MemberOutgrow it? Let’s hope so!
I think that most chat room fights start because some insecure, underaged, bundle of hormones needs to feel self-important and the only way he knows how is by insulting others and inflating his importance in his own mind.
The funny thing is, they are usually oblivious to the fact of their own inadequacies. Makes for some mildly entertaining chats.

MemberLooks like you accidently hit the “new poll” button when you meant to use the “new topic” button.

What new smileys are you talking about? Yahoo hasn’t added any new smileys in a year! Can you describe them?

Internet radio was dealt a serious blow by the RIAA … Live 365 now retroactively owes $2,000,000 and is expected to pay out over $200,000 per month in royalties. This is for all practical purposes killing most internet radio DJ’s ( I know MANY). The royalty rate imposed was 7 cents per 1000 listens …..That sucks big time! Internet radio rocks! It’s nice to be able to hear something besides the run-of-the-mill crap that the ratings hungry radio stations play.

MemberQuote:quote:it is amusing to me though how many people who are pro P2P sharing refuse to acknowledge the copywrite infringement. Like I said … it is a genie out of the bottle … but I have seen the damage it IS causing th music industry first hand. And not just the MAJOR LABELS … it is hurting the independent artists as well because Lables are less likely to take any chances now due to the ever decreasing margins.I don’t think those of us who share files refuse to acknowledge the copywrite infringement. I just don’t think we care! I buy the stuff i really care about, but not the dogs. And I don’t buy the argument that the recording industry is losing money… they’re making more than ever! And MP3s make it possible for me to hear bands I would never have heard otherwise, because they don’t get airplay.

MemberThere are add-ons that let you do that kinda trick, but before you run off looking for them, beware! Many people like to use login alerts, and end up blocking their friends who use these tools because they can get annoying really fast.

ive been spamed by yahoo in chat rooms only, chicks wanting me to go to their web sytes to see them nude heheI don’t meant to burst your bubble, but those aren’t chicks who “want you”…. they’re pornographers pretending to be chicks. They’re trying to get you to come to their site, lie about your age, and eventually use mom & dad’s credit card to signup for more porn.

MemberWhy keep the PM Pager? I’ll jump in and take a stab at this, and let Jeff correct me if I’m wrong.
First, he did say that it’s “not all that bad.” I think he understated how useful it is. I’ve used it, and I’ll continue to use it. Everyone here uses different messaging systems and the private messaging here is a way to send and receive messages that are with a specific group of people. Most of the people here are not on my buddy list. That’s not because I’m anti-social, it’s just because I prefer to keep my buddy list lean.
In addtion, when I send or receive PMs here, I already “know” the other person somewhat. I know that he or she is a fellow member at BigBlueBall, which implies a higer level of interest in instant messaging, etc. In other words, they’re not just some cyberspace wacko randomly messaging me.
Finally, those other options (Odigo, Jabber, etc.) cost $$$. BigBlueBall is not a big company with deep pockets, it’s a dude with a hobby. Last time I asked him he was still spending more on the site than he ever made on it. Besides, even if he was to license and implement Odigo or Jabber, how many people would bother downloading yet another instant messenger?

MemberI don’t have experience with either of those. NOWencoder looks like another Spotlife or WebcamNow site (you can’t integrate on your web site). VisionGS is a commercial app, and there’s not a lot of documentation for it. Looks like a one-man project.
Of course, you could use Windows Media Encoder for free. That can be embedded in any web page.

MemberLive streams are a bit of a trick, mainly because your PC acts as a server. If you’re behind a NAT/router, many of the streaming programs won’t work (unless you fuss with the port filters to allow inbound requests).
Spotlife used to have a free service, then they went to a pay model.
WebCamNow has a free service, but it doesn’t integrate with your website.
Inetcam has a program called iVista that will do what you want, but it’s a commercial program (there is a demo available).
Camarades has a program that I think will let you put streaming video on your own web page, but I haven’t tried it.
Check the webcam section of the BigBlueBall links directory for more.

MemberI checked out opera a looooong time ago, but I’ve gotta ask: why bother? I mean, unless you’ve tired of filling the pockets of Microsoft and AOL (who owns Netscape)? Oh yeah, they don’t charge anything for their browsers, and Opera does?
Sign me up!!! (not!)
