MemberIf you could provide more information as to exactly what the error message was that would be more helpful.

MemberNice.. I like how Admin’s remove what people say because they simply disagree or have a difference of opinion. You believe what I said was inneficient because to you it doesn’t make sense to have 2 pc’s for two different operating systems. All a matter of opinion. It would do her world of wonders because then she could have the best of both worlds. Maybe not in your opinion… but answer this question… would she have a problem if she had 2 pc’s with the two operating systems she wants to use for two different purposes? I think not. Some free speach forum more like a dictatorship. I wouldn’t be surprised if you delete this one too.
DJHyperbyte wrote:SubStream, I appreciate your attempt to answer sarahtowny’s question, however advising her to buy a second PC and to install Linux as a desktop system is not going to do her any good. Please try to provide efficient solutions.SubStream
MemberYahoo allows anyone to see if anyone else is online. The only way to avoid this is to go to http://chat.yahoo.com and click on edit profiles and check the box that says “hide my online status” If you do not do this then it will be widely available to anyone by going to http://opi.yahoo.com/online?u=USERNAMEHERE
Put the username where it says “usernamehere” and it will show either an online or offline status indicator. It is legal. It is available. It breaks no laws. It has possitive uses such as knowing when someone who stalks you is on or offline. I do not advocate nor do I condone any illegal or innapropriate behavior. I simply feel it is a good program because it allows a person who is being stalked to at least check (in most cases) whether or not a person who is stalking them is online. In this case they can avoid or know to keep their guard up if they choose to chat. It is not wrong and that is only your opinion. All it does it is transfer http://opi.yahoo.com/online?u=USERNAMEHERE to your messenger. Not illegal. Not wrong. Good programs can be put to bad use, but it is not the program that is bad. People can use programs in a bad way-but that does not make it a bad or wrong program. Yahoo has not tried patching it because public view of online status is a persons choice.SubStream
Member#1. I never said it didn’t find it i said it failed them… meaning it didn’t do what needed to be done-delete the file
#2 I didn’t say everyone needs to know everything about IT
#3 Once an anti-virus has been allowed to run, it is possible for the system files to be compromised and there is no full proof way to find every virus and get rid of all of it’s components. Some viruses are invisible to housecall and other online scanners and there is no full proof virus protection or virus remover that removes every single virus in existence. If that was the case then protecting a computer against hackers would be easy. It is SAFER to assume that the person & or program and the virus that infected you is very dangerous than it is to assume a scan or software program will protect you or ensure your protection. The fact of the matter is that some viruses cannot be removed and do more damage as time goes by. The longer you assume you are safe the more damage may possibly occur with certain viruses. Denying that fact would be ignorant.

MemberWhoever told that person to download Y! Tunnel obviously hasn’t realized that most people have booters that get through Y! Tunnel seeing as how Chet simpson (who i am no fan of) stopped updating his program a while ago… and besides that … why use Y! Tunnel when you can just not use messenger for chat at all? How bout u use messenger for your buddy list, and another program to chat with under a completely separate Yahoo! account? Then they can’t boot you off mesenger cause they won’t know what name you’re on it with.
Go to http://www.yahelite.org and download YahElite which is a program that filters out spam and boot codes. It runs faster, it’s easy to use, and you don’t get booted logging into the YCHT protocol on it. If you have trouble installing it simply post back and I will help you out… its quite easy…

MemberEssentially anyone you have been in voice in a PM with could have hacked or helped to hack you. All a person needs to infect you with a trojan is your IP and that becomes readily available upon activation of voice in a PM. I avoid all void PM’s and do not accept files from anyone. I advise you to do the same for now on. Also make sure ur system is clean and if you can’t be sure it is then reformat. Make sure your password contains uppcase and lowercase letters as well as numbers and symbols. Some people may info crack your account using the information you listed such as your birthday, zip code, country, and secret answer. Make your country outside of the continent in which you live, and you will surely then be able to make any zip code combination you would like.
Example: Country Turky Zip Code: any25combination
Write all account information down and keep it in a safe place. Do not share personal information with anyone. Free anti virus and firewalls include VCatch and ZoneAlarm among my favorite free services. Hope this helped

MemberYahoo! isn’t going to release that kind of information to anyone in my opinion… I think all the chain PM’s and e-mails are rubbish and should be seen as such. Everytime someone says yahoo is going to charge or shut down it never happens and I do not believe it is going to ever happen… without free chat yahoo loses millions of dollars in advertisement because so few people would still be on Yahoo!
Disreguard all rumors… they are only that.. rumors..

MemberFirst: Report all threats to yahoo abuse by going to http://abuse.yahoo.com
Second: If your account is locked, you have a few options.
option#1: try to unlock the account yourself. Go to http://login.korea.yahoo.com and log in your account. If you get to a page to copy the info over the servers go ahead and click on copy. Then try logging in chat again. You can also go to lost/forgot password. Make sure your alternate email is set and verified in the account information page first. Go to http://login.yahoo.com and click on Lost/Forgot password. Put in the appriate account information. You can either have the account displayed on screen or emailed to you. By doing this, usually Yahoo! unlocks your account. General account lockers try to log your name in multiple times on the same server or many servers to make it appear to be as though a hacker is after your account. This causes yahoo to lock it in order to prevent further attempts. By verifying your account information and changing the password that way, you are showing Yahoo! that you are in fact the real owner and generally it unlocks the account. There are other ways of unlocking it on your own, but those require some sort of reimbursement for that knowledge. If you just read all of that and don’t understand a damn word I said… you can go to http://login.yahoo.com/config/login?&.done=http%3A%2F%2Fadd2%2Edir%2Escd%2Eyahoo%2Ecom%2Ffast%2Fhelp%2Fus%2Fchat%2Fcgi_feedback and send in a request for your account to be unlocked. Make sure you put the subject line as Other or they may just send you an automated response. If you would like to look for the request form on your own then you can search through the pages at http://help.yahoo.com

MemberThere is a program specifically designed to remove this trojan, however, because I do not post my personal website on here, I would suggest you reformat your computer. If you would like help you can message back on here and I would show you how to remove it and talk in chat about how to remove it… but depending on what options they used while making the trojan, it may have mutiple parts to it.
Magic PS 1.5se is a fairly easy pw stealer to use and requires no skill to operate. Infection can be prevented by downloading VCatch which runs with less memory than AVG. Also, do not download any files from anyone unless you believe beyond a resonable doubt that you know them. I do not accept files from anyone unless I know them in person. If you like AVG better however (both get the job done) then you can stick with that.
If you need further help on this issue please reply.

MemberI say reformat. You can never trust your system after an anti-virus fails to take care of the problem… or at least I don’t… Once the system is infected and you know your anti-virus failed you… you could essentially be doomed to key loggers that are hidden beyond your ability to find them… I suggest you reformat and get a much greater knowledge on IT…

MemberMy advice is that you first buy a second computer. Computer #1 is for all internet browsing and chat etc. Computer #2 is for all of your windows only applications and games that don’t run on Unix or Linux.
With your current computer, you can switch to Linux first to get used to it. WINE is free to my knowledge and so is KDE (http://www.kde.org/) I prefer KDE because it already comes with a suite of programs so I don’t have to use my windows operating system unless I am going to play a game or type out a seriously long important document.
After you learn how to use Linux and WINE or KDE then I would recommend switching to OpenBSD (http://www.openbsd.org/) or at the very least FreeBSD (http://www.freebsd.org/). Both BSD Unix based programs are completely free and KDE is compatible with both of them. The newest version of WINE is only compatible with Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. I do not know if there is a free version of Linux. If you wanted to you could always brave the trip straight over to a BSD system, but that would be more difficult. BSD is more difficult to learn, but it is much safer than Linux and gets less negative CERT reports anually. OpenBSD is more secure than FreeBSD in my opinion. Also, with KDE you have the option of booting directly up into the windows type interface that KDE offers. Hope this has helped you.SubStream
