TigerbladeParticipant
it wouldnt be illegal to get the old version of deadaim, since it is and was free to start with. no matter where you GOT the program from, it was still free. dont worry about it – although there are some people who have a problem with file sharing networks… but screw them i say
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Thank God.yeah but now we have to REINSTALL AIM, again, along with all our settings, like away messages… GRRR why cant they just fix the bugs already… i cant wait to find out what NEW bugs this version will have
TigerbladeParticipantsend a message back saying something to the effect of “Sorry, but this email address has been discontinued by the user. Please remove this email address from your address list. Thank you.” The key is to make it sound official, like its coming from the system administrator and not from you. that way you can keep the email active, just make them think its not. i used this on a few emails i had that i stopped using, but didnt want to (or couldnt) cancel altogether.
otherwise, if you want to scare them, make up something else, like maybe “Attention : This user has contacted the Yahoo email administrator with a complaint about malicious and/or unsolicited email abuse. Please discontinue this abuse immediately, or action will be taken by the administrators. Thank you.”
hope that helps
TigerbladeParticipantmet a girlfriend (well, ex-gf now) online, went out for two months… turned out pretty well all in all
TigerbladeParticipantactually – i met one of my girlfriends online, through a friend… we got to talking and a few weeks later i asked her out – we hadnt met face to face yet… that was a few days later. we went out for about two months, although i kinda regret it not being longer than that
TigerbladeParticipantyeah i’ve said stuff online that i’d never say to the person’s face… its just easier when you can be all pissed off and still tell someone exactly what you’re thinking, cause a lot of times you chicken out when it comes to actually telling someone off
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Ok, we go there and stuff but do we have to put our profile in there instead of the AIM one or what do we do to that file before we go back and make our AIM profile longer?after you edit the HTML file, you have to go back to the “Edit Profile” screen, just click through the screens, dont change anything, then click FINISH. now the profile will reflect your changes. i find its easier to edit out the unnecessary HTML commands (of course, this only works if you know HTML) like extra FONT tags and whatnot…
TigerbladeParticipanti was gonna mention the mirrored ceiling thing, but someguy beat me to it… i thought it was such a good idea… well… i started collecting the cds – target has them sitting out for free, so every time i happen to be in target – i grab a handful. if i can get enough, i’ll do the ceiling thing, otherwise i’ll just make a mirror thing on my desk or my loftbed or something
TigerbladeParticipantwhat i’m wondering is if there’s some program out there, similar to trillian, but that works more like DeadAIM. Here’s what i want, let me know of any programs you might know of that fit the bill::confused:
1. Blends multiple IM programs, namely MSN and AIM.
2. Combines chat boxes into one tabbed interface, like DeadAIM.
3. Still allows Away Messages, simple and easy. *EDIT: also must display OTHER PEOPLE’s away messages!!
4. Easy to manage merged contact list.
5. Decent looking – I dont need all the bells and whistles, i’d prefer to see whats going on with my chat window and contact list.
6. FREE*******
By request, here’s the edit-
I’ve used, and didnt like, Trillian, Miranda, and GoodAIM. For various reasons, each just didnt quite cut it, whether it be the look, the features, etc… so far miranda is my least favorite. I’m in the process of trying out GAIM, so i’ll let you know how that turns out…TigerbladeParticipantyeah that font bug is really annoying – its fixed in the 3290 update, but at the expense of another bug… the away message comes up as “Autoresponse from %s” with a %s instead of your screenname – check out the thread here – https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5313
TigerbladeParticipantat least i know it wasnt just me… *sigh of relief* i had the same thing happen, i was hoping it wasnt a problem on my end only
TigerbladeParticipanti think if aim should include any of the DeadAIM features, the two that should most definitely be used are the popup notification boxes (ie, “AIMuser123 has just signed on.”) and the tabbed window interface. those are the two most useful features of DeadAIM, in my opinion. But realistically, AIM is free, so we have no say whatsoever in what they do or dont do for AIM, and they have no real incentive to change or fix anything.
sucks to be us i guess
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:”I had to modify many things to keep Aim secure enough for me to feel good about using.”just out of curiosity, what did you “modify”? – i’d be interested to know, i’d like to keep my computer and AIM as secure as possible, since i’ll be living in a dorm, meaning everybody is everywhere
TigerbladeParticipanti dont know if these programs will do that or not, the descriptions arent very specific, but its worth a try if you really absolutely NEED to change the colors (although i cant think of why you’d really absolutely NEED to do that) – go to http://www.aimthings.com/aimfiles.htm and scroll down for “Apple Sause” (no i didnt misspell it) or “Color Rocker XP” (if you have WinXP of course)
TigerbladeParticipantyeah thats what i figured the answer would be… argh… oh well…
