NEVERMIND, scatch that, there is a way just to have the away message in the profile only, so that covers that one.
How do u do that?
Go to My Aim > Edit Options > Edit Preferences
then in the preferences window, along the left hand side, select Away Message. In the options that are then listed, the first two radio buttons should be
“When away:
( ) Auto respond and insert in personal profile
( ) Insert in personal profile onlyif you dont want your away message to come up when someone IM’s you, select the second one. then just say Ok to save your changes.
TigerbladeParticipantwow… i feel really slow now… although i’ve known this for a while. 🙁 here at home this summer i’m running at only usually 44.0 Kbps, on a good day. i’d just like to state that modems suck. just in case you didnt catch that, i’ll say it again – modems suck. once i get back to school, it’ll be a T1 connection, so its a lot faster (i’m not sure the exact kbps rate, but i intend to find out…)
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by DavidOK, I’m, really getting tired of wrong answers.
hey now, some people are just posting what they know… not many people know how to do anything with the registry… dont tell me you always knew all the answers to every question? people are just trying to be as helpful as possible with what they know. i thought that was what BBB encouraged?
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by DJHyperbyteHmm… that rings a bell… let’s see. Ah! I knew I’d seen this somewhere before.
:eek:geez… i cant believe i didnt see that… although i was going kinda quick through the list of polls… sorry, anyone who’s reading this, ignore my poll and use Jeff’s from the link DJHyperbyte gave…
sorry again…edit: typo
TigerbladeParticipantyeah the warning thing can get out of hand if you have the wrong people talking to you… i know cause a few of my friends and i used to get into “warning wars” – basically we’d warn each other back and forth for no reason whatsoever, until one or both of us couldnt type… yeah i know it was stupid, what can i say 🙁 but the idea is to ONLY warn someone if they’ve done something that deserves a warning… otherwise… yeah
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by westcostchopprsNo, not anymore sorry. Your profile must be equal or less than 1024k I believe.
u meen u used 2 get unlimited space?
well, not exactly – to the best of my knowledge, you used to be able to manually update the HTML file that the profile comes from, and add extra text. the AIM profile editor only allowed a certain number of characters. you can still manually edit the profile (info.htm) but now the AIM servers start resetting profiles, or cutting them short at that limit… i’d suggest what the others mentioned, maybe getting some free webspace (thats what i did – i used http://www.freewebs.com/) or trying something like http://www.subprofile.com…
and i’m not always absolutely right, so if i’m wrong about the html file, someone correct me please
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by westcostchopprswhat dose updating do anyway (a SERIOURLY dumb question)
updating simply installs the newest version of AIM, whatever they’ve released. supposedly the new version is better, but thats not always the case, since the last few versions have just exchanged one bug for another. usually the new version will have added a feature or two, but its nothing to go nuts over…
bjigga – if you dont have problems with your current version, dont worry about updating, really!TigerbladeParticipantlooks like its wayne by a nose… actually by quite a bit… yeah he’s got the singing thing going on, plus he’s just generally funnier overall… just my opinion, you could disagree, but you’d be wrong :p
edit: wrong smiley code… geez
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by ShadowSlayer469Bleh! Yes, I hate how simplified XP is, its too “user friendly”!!! I loved the windows 95 layout and way of doing things, but I also like the features on XP. One of the most annoying things about XP is the hidden files option, really annoying while searching. It also hase some plain bad ideas on it. Waaaay to easy to hack too, I don’t feel good using it.
yeah that’s part of what was confusing, the hidden files and whatnot. plus, Windows Explorer, which i use almost every day, was hidden in a subfolder a couple layers deep. most of the people i’d do impromptu tech support for had NO idea what i was talking about whatsoever, they were just using the “my computer” display, which doesnt help at ALL, especially for moving or copying files. yeah windows is kinda getting better but mostly getting worse… who knows eventually we may all have to switch to macs… hmmmm not a bad idea though…
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by Dragon0839yeah im having trouble too…i couldnt get it and neither could a friend of mine…so is there anyway someone could make me the monkey smiley set?
Quote:quote:Originally posted by DJHyberbyteIn other words, all the smileys you see in the AIM Smilers are extracted from the AIM program… You cannot make custom smileys.
i’d just like to point out one particular part of that… “You cannot make custom smileys.”
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:The problem with that is it doesn’t hide incoming IMs. Like if you hide your list, and you get an IM, It comes up even though you want it hidden…Quote:usually with DeadAIM (at least in my experience) the incoming IM doesnt show up as a regular-sized window, its automatically minimized to the taskbar… yeah its a big flashing button with the AIM icon, but it doesnt popup as a full chat window…
i dont know if that’d help you out though…TigerbladeParticipanti dont normally lie about it, its just a matter of how accurate or specific i decide to get… yeah if i’m in an online gaming site, most of the people i play, the first thing they say (or type actually) is “asl pleeez?” – which immediately marks them as a moron, cause it really doesnt matter how old i am, if i’m a guy or girl, or where i’m from, all that matters is how good i am at the game… i’ll tell them the 18/m part, but for location i just say the usa… they dont need to know any more specific than that…
TigerbladeParticipantI think the rankings are pretty much good as they are, but some people just keep posting random, worthless information (or lack of information) over and over trying to boost their ranking. some people just dont understand its quality, not necessarily quantity that gets you advanced. otherwise, all we’d have to do is just post 100 moronic replies, each of them with one or two words… bada boom bada bing up goes the rank.
TigerbladeParticipantmy new computer runs XP, my dad’s desktop runs ME, and his notebook has 98 i think (either 98 or 2k, not sure)
i’ll admit i used to hate XP, it seemed oversimplified, but i found out later that its just the way most people had theirs configured. anytime i tried helping someone at school with computer problems, i had no idea what to do…. i realized later (once i got XP) that its actually not too bad…
TigerbladeParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by SonorkGuyaim is a mediocre sort of IM – it works, and has a LOT of users, but the quality of aim not the thing that bugs me about it – the main thing is what I suspect AOL does with the user info, and how they could sort of “guide” users in the directions they want them going (not the mention a force-fed diet of SPAM). Preying on the ignorance and naîvete of inexperienced users….
But, I guess that’s “good business”. ;o)
Just my opinion, anyway.
yeah, i like aim, its easy to use and almost everyone has it. BUT… it has some serious problems. when each successive version released fixes the old bug by simply replacing it with a new one… something’s wrong. and considering its a product of AOL, which i utterly and violently despise… almost everyone i know that uses AOL is a complete moron when it comes to computers (too bad if i offend you, its my opinion. you could disagree, but you’d be wrong :p). i still prefer AIM over MSN though – i’ve had AIM since the start of my freshman year in college, and didnt get MSN til sometime second semester…
just my two cents worth -
