MemberThe best way to inform a user they are being inappropriate (either abusive, stupid, or posting wrong information) is to tell them privately. Otherwise what happens is a thread gets taken over with arguments about who is wrong, and poor Mr X who needed help unknowingly started an argument.
If people resepected others, and didn’t judge on any grounds, this thread wouldn’t even exist. But as the world consists of different types of people, so does everything in it, including every forum on the net!

MemberThere is a Geocities Chat room on Yahoo!.
When in a Yahoo! room type /join geocities help chat
There is also a webdesign room, type /join webdesign
If you have frontpage or frontpage express, you may find those programs easier for designing your site, and then uploading using the file manager. None of them produce excellent HTML code, but with frontpage and frontpage express you can design pages offline and upload later.

MemberMaybe try Trillian or Mirana. Both support Yahoo! Instant Messaging, not chat though.
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/trillian/index.html – free and pro version available.
http://www.miranda-im.org/ – you would need to find the Yahoo! plugin on the same site for this.

MemberI believe this is so, although i’ve never had one or used one myself. It’s also possible for people to view anonymous, but you are, of course, asked if this is ok first. I’m not even sure how they work, guess it’s another error on Yahoo!’s part.
If you are worried about what people are going to do, perhaps use two IDs, one of them in DHTML chat or something that no one knows, and use it for chatting, and the unknown one in messenger for cam broadcasting. That way you can talk to someone, once you know they are ok, tell them to view the cam ID, leaving your main ID you use in a chat room without cam, and less chance someone trying to view you.

MemberI forgot YahELite had chat2.0 😮
But yes, you can also use it with an IM application. This is because this is another browser based protocol.
Chat2.0 is a new protocol, for the DHTML browser client. It’s a weaker login than YMSG but stronger than YCHT. The PMs on CHAT2.0 are usually broken. But it has features like the YMSG protocol, the user information is sent when a user joins chat, it has nicknames, and works in a similar manner to that of YMSG. YCHT is an older protocol, often slow and not really a rush to fix it when something goes wrong. YCHT you can use capitals in your name should you wish.

MemberPeople often get offended, in my experience, when another person offers different help to the same problem.
I can see where the feelings come from, but its advantageous to the user seeking help, because they have a few different ways to try and do something, and most probably will remember at least one of them. They can also choose which is most comfortable for them.
Not everyone gives great advice, because they are not as technically minded as others perhaps, but as long as it’s made clear its a guess, people should accept they are trying, and not complain. The same way that if someone comes and says, no that’s wrong, they accept they was wrong and learn from it; obviously trouble starts when both parties believe they are the correct one.
In my experience those who are not very helpful, have huge post counts, because they just post where they can to boost it, because some people boast about their post count. Helpful users are in the middle usually. People who are just seeking help, are at the low end.

MemberI would still say this is what’s happening.
You might try and play with those settings though, it might stop the p2p transactions occuring.
Yes, look at the settings for messenger, it’s probably been given client rights only, and not server, it will need this for any p2p activity. The port range is 5000 to about 6000 I think, can’t remember off hand.
freddy
MemberIt is the case that you may chat in YahELite under the YCHT protocol, and use messenger on the same ID for IM, because it works in the YMSG protocol. This is because in the old days, Yahoo! Messenger didn’t have a chat client built in, so you could use both at once.
If you have switched the protocol on YahELite to YMSG you will be disconnected on one of them. On YahELite’s second login screen, check the protocol.

MemberIf they are on your friends list and you are on their friends list, this could happen.
Yahoo! puts you into peer 2 peer mode, meaning your messages no longer go through Yahoo!, but direct to each other instead. If norton rejects it, Yahoo! Messenger should tell the Yahoo! server p2p was declined, but doesn’t look like it’s doing this.
Let Yahoo! Messenger have server access in Norton Firewall. When prompted for access and your IMing, allow access.
Freddy.

MemberNo. You can only make your room private to stop them.

MemberYahoo! has its very own web messager that runs on Java/DHTML!
http://messenger.yahoo.com select web messenger beta from the left.
What you are describing sounds normal to Yahoo!’s recent problems with lag, some posts are taking 2 or more minutes to materialise to the rest of the users in a chat room and PMs etc… You get no posts for a while, then 15 all appear at once. But if this happens a lot for you, could be your connection.
You might try no network detection instead of the other settings. This sometimes works for people. login, preferences, connection then check no network detection. This just forgets about the firewall etc…
I’ve heard from other people that Yahoo! doesn’t always work properly through a proxy.

Memberhey, it’s really not difficult at all.
Editing the registry is only dangerous when people just can’t help but randomly start deleting keys lol
If you do as the instructions say it’s fine!
And once you’ve done it once, you wont be afraid to do it again, and the registry has a lot of things to offer in terms of customising programs. http://www.regedit.com (part of winguides) is a great site of tricks.
There is a registry editing tutorial here http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/regedit.php (in my new look, clearer site!) but its not aimed at removing custom messages, but does have backup info.
That program above does it all for you, a friend wrote it based on some info I gave him about the registry keys.

MemberWell said Johnson.
Xteria:
What this trick does is that users who have you on their lists, will see your name underlined in the buddy list, it doesn’t work in chat.
This works because pressing ctrl+enter in some windows controls creates a new line. So what happens is your status appears on a new line, because you started it off with a new line, and hence the ¯ symbol appears as though its underlining your name.

MemberI wrote a webpage discussing thise here: http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/ipaddress.php
But to summarise:
Sometimes Yahoo! goes into peer 2 peer activity, i.e. a direct connection is made between you and recipient, this happens when:
You use cam, imvironments, file share
and when you IM someone on your buddy list. The server sends both of you a packet with each others IP address in, so the Yahoo! Messenger knows to start p2p, and a connection is made.
You can view connected ports and addresses through the netstat command, goto start, run type command.com (or cmd on NT and XP) and in the window, type netstat -a. Look for ports in the 5000 area.

MemberYou probably got banned for some reason. Often it’s an error rather than you did something you shouldn’t have done, but abuse and/or inappropriate spamming can earn you bans of various lenghts.
Often you are locked out for security reasons, this means that someone tried to crack your account, made a huge number of attempts to gain access, and to stop them from succeeding, yahoo! locked the account. This is in case the succeed and proceed to lift account details you have entered like zip code, address, email etc…
It is often the case these bans last longer if you keep trying to log in on them, although this is the only way to determine if they have been re activated.
You might try e-mailing chat-help@yahoo-inc.com or cc-advoc@yahoo-inc.com with the details, just send the user ID, not the password.
