Memberuh… I know about that feature already. my main thing is that I want to also be able to block people on my buddy list at the same time. right now, if I have that feature turned on and I try to block someone on my buddy list, I have to delete. I don’t want to delete them… just block.

MemberI’m running AIM v5.2.3292 and DeadAIM v4.1. I downloaded Instant Idler for AIM 5.2, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I put it in the same folder as aim.exe, and when I run it, it says that I’m now idle, but it doesn’t actually do anything. I put myself on my buddylist to check, and my screen name doesn’t dim.

MemberIf you go to your preferences in AIM, under Buddy List there is a series of check boxes. The one that says Dim buddies after they have been idle for ___ minutes. You can input any number you wish there. So, you can have 10 minutes. However, I would venture to say that practically no one bothers to change the default of 20 minutes.
It does go idle, but it hasn’t reached the threshold for the screen name to dim. If you take a look at some friends’ information (hover your cursor over their name) you’ll see different stats like online time and idle time. It will count the idle time even if its only 1-2 minutes, but like I mentioned before. Their screen names won’t dim until it’s reached that threshold of usually 20 minutes. The same applies for you.

MemberI use it because all of my friends use it. I had installed MSN Messenger a long time ago, but only 1-2 friends used it so I just deleted it after a while. The same goes for Yahoo Instant Messenger.

Ah… thank you. This topic was from long, long ago. The imForwards thing worked for a little while, on and off, but it was a hassle. It would kick me offline when I signed onto my AIM from home, and would only work sporadically. I also didn’t like the idea of my having to give them my password. I have since turned it off. The IM forwarding service from AIM finally worked for me, and I used that for a little while, and have also since turned that off. Too many people IMing — went over the text message storage so fast.

How come all you people get spammed, porn bots, etc. via AIM? I never get it, not that I want to either. But, why? What is it that you are doing wrong? 😀 Do you visit chatrooms and stuff alot? Is that why?

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by DavidABlock everyone on your buddy list? that’s not practical…but I guess could work.
If you have DeadAIMv4 – you can type messages and chat while your away message is on, thus most people will think your away, but your not really away…Not quite invisible, but still worth a try.
Yeah blocking everyone isn’t practical at all, but I can’t think of any other way to get an “invisible mode”. You would just unblock the people that you want to chat with….
I tried the messaging while away option. It works, but everytime my friends send me a message, the away message inserts itself. This is normal right? It’s annoying though, so I turned off the option after a 4-5 messages.

MemberI would definitely be careful. Just because you can access the Internet (or WAP) via your cell phone doesn’t mean that it is free. You may have just started the internet-access on your phone when you enabled AIM Mobile. I would wait to see your next phone bill before you go crazy accessing games and webpages. I’m 99% sure you will be charged. Nothing is free.

MemberI think you misunderstood me. You create a new screen name that only you know about. You can still keep your old screen name. If people don’t know about your new screen name, they won’t add you to their buddy list, but you can add them to your buddy list and they won’t know. That way, you can “spy” on them under your new screen name, and chat with the ones you want to under your old screen name. Did that make sense?
tontamoo
MemberWhy don’t you create a screen name that no one knows about. Then save and load your buddy list from your original screen name. If you have a program like DeadAIM, you can clone AIM. So….
Block everyone in your original screen name. Clone AIM. Sign onto your new screen name and check to see who is online. Then unblock the people you want to talk to on your original screen name.
I guess it’s complicated, but that’s the only way I think it can work….

MemberThank you for all your help someguy03. I don’t see why people are having such a hard time turning the IM forwarding service on and off. I have no trouble at all. Currently, imforwards.com’s service seems to be working finally, although the service is still sketchy. It seems to log on periodically, even kicking me off once, but it does forward IMs to my cell phone. I guess it will do for now.
*Btw, I think the imforwards.com is better because I can leave an away message explaining what the service does, how I can’t reply right away, etc.
Thanks again.

Membersigh. I think I should just give up on this entire IM forwarding thing. I wanted to set up IM forwarding so I don’t have to log onto mMode (thus, saving money). The imforwards.com worked again for a split second, and now it is gone again. So frustrating.

MemberI know my cell phone supports AIM. I have mMode and AIM on it. It is a Siemens C56 with AT&T Wireless service. I dunno what I’m doing incorrectly.
