Hi there Liq.
Probably no connection (ulp, that’s a ghastly choice of words, when I think about it π ) but I had a strange occurrence about 9 hours ago.At 09:01 Jun 8 (USA-EDT) I was 3 hours into a quiet game of Y! Solitaire, with YM open too, when I suddenly lost connection to the game. Extremely uncommon!
I could not reconnect to it, but I WAS still online – I could still reach normal websites. However shortly thereafter my YM also disconnected, and wouldn’t reconnect.
I then happened to try opening AIM, MSN, PalTalk, and ICQ. Again I normally have no problem with any, but in this case NONE would let me in, except ICQ!!
I rang my ISP (Xtra, New Zealand) who admitted “they” HAD had a glitch, and suggested I reboot my broadband modem. I did this, and have had no problem since.
Does that ring any bells with you, I wonder ?
Eagle_KiwiMemberok, ok, thanks for at least getting back to ME, Mani.
Now, WHY can’t you search on here ? Click SEARCH (just beside NEW POSTS, at top of this thread) – a tiny window should open – then enter what you want, like maybe “no text”, then click GO.
This will bring up lots of threads that contain that phrase – find those relating to Yahoo (not AIM, MSN, etc) then read through them. Probably others have had same problem, and probably the answer is there too – but it won’t just jump up and offer itself to anyone on a plate – SOMEONE does have to “dig” for it.
(If you can’t manage that.. try THIS thread for one example. The very last post COULD help you.)
If still no joy, post back here, and state your YM version (is it standard 6, or maybe Beta 7?), your operating system (W98? .. XP ??) and any other info you think might help.
Also say what you may have ALREADY tried, e.g. the suggested solution in the link above…. SEARCHing here for other help (if not, then what do you still not understand about searching ?)But NEVER EXPECT quick answers in forums like this. They may happen, but many people (who may know easy solutions) may only visit once a week so won’t see your post till then.
50 “views” is nothing! Each of those 50 people was probably also skimming through 100 other assorted posts as well. Besides, quite probably none of them knew the answer anyway. There are 20,000 members go through here! You just need to wait for the Right One! π – or go “digging” and help yourself.Eagle_KiwiMemberMani – you come in here, completely anonymously, and completely free, then “DEMAND” attention.
I gave you a good suggestion – your answer wasplzz help im not able to find or do anything
.Then you never even acknowledged my second message.
Buddy, maybe there aint no such thing as a free lunch ! You seem completely unprepared to lift a finger to help YOURSELF… you just scream at the world because no one else will help you – for free – immediately.
Get real.
(By the way, my offer to help is WITHDRAWN. PERHAPS someone else here MAY choose to!). π‘Eagle_KiwiMemberDoes that + have to “go with the territory” (for Premier) ?
I’d like to sign up, to support BBB – but NOT if my name will no longer show as just plain “Eagle_Kiwi”
(Colour I don’t mind, but NOT something that could easily confuse/mislead people, like “Eagle_Kiwi+” !)Eagle_KiwiMemberFirstly, to complement this topic, HERE is the relevant FAQ section on referrals.
(It really bugs me that such info is always fragmented – one must not only Search Forums but ALSO Search FAQs).But, I dispute that FAQ info!!
It gives a link, and says it’ll work (as is, I assume!), but in fact it shows referrerid=0, so I’m sure that as is it will NOT work, for MY particular id for instance.
(EvilSeth’s post, above, adds the “truth” to the matter!?).
Further, let me clarify another point which I found very hard to piece together:…Whenever you view a thread, you will find a link somewhere on the page which will allow you to send a brief message to anyone you like. Your referrerid is added to the link you send…
Well, at last I DID find that link… under Topic Tools, then Email This Page. π
Indeed that appears to work fine, and may be an easier method than the messy copy/pasting involved in your idea, Seth ?
Oh, typical computers … everything probably IS “there” – but not necessarily in “logical” places (which is hard anyway, as there are usually so MANY things to be crammed in) – so once familiar these things are easy, but for newbies – not just to PCs but even to specific programs – is it any wonder they often just throw their PCs out the window ? π
I am one who doesn’t MIND reading the docs – but I DO strongly object when even those docs are wrong, incomplete, or misleading. π‘
Eagle_KiwiMemberok Mani… I’m happy to help further if u like.
If you’d like to add “eagle_kiwi” to your YM buddy list then maybe direct communication would be easier/quicker that way (especially if u have voice, as obviously “text” is hardly an option for you there at present).
But I’ll go try to research the solution for you anyway, sometime soon, if noone else comes up with an answer here in the meantime.
Don’t worry – “we” will fix it (though perhaps not today/tonight ;))
Eagle_KiwiMemberHi there Mani … (and WELCOME to the BBB :))
I don’t know personally, but I’m fairly sure I’ve seen that problem discussed here (and/or other places) quite often.
I’d suggest you SEARCH this forum (maybe for something like “no text” ?) and hopefully the answers will already be in here somewhere.Good luck… and I sure hope you can/will enjoy the great new YM 7 anyway.
Eagle_KiwiMemberHahaha … thanks for that most enlightening post, Martin.
APOLOGIES – I try it again now and indeed it DOES show the popups just fine, in all 5 browsers I have available!
I thought I must have been asleep when I made that post, but on checking further I find that – due to slowness of BBB for me – I often open links in new browser page, which DOES appear to omit the popup. But when I click those links “normally” then indeed I see the popups.
So – ISSUE WITHDRAWN
Eagle_KiwiMemberSorry to disappoint, Jeff, but I changed from your default “Enhanced” back to “Standard” within hours of joining BBB (mainly as I couldn’t figure posting links properly in enhanced, but in standard I find them easy!).
So, just for the record, my tests above were all done using “Standard”.
Eagle_KiwiMemberHi David.
Sounds an interesting little tool. But before I go to trouble of installing and trying it, can you clarify the “2nd screenname” part ?
Does this mean I’d need to create a second name, THEN ADD all my “main name buddies” to that second name, for it to show MY buddies’ statuses ?
Because if so, I don’t want to, partly as it would take ages, but also – wouldn’t all my friends then know, and/or wonder why, I had a second name ?
Perhaps (I hope!) I misunderstand something here ?
Eagle_KiwiMemberπ
Sure Jeff, I’d be very glad to.
But… I’ll send it to your email (shortly) – partly as it’s all getting a bit technical for public posting, I feel. But also (ulp ;)) cos it’s QUICKER for me .
Eagle_KiwiMemberThanks for that, David. But my feeling is that this seems more a “regular” thing… so… I’ve now run some tests:
I’ve taken a fairly long post, and timed the “Preview” page loading. I ran this 4 times, then ran exactly the same operation on 2 various other forum sites for comparison, then finally a second set on BBB.
Tests were all run close to 10:00 Mon 6/6 (U.S. EDT).Results (time, in seconds):
BBB (vBulletin3.0.6) ……. 12-15-15-12
WackyB (Invision 2.0.3) .. 15- 7- 8- 8
Vimas (phpBB 2.0.6) ……. 7-10-10-13
BBB (2nd run) ……………. 14-14-12-12I admit that the difference is not as bad as my initial gut feeling, but it still clearly shows that (for me anyway) accessing BBB is markedly slower than (some!?) other forum sites.
Having said that, this doesn’t put me off using BBB, as the general atmoshpere and facilities here are WORTH waiting a few extra seconds for !!
I just post this just as constructive feedback, I hope. πEagle_KiwiMemberThanks for that anyway, Toebee. π (BTW, Nice website you have there, mate!)
Having now at least SPOKEN with PK – and having known others with similar problem in the past – I’m DETERMINED to settle this one!Firstly, I was very surprised to find googling Voice server currently unavailable found NOTHING (and ditto on other good search engines).
I conclude that this is due to this exact wording being new on Yahoo, but I instead found Yahoo Help for a “similar” phrase h e r e (“US”version*).
PK, I’m sure that THAT link must get to the heart of your problem!! As a benchmark (as MY voice chat works fine) I‘ve run their suggested tests as follows:
-1- (Firewall..) – We’ve verified PK has YM set to “no proxies”, so no problem here.
-2- Try this test simply opens a Yahoo page with some technical info – which oddly breaks off mid-sentence, after “…(or other intrusion d ” !!
-3- “telnet vc.yahoo.com 5000” – This instantly pops up window titled “Telnet – vc.yahoo.com” as described, with “Connecting to vc.yahoo.com…” in it. Nothing else happens, and window vanishes after about 30sec.
SO, PK… I know you are excellent at following clear instructions π so try this, and lets see if it’s -2- or -3- where you part company from all us happy voice chatters! π
* Yahoo Help have a similar page here (“AU”version) with just very slightly different wording. I do WISH they would keep their worldwide act together.
Mr Yahoo, please defrag your worldwide websites  !Eagle_KiwiMember(UPDATE….)
I got to TALK – voice – with PK today! π π
He’s now on YM 7 (and XP-Home), where we found the new CALL function works fine for him!
But the (old) Voice Chat (now only available via Voice CONFERENCE) still would not let him enable voice – coming up every time with “VOICE ERROR, Voice server currently unavailable”.He’s tried it with both his firewalls closed… and also tried 2 alternative settings to the standard “NO Proxies” in Preferences/Connections, but all to no avail…
…So far! π
We Will Overcome …. somehow, I hope.Any useful suggestions from anyone else ?
Eagle_KiwiMemberHello there Martin.
Thanks for that – indeed it worked as you outlined.A pity there’s this one exception to my normal rule, which is always PREVIEW my post as a final check – seems that’s impossible for Polls. Oh well….
(BTW, sorry 2 C U got into trouble in another thread, trying to help me out ;))
