Memberif it says “AOL”, then the person is using AOL. if it says “Internet”, then the person is using a service besides AOL (usually AIM) and has confirmed his/her screen name by replying to AOL’s emails. and if it says “Unconfirmed Internet”, then the person is using a service besides AOL (usually AIM) and hasn’t confirmed his/her screen name.

Membermaybe this means aol will start banning/deleting screen names of people who spam… probably not but it would be good. deleting inactive screen names seems like a good idea too. now hopefully, i wont have to spend 15 minutes trying to get screen names that are already taken.

Memberanyone know the changes since the last release? i mean since the last beta version by the way. not just whats posted on aims site
f0rbez
Memberit may be because that version of deadaim doesnt fully support aim 5.2. not sure tho since i havent tested it. im pretty sure that 3.2.8 only supported up to 4.8 though.

MemberQuote:quote:I used it just fine when I’d just been using computers for a week… so hey… can’t be that complicated. User friendly is good, but not when you sacrifice qualityhow exactly did they sacrifice quality compared to icq? also, icq was extremely bloated. i never used icq from the beginning so im not sure if its always been like that. i could barely get the thing running on my old packard bell tho lol.

Membericq was so complicated though, at least i thought. i mean you get assigned a number to identify you. aol just took icq and made it more user friendly with aim.

Memberyou could also edit the registry but only if you know what your doing

I havent used AIM for god knows how long, and I cany believe how ulgy its interface is. With AOL being ‘so big’ you would think they would fork out some extra cash to their design developers. Its a good thing people like october are out there it brighten it up.i personally think aim is the simplest.. none of that pretty looking bullsh.. well except for recently. in the past i liked it because it didnt have the games garbage, any of those stupid little backgrounds, ect but thats changing. when i use an instant messaging client, i want to use it for what it was made for.. sending instant messages, not playing games or talking in chat rooms full of hicks. (lol no offense hicks) i dont really understand why you guys think an instant messaging client has to be pretty. i mean who the hell cares? looking at msn makes me sick. and yahoo isnt so bad except for the enormous ads everywhere. no one i know ever uses webcam features either. what i really think aol should do is make a “lite” client like they did with icq. they can fill the regular one with all the useless features they want, like all the other IM clients. but make the lite version only the essential features like direct connect, possibly talk, etc… that would also probably clear up most of the vulnerabilities in aim as well. most of these booter programs use vulnerabilities based in these useless features anyway.

Memberoh alright didnt know that

Memberthats strange.. i dont know what setting you mean. but aim should at least start up fine, even if it doesnt connect.

Memberthey should have a feature like this within aim. but anyway, the ‘powertoy’ i was referring to is for windows xp. but an older version of it can be found here http://download.com.com/3000-2341-2830963.html?tag=lst-0-1 it says that it works with windows 2000 so you can give it a try. its called tweakui and basically just lets you access settings that you normally may not be able to. im not sure exactly where the settings for programs stealing focus is, but if you look around your sure to find it.

Memberaol used to restrict users to only one screen name logged on at a time for each account… im not sure if they still do this but cloning aol would be pretty useless if they do… unless you wanted to use a friends account at the same time.

Memberjust tried it and it didnt work. im starting to think that its some kind of weird error with my specific email account on their servers. i suggested that to a tech support guy but havent received a reply yet. thanks for the help tho. if you have any other ideas id be glad to try them.
f0rbez
Memberhave you tried reinstalling aim?
f0rbez
Memberi believe theres an option in the powertoys add-on for windows that will let u disable any programs from coming to the front. i use xp and never have them popping up, even without changing anything. what os are u on?
