Really ?
I find that statement astonishing, and I’m not inclined to believe it!
Can anyone else confirm or deny this ?Eagle_KiwiMemberHi Soccer4.
You say you searched MS, but how about a full internet search, simply on that error code ?
That should reveal sites like THIS, that looks quite helpful !?Eagle_KiwiMemberAwww, nothing’s ever perfect, but gee, some things get close π
For PC to Mac video you can use Skype, or iVisit is good too.
Yahoo is OUT, as currently the Mac version does not include audio, or video if I’m not mistaken.
And I’m not sure if WLM and/or AIM have Mac/video versions.I think I’d suggest stick with your Gaim, as you #1 contact with ALL your buddies, then jump into specific programs if/when you do want to video or voice with someone. (There’s no harm in having all the individual programs installed – but just open each one as/when required).
Good luck. π
Eagle_KiwiMemberHi there O.F.
None of the major individual IM programs (AIM, WLM, Yahoo, etc) let you use cam – or voice – direct to another network. As for the multi-protocol programs, like Gaim, I don’t know of any of those that support cams either – generally any sort of communication from one network to another is simple basic TEXT.
I’d suggest if you DO want to use your cam that you choose whichever network you want to use it on, and download the “real” program.
I hope your nice present doesn’t turn out to be a millstone around your neck !
Eagle_KiwiMemberThank you – now indeed fixed – even at THIS end.
(But my immediate “urge” has passed – I’ll make the post another time).P.S. Glad I’m officially recognised as Not A Deviant, if nothing else. π
Eagle_KiwiMemberWow!!! Superfastest response I’ve ever had, from anyone !!
Thanks Jeff. πWell, my screen shows exactly as yours, EXCEPT no sign of that “Add New Entry”.
I’m using SlimBrowser (IE-based) – but I see the same using Firefox and also IE7 – that row shows only “Categories”, “Show”, “Search”, then “2.2.6” at the right hand end.
Eagle_KiwiMemberYou’re most welcome – I’m just annoyed we haven’t resolved this yet.
Perhaps check THIS post (from BBB YM FAQs) for any clue ?And maybe also post here details of your system, such as:
Operating system (is it XP or XP-SP2, etc ?)
Internet connection (dialup or broadband, and if latter, do you have a router)
Antivirus program (Nortons, AVG, etc etc ?)
Firewall (perhaps Zone Alarm, Comodo, etc ??)And – at risk of opening a Pandora’s box π – I wonder do you have any OTHER odd problems with other programs ?
Eagle_KiwiMemberHmmmm, I see.
Well, then I’m almost out of ideas here, buddy. πI hope someone else might have a suggestion for you here ?
Eagle_KiwiMemberOk John …. you’re making progress anyway π
Assuming you have a normal Windows XP, and using the built-in Windows firewall, go to Start, Control Panel, Security Center.
This will show if your firewall is ON or OFF – if it’s ON then click “Windows Firewall” at bottom of that window.
This brings up the firewall window, where you turn it OFF. (It’s probably safe to ignore their “not recommended” as long as – no matter what – you will turn it back ON again in a few minutes !).Once you’ve done that, try to open YM again. If it works (at last!?) – then you know it IS the firewall causing the blockage, so try in that firewall window going to the Exceptions tag, and scrolling down to see if “Yahoo Messenger” is ticked in there (it should be, to advise the firewall to make an “exception” and let YM traffic through).
Let’s know progress after that. π
Eagle_KiwiMemberHi John. And Welcome here to the BBB π
Firstly, the “normal” setting for YM should be to have “Messenger”, “Connection Preferences” set to NO PROXIES, then you shouldn’t have to worry about proxy numbers or any such complicated stuff.
If that doesn’t let u log in, then I’d suggest
- Try (temporarily) completely disabling any firewall you have – see if that helps. Or…
- Try accessing your YM account via the WEB-BASED YM (or Meebo), available here.
If either of those DON’T work for you, then I’d suggest a problem with your actual Yahoo account – but if either webbased option DOES work, then I guess you still have some setting wrong on your ordinary YM.
Let’s know what happens. And . . good luck.
December 23, 2006 at 11:55 am in reply to: YTK Lite – Free Yahoo! Messenger Enhancement Addon #155936Eagle_KiwiMemberHi TT.
Hey, could you please limit your topic TITLES to just ONE line (i.e. about 7 or 8 words max) – like everyone else does ?Really, I feel
YTK Lite Coming Home for the Holidays!! *FREE Messenger SUPER Enhancement*
is excessive (and makes it harder for us all to quickly scan all the OTHER posts.
Eagle_KiwiMemberThis is a rather ancient thread you’ve posted in, GG – and I hope you’re not going to post on everything where you actually have nothing to “say” ?! π
But anyway, if u have a mic then u r welcome to add me as a YM contact.
To add direct on your YM, use “Eagle_Kiwi” – or if you’re adding my YM to your WLM list, then use “[email protected]” (but please note, that is NOT a valid address for email as such).Eagle_KiwiMember??? !!!
Exactly WHAT is “not correct” Enigma ?
I understand and accept the original statement just fine.(And perhaps you ought to tell Yahoo – Chris’s post is a quote direct from them).
Eagle_KiwiMemberThank you Chris, for that useful piece of info.
I hadn’t given it a thought (as I never used Super anyway) but u can bet that sooner or later I’d have wondered ! π
Eagle_KiwiMemberI agree Vings, at least with the first part – turn off your Zone Alarm completely (just temporarily, as a “test”) then see if your transfers and/or cams work.
If they DO, then at least you know it’s a problem with the firewall – if they still DON’T work, at least you know for sure that the ZA is NOT the problem. -
