ParticipantWell, let’s find out! * goes to google maps, types in “toronto” and clicks “search” *
looks like it is.
Tigerblade
ParticipantMost only effect old people.
HA! Burrrrrrn… oh wait. That was at me. Hmm. No fair! I’m definitely not “old” – I’m barely into my quarter-life crisis.
Though, I noticed the lens-flare thing a lot more because someone had mentioned it to me before I saw the movie. So maybe that’s the reason.
And the plot being contrived… less the story arc/character development part than the premise it was all founded on. I won’t say more than that to avoid spoiling anything. Any movie based on that premise gets a little iffy.

ParticipantI dunno, $2 on an $8 bill is a pretty decent tip (25%). How much I tip depends on what the service is, and how good it is. Just being my server does not automatically entitle them to a tip – it needs to be earned.
If the server just did their job and that’s it, 10-15%. If they were exceptionally helpful/friendly/timely, I’ll increase the tip accordingly. Same if they were actively unhelpful/rude – I have no problem with leaving no tip if you were a jerk.

ParticipantYeah, the special effects in Wolverine were a little hit-or-miss. There were some scenes where the effects were awesome. Then there were some that looked like they were running out of time to get the CG done and just threw something together over their lunch hour.
Meh. I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my DVD collection when it comes out.

ParticipantA lot of my friends were confused because they never saw Star Trek in their life
That’s one of those things that has always confused me. I know a few people who have never seen a single Star Trek episode or movie, have never seen a Star Wars movie (any of them), etc. I mean, I get that not everyone is into movies like I am, but… isn’t that part of just growing up? Part of the American cultural experience (maybe for other countries too, but I can’t speak for anything other than America)?
As for the movie… I thought it was okay. Great action sequences, pretty good writing, but… the plot was a little contrived for my tastes.
Also, does JJ Abrams have some sort of fetish for lens flares? Geez.
Tigerblade
ParticipantMeh.. it sounded OK at the beginning but about two minutes in I got bored.
Then skip to the last two-three minutes instead.

ParticipantCould just mean they don’t have a computer at home, and use one at work or the library, etc. Or they only have an iPhone, etc. Not impossible. Unlikely, though, at least that last one – if you have an iPhone, chances are pretty good you’ve got at least one other rig somewhere.

ParticipantCurrently: Saru – The Long Goodbye… and pretty much everything else I can find by Saru or similar artists. Love the semi-mechanical ambient stuff.

Participantif you really don’t get it… see the spoiler below.
look at the cards you can choose from originally.
write them down if you have to.
then click to the next screen.
write them down too.
now compare the two lists.
NONE of the cards from the first screen are still there –
you just see similar cards, and are looking for your
ONE card and obviously don’t find it.Also, the “spoiler” field doesn’t seem to wrap long lines… which breaks the layout. D’oh!

ParticipantI’ve got a laptop for home use, and really cannot imagine going back to a desktop as my primary machine. I bought the laptop when I was in college, because I needed to be able to take it to class, to the library, etc.
The portability factor (to me) outweighs the performance/maintenance issues. And notebooks aren’t really all that far behind desktops in terms of performance. I actually tried pricing out my ideal next laptop, and even topping it out it costs way less than I paid for this current machine.
I have to use a desktop at work, but not for much longer… I’m finally getting upgraded to a laptop. Score!
Tigerblade
ParticipantOh, wow, so unbelievable. Gee, how could it know?
*rolls eyes*
Tigerblade
ParticipantI have “Tell No One” in my Netflix instant queue as well… looking forward to seeing it. Sounds a bit like The Fugitive, no?
Tigerblade
ParticipantBTW, some of those on your list aren’t movies.
No, but they’re complete TV seasons, so I count them as one movie. It’s part of a movie-watching/reviewing challenge I’m taking part in – single episodes don’t count, but an entire season does, whether it’s watched over the course of the regular on-air season or all-at-once (like a box set or via Netflix).
By the way, welcome to BBB!

ParticipantI keep a running list of what movies I’ve seen and when… so far I’m up to 52 for the year.
Most recently… “Bolt” (one of those movies that makes you go “awww”) and “Superman: Doomsday” which was pretty lame, actually.
Tigerblade
ParticipantIf the aliens want our brains… they’re going to get them any way they can. I figure I may as well let it happen while watching TV anyway. Probably more enjoyable than the whole lift-me-screaming-by-lightbeam-into-space route.
