MemberHi undisputed,
After you installed through the online install. Look in your YM’s installed folder and you should see the “Installs” folder, it is the offline install, you can use it to install YM! again without connecting to the internet.

MemberDear scott,
No it is not possible for the other person to prevent their conversation from being shown in your’s archive as long as you enable archiving. Make sure you have everything checked under Enable archive except delete after xx of days. Make sure when viewing the archives, look for that person’s name on the left pane.

MemberHello panther,
Have your YM 6 to enable Message Archive, it should save your offline messages as well.

MemberHey jenko,
Martin advice is perfectly fine but not wise. Just go to MSN messenger and Yahoo! messenger and go into their preferences and uncheck the box “Automatically Yahoo! Messenger” under “When I start up my computer”. The same rule apply to MSN. Just look around in their options, preferences. Wordings may be different under MSN.

MemberYahoo! Messenger that you downloaded directly from Yahoo is VIRUS-FREE =)
Do not use third-party tools if you are not sure !!!

MemberHi Marina,
The glitch is true. Seems to occur more often in YM 5 than 6 but sometimes in a split second the other person on your contact list can see you online while you log in. And NO, other people cannot read your archives, by normal means.

MemberHey angel1341uk,
Is your problems solved yet? If not, boot your Windows into safe mode and run any up-to-date antivirus and anti-spyware application to get rid of Magic-PS or whatever is infecting your computer. If you think you have a new type (variant) of Magic-PS, please upload it somewhere such as Geocities, zip the file with a password that your sister received and give me the link. I definitely am going to analyze it to update my Antivirus software, (if it is new). Currently my software is not publicly release yet…in case you ask for a copy.

MemberHey max,
Are you running ZoneAlarm Pro? or the free version? Make sure the “Cookie Control” in the “Privacy” section are set to “Medium” and NOT “Off”. Also it looks like you got adware/spyware problems. Use Ad-aware, Spy-bot and Spy Sweeper with the most recent updates and do a full scan of your computer and NEVER forget to do a virus-scan also.

Member=) Uhm, everything seems covered here, hihi, no more to add except to Blahblah is whether your Norton Firewall asked you about letting some unknown program access the Internet? If not, or you prevented that, probably your important data is safe and the hacker DO NOT have access to your files. Next time be more careful and put your important data in another partition and encrypt it.

MemberHello Ice,
If you leave your computer on for too long, yes it is possible for hackers to invade your computer, but I don’t think they will spent times to hack your computer unless your friends is a hacker or have an objective.
The two best FREE firewalls software are ZoneAlarm and Sygate.
Don’t bother with changing your IP address, get a firewall instead. Doing a ipconfig /release /renew 80% of the time will just get your old IP address back. USELESS !!!

MemberMalicious hackers recently began seeding Internet news groups that traffic in pornography with JPEG images that take advantage of a security hole in Microsoft’s software. Users who unwittingly downloaded the poison images could have had remote-control software installed on their computers that gives remote attackers total control over the machines.
Microsoft, which deemed the flaw “critical,” identified and patched the hole on September 14, but PC users who have not yet downloaded or installed the patch remain vulnerable.
Like other exploits that appeared in the weeks since Microsoft released its patch, the so-called JPEG of Death uses a JPEG file that’s formatted to trigger an overflow in a common Windows component called the GDI+ JPEG decoder, which is used by Windows, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and many other Windows applications. When users open the image, the infected JPEG tries to install a copy of Radmin, a legitimate software application that allows users to control their computers remotely. In this recent case, however, the program was used by a remote attacker to control the user’s PC.
Corrupt JPEG images, whether pornographic or otherwise, are visually indistinguishable from other images. Most only work on Windows XP (news – web sites) machines, and some of the attack features do not appear to work on all XP machines.
Currently, most major antivirus software programs can spot corrupted JPEG images. Antivirus software and the Windows patch are the best protection from attacks that use the GDI+ vulnerability.
Experts say the attack images in question cannot spread and are not, technically, viruses. However, the exploit code could easily be modified to download a virus engine with e-mail capability that would spread when images are opened.
As with Sasser and other recent worms that target common Windows components, security experts worry that the JPEG vulnerability in GDI+ could spawn another major worm outbreak. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable and can be accessed through a long list of popular Windows applications. What’s more, different Windows applications frequently distribute their own versions of GDI+. Those versions might reside in folders used by the applications and may be out of reach of the Windows patch, or could be installed after the Microsoft patch was applied, effectively undoing that patch.

I also developed “QTAV2005” which is a program that quickly scans and fixes your computer from malware. Currently I only release it to the Vietnamese community and friends/family. It will be release to the public when I solved the problem with piracy.

Thanks for your comments last night after reading them it occured to me that I had up dated my messager a few days before, so I have restarted my comp to before the upgrade and no probs again. I will email yahoo about it.
Many thanks for your help
SarahHi Sarahtowny,
Reverting to an older version before the upgrade is just a temporary fix. I do not think that is the source of the problem. You shouldn’t get booted off Y!M for using the updated version.

Programs that is running in the background might be the cause of unwanted effects on the computer (intentionally or unintentionally) such as a virus, spyware, etc.

MemberHi Samlewis,
What is your computer’s specs? Have you try to scan for viruses, and spywares? What is your internet connection? It shouldn’t be a problem because Yahoo Messenger do refreshes your buddy list once a while. It might be your computer or connection is slow that allows you to see the refresh changes.

MemberHey sarahtowny,
Have you updated your Norton Antivirus 2005 and AVG before you scan your computer? Have you try to use Ad-aware, SpyBot Search and Destroy with them updated of course. If all that still doesn’t help, please go to “Start” => “Run”. Type in “msconfig”. “Startup” tab. Post all your “Startup Items” here.
