you could make it pop up an IM box but i dont know how you would stop it from opening up a blank today window. you would have to close it each time which would suck. but what u can do is change the link to something else.. so when you open the today window, instead of going to the aim site, it goes to some other site.
f0rbezMemberit should be fine to delete those folders after you’ve already uninstalled them. the only thing that should be left in those folders are temporary files or files that were not deleted during uninstall. in most cases those folders will be deleted anyway. as for the files inside the ‘sysfiles’ folder, just make sure that you have everything totally uninstalled first. once your sure that the other crap is gone, then you can go ahead and delete those. none of it is necessary for aim to run properly.
f0rbezMemberThe things you can remove include.. wildtangent, viewpoint media player, and aol on desktop (aod). Right after you install, go into add/remove programs and uninstall wildtangent and viewpoint. then use these instructions to remove aod https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9142
then restart and check for these folders:“c:program filesaod”
“c:program filesviewpoint”
“c:windowswt”also look for a wildtangent folder in program files.. im not sure what its named b/c mine didnt install. you can delete all of those after you uninstalled them.
you can also delete these installation files from “c:program filesaimsysfiles” so that it cant install itself again:
AIMWDInstall.exe
AIMWDUninstall.exe
viewpoint.exebtw, i think viewpoint is possibly part of the ad display system. you know those video/audio ads that they started using.
f0rbezMemberi actually have a program that does this.. but its for some of the older versions of aim and the crap that installs has changed so i dont think it will work anymore.
f0rbezMemberDavid, I’m sure that it has to do with replying to that email. Try it and I bet that your screen name will come as “Internet”
f0rbezMemberCheck if the automatic log in is disabled. Go to the preferences, under Sign On/Off, 4th from the top theres a button “Disable automatic log in to websites…” and make sure that its unchecked. If that doesn’t work than it could be your browser settings.
f0rbezMemberim just curious but did you code that program WhiteMateria? ive seen it before and its a great idea. i dont really go into chats that much so i dont have much of a use for it anymore.
f0rbezMemberare you trying to log on to your screen name using your phone or have your IM’s forwarded to your phone?
f0rbezMembernext time, you should try using the wildtangent uninstall in add/remove programs. this will uninstall it properly and then all you have to do is remove whatever is left over (usually the c:windowswt folder) i think theres even an option in wildtangent so that it doesnt update and doesnt send info to the servers. by the way, ive installed the last few builds of aim and wildtangent hasn’t installed.
ps: AOD (Aol On Desktop) is very annoying but not really harmful. i’m about to post a simple way to uninstall it so that you do not have to remove it manually.
f0rbezMemberit may have been freezing if aim happened to leave the start up keys in the registry. although it probably wouldnt freeze but just tell you that the file was not found. i duno its a possibility though.
f0rbezMembershe didnt download otsego.. she only downloaded the source of a blank ocm file that was posted on the ostego site
f0rbezMemberformatting doesnt work with linked screen names yet. thats the only downside but hopefully they’ll change that. as far as your linked screen names being invisible, the eyeball should be closed on them and you shouldnt be able to see that screen name from other names. however, you will be able to see your own screen name from that current screen name even if its invisible. but others will not see it.
f0rbezMemberhow do you plan to teach classes using msn messenger? what kind of students are we talking about, college? i personally think that anyone who pays to learn course over msn messenger is an idiot. sorry:cool:
f0rbezMemberQuote:quote:is it possible that the trojan hes using wouldn’t be caught unless it’s running?if its a trojan, then it would be running in the background and cause open ports on your computer where it was listening. your firewall definately would of detected this. what exactly makes you think it is a trojan anyway? a slow internet connection could be anything. and the fact that he knew your song could be coincidental. if you want, you could try checking your start up processes for anything that looks suspicious. that might be pretty hard if you dont have that much experience because your not going to know what is normal and whats not. what i would try to do is look in your virus scanner options for “heuristics” and turn it up all the way. that will help find files that may perform virus/trojan like activities but you may get many that aren’t truely “bad”.
f0rbezMemberin addition, if it says “AOL, Internet” or “AOL, Unconfirmed Internet”, then the person is using both AOL and AIM. also, it could say “Mobile Device”, ect. depending on how many different ways the person is signed on.
