It works thank you.
dreadMemberWLM 8.5 is beta. WLM 8.1 is the most recent one. You can get WLM 8.1 here. Clear the messenger cache. Go to start then run and put in %temp% and you should see the directory MessengerCache. Delete everything in that directory and then try and see if it crashes if it does Click on “What data does this error contain” and see what the problem is.
dreadMemberYou cannot just copy the folders over most of the time it will not work. What you can do but it sucks is rename the file extension from id2 to png and add them back one by one or use a program like EmoAdder. Just looked and the custom emotes are stored in C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMessengerObjectStore. That is with a clean install of WLM with never having MSN Messenger installed. I would get MSN BackUp and use it though.
dreadMemberThe cannot unblock the contact at this time sounds like they have already blocked or delete you. Need to goto options then Privacy and look at who is on the block list. The block list will show blocked people that wont necessarily show as blocked on your contact list.
dreadMemberDo not what to tell you to be honest. I did find some people with your same problem but no one replied or they said to do the same as you did. I am not one of those people that think you should uninstall then reinstall to fix everything but you can try this post. You will have to go through everyones account and remove the files. Other things I would recommend do not know if it will help though is run system file checker check for viruses, spy/adware etc…. Do a windows update. Get CCleaner and run it. Look at this topic and see what all I recommended about windows defender system file checker etc…
dreadMemberPort problem maybe. Do you have a router? What firewall do you use?
dreadMemberGlad you got it working.
dreadMemberIn that post I made I gave the directories and registry keys to delete after you uninstall it and use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
dreadMemberI see you have avast installed update it and run a full scan. I would scan for spy/adware to. You can get Windows Defender and do a full scan. Make sure you are installing the latest version of WLM also. Make sure you are uninstalling the previous versions of WLM before you install a new one. I do not know if it will help or not but you can look at this and completely remove WLM before you install it again.
dreadMemberOh ok the /scanboot is the reason you had to restart. Do a search for msoert2.dll it should be in your system32 directory. You could try to replace the file and see what happens. I would check to see what version you have first though and the size. Here is the link to dl the file
dreadMemberSounds like you ran Error-Checking. This is what I was saying to run. You can find what system file checker did in Event Viewer. Open Event Viewer and click on System and look for Windows File Protection. To see what happened with Error-Checking instead of going to System goto Application and do a search for chkdsk. At the top of Event Viewer goto View then Find and where it says Description put in chkdsk. Do not think you can delete post you have to be a mod but I am not sure never have tried it on here and do not know all the permissions they give or do not give on these forums.
dreadMemberDid you run system file checker and when is the last time you have done a windows update?
dreadMemberWhat command did you run to register it was it this one regsvr32 msxml3.dll?
dreadMemberBefore you or her does any of this, if she is does not want to lose any of her emotes, winks, dps etc… get MSN BackUp
I suggest using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove WLM. Link for it is here. Uninstall any addons she might have for WLM.
After she gets it uninstalled I would check the registry and see if any registry items is left over. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessenger, HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows Live, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSNMessenger.
After you do all of that goto C:Documents and SettingsHer User AccountApplication DataMicrosoft and delete the directory MSN Messenger, there might be other directories in there to like Windows Live Call if there is delete them. Then goto C:Documents and SettingsHer User AccountLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoft and delete the directories Windows Live Contacts and Messenger. Then goto C:Documents and SettingsHer User Account and delete the directory Contacts. Then goto C:Program Files and delete the directory MSN Messenger. I would restart the computer and get CCleaner and run it. In Ccleaner run the Cleaner and click on Issues and run that. Then I would go and get the latest version of WLM and install it. Then use MSN BackUp if she backed up anything to restore her emotes, winks etc…
Is she having any other problems beside WLM? Did she remove her old dial-up connection from Network Connections? I would make sure that old dial-up connection is gone and that nothing else is using it. Look in Internet Options aslo under the tab Connections.
dreadMemberHave you ran system file checker lately? Msoert2.dll is for OE.
