want to, use an ad-remover, otherwise, it seems that (from the info in my google search) that you can’t do anything else but get rid of the whole ad. You can try HotShot’s link, or there are a few if you search for “ad remover” in BBB search
