Can’t wait to try it out again!
Doris KenneyParticipantUnfortunately, it’s not an exact science when it comes to inter-operability. It’s not unusual for a status to be incorrect when comparing Yahoo to WLM. This really has to do with the information that the servers provide to one another and there isn’t any way to fix it. It’s just the nature of having multiple instant messenger programs speaking to one another.
On the brighter side – I’ve generally found that if the person really is online, you can still have a perfectly normal conversation with them. The only difference is the status indicator appears offline.
Doris KenneyParticipantThere really isn’t a one stop for everything.
As far as text based messaging goes, I’d prefer Trillian (and the free version would work just fine), but that won’t help for video as currently (even in the paid version) I believe only Astra and Yahoo are supported. They do plan on adding WLM, etc. in the future.
Digsby is also very good for pulling together multiple accounts from all over the place – at least for text. I’m not sure of the current video capabilities for it. It is a free service so you might give it a try.
Doris KenneyParticipantThanks Jeff! Checking it out now! Already found 375 free songs to listen to in less than 5 minutes. I’m loving how easy it is to add free music. I’ll explore adding my collection tomorrow.
Doris KenneyParticipantWould very much like to try it out if you still have any.
Doris KenneyParticipantHere’s my Google+ profile. I know we are already connected, but since we’re sharing, I thought I’d toss mine out there too.
I have invites left too so if we run short for any reason, just let me know and I’ll toss mine into the ring too.
Doris KenneyParticipantDoris KenneyParticipantWell, it sounds interesting, but since I’m really only on LinkedIn because it’s pretty much “expected” these days, I don’t think I’d really use another even remotely business related social site. For my job – it’s just not needed.
But there are a lot of people who could definitely use a site like this. Especially people in the sales field could find this relieves the need for many of the networking type groups (although I guess they have their place too).
Jeff, keep us up to date on your impressions as it continues to develop!
Doris KenneyParticipantIn theory you are correct. The list “should” be the same on both computers. (Assuming both computers have logged in and out of messenger since the changes were made).
But to be honest, Yahoo is quite buggy at times, so it would be entirely plausible that things might appear differently on different machines. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least – especially if they are running different versions of messenger.
Doris KenneyParticipantWhen you add a contact in Windows Live Messenger it sends them an invite. Connecting it to Facebook simply shows you the people you have on Facebook.
If you want to add a Facebook contact you need to do that through Facebook. Adding a contact in Windows Live Messenger will send an invite to Windows Live Messenger as soon as you add the contact name.
Doris KenneyParticipantYour contact list is now managed through your address book, not from the list you see in Messenger. To delete contacts from your messenger list you’ll need to go to http://address.yahoo.com/ and edit the contact information to remove their messenger address. Then it should sync properly regardless of where you are.
If you delete them from your messenger list only, they will simply repopulate the next time you log in.
Doris KenneyParticipantExcellent! Incidentally, do you prefer to use Tapatalk on your iPad vs. Safari and the full site?
In general I do. It makes seeing the newest posts quick and easy, and it seems faster than Safari (but that could be just my imagination.) With moderation it will be even better – although for one-touch ban etc. I do use the full site (generally on the computer). I rarely/never use Safari to access BBB.
Why couldn’t we cover security?
Well I guess we certainly could if you think it will get some more traffic. It’s certainly a topic applicable to most everyone on some level.
Doris KenneyParticipantYay! Tapatalk loves BBB now!
I’ll think on ideas. My favorite is security, of course, but that’s not what the site is about so….

Doris KenneyParticipantI am alive and reading :). Can you add updating the Tapatalk code to your laundry list of things to do? I get some notification about moderation not being enabled every time I launch it on an iDevice.
Do you have any plans to make any changes to drive more conversation? Now that the spam is gone there seems to be quite a lull in activity 🙁

Doris KenneyParticipantI don’t know how Meebo is interacting with the WLM servers. In the latest version of WLM there is no block list. They are on your list or not. You can appear offline to them but you can’t block them any longer.
But, that is dependent upon using the latest version of WLM. XP doesn’t support the latest version of WLM, so you may be able to access block and delete lists from an XP computer running WLM. You could give it a try – you have nothing to lose. The worst that happens is you find out they are really gone.
You could try contacting Meebo, but I doubt they can do anything because they don’t host your contact list – WLM does. Good luck!
