try to be more specific… we can help you more accurately if we know more information. what operating systems are you on? what kind of internet connection? it could just be a temporary problem with the AIM servers, it could be something with your password… etc etc. maybe try to use AIM Express from AIM.com and see if that works for you, at least for the meantime
edit: changed url to point directly to AIM Express

how do you add downloads to your site?just add a link to the file – copy this text to your site’s HTML and change the link to point to your file… (of course you obviously have to have it uploaded to your server). the download will open in a new window, then revert to the standard file download dialog box.
<a href="full url of your file goes here” target=”_blank”>Descriptive text here
TigerbladeParticipantbeing offline helps it drop faster than when you’re online, or at least it seems that way – i’ve never actually timed it, but thats my experience…
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by Beetle1283Well I have no problem removing it, but my concern is whether or not if I need this program or a program like it. If I don’t need it, I can delete it, but if I need it, I need to know of another program that is like it.
well man, i have XP home edition and the nVIDIA driver thing on my computer… i have it disabled. basically all its for is if you want to have multiple monitors connected to one computer. other than that, it does allow for a few options that frankly, no one needs. so really you could most likely just remove that program. i’d just check with HP to see if it would affect the way your computer starts, but it shouldnt cause a problem.
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by JeffBy default, when you update AIM, it replaces your current version. You might be able to install it in a different directory and switch between the two versions, but I haven’t tested that.
i think you can, because somehow i managed to install a different version of aim into a different folder (on the same drive, but different folder) by accident. i couldnt figure out why aim kept changing, because apparently i had the desktop icon pointing to one version, and the quicklaunch icon pointing to the other… yeah i still dont know how i missed it for so long…
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by DavidI believe that that link is a DeadAIM ad-on. Try looking in the DeadAIM DLLs. I don’t recall seeing it there before I had DeadAIMv4.0.
Hope that helps…
i dont think its only from DeadAIM 4.0, cause i have 3.2.1 (with AIM 5.2.3292) and i have that option available to “edit away messages”, either from the menu listing or when i click the away message button at the bottom of the buddy list.
TigerbladeParticipantyeah – thanks… turns out i already figured it out somehow or another… yeah it always adds extra and tags, etc etc. oh well… thanks again
TigerbladeParticipantall i can think of is that someone found out or guessed her password and logged in, then deleted her contacts. I’ll have to let someone else in the forum who knows more than i do suggest a way to fix it, but i’d suggest keeping a list somewhere of the contacts on her/your list (like in a Word document) so if it happens again all you have to do is retype them… although i’d still be pissed if someone deleted all my contacts… sorry man
TigerbladeParticipantgimp is the first of several user ratings, based on how many useful posts you’ve written. right now you’re at 6posts, so you’re listed as a gimp. notice its mostly based on post quality, not necessarily quantity. go here for the list of ratings… and welcome to BBB 🙂
TigerbladeParticipantsometimes its nothing wrong with your computer or anything that you can change, sometimes its just the aim servers that cause it. i know its happened to me a few times, whether i’m at home on a modem, or at school on a fast T1 connection, or on my parents computer with a different operating system… of course there’s always the possibility that it IS something with your computer or settings, but chances are its just aim itself. unless its a constant 24/7 thing, in which case its probably a combination of something with your computer and aim
TigerbladeParticipanton the topic of fonts, if anyone is looking for some extra fonts to use, for FREE!!!, try this site – 1001 Free Fonts
TigerbladeParticipantit means it cant find the file it needs… if “AIM is not installed” then the folder might have been deleted, meaning it cant use that file path. it would help to know what operating system you have – XP, 98, Me, etc…
i’d suggest uninstalling deadAIM from whereever you have it, but keep the .exe file so you can re-install it later. then make sure you install AIM first, and then DeadAIM after…TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by BrdMc3whcih ones do i download?installer, zip compression, and source code…do i need all of them?
i imagine we only need to download the installer .exe file. at least thats what i’m doing (i’ll let you know if i’m wrong)… the zip file is just so the file is smaller, maybe if you’re strapped for space, although i dont imagine how that little bit of a difference would matter. the source code is only if you have any sort of need to view the source. most people would be utterly lost looking at the source to even a simple web page, so the source to a program like this would be mind-boggling.
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by TheBigKevDoggWhen am i not on?
well put… i think that probably sums up a lot of us… i know i’m online way too much, and my parents probably are none too happy about that, since we dont have a separate phone line… *innocent look around the room* once i get back to school i’ll probably be on even more, kinda sad i know… what can i say, small college town with little to do except sit at my computer (and drink *cough cough WHAT?*)
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by rustedtightAll Trillian users here would I assume, recommend you to try Trillian.
Eh… i tried trillian for a while, i really didnt care for it at all… i use AIM and MSN, and honestly i think its actuall just easier to have both of them running. yeah i know it’d be nice to just consolidate all the IM programs into one client, but there’s drawbacks to doing that. of course it depends on how much you use each of the respective IM clients. for me, i’d prefer to just stick with what i have. I use DeadAIM to keep all my AIM convos in one box; yes trillian has this feature (sorta), but… its still up to you – its just my opinion. the best advice is what rustedtight said about just trying it yourself.
