There was an issue when changing from 9.0 to 8.0. When you uninstalled 9.0, did you also remove the entire yahoo folder?
There is a folder that contains the rooms lists, and it could be picking up the old ones, or not updating them at all.
Try uninstalling 8.0, and make sure you use add/remove then delete the folder located in c:program filesyahoo folder. Restart computer, and try downloading again.
Also make sure you delete your cache and history in your browser.
NettiMemberI don’t think so. I mean you can type in an html code, but it comes out as just html code, nothing else.
NettiMemberIf you have tried to call yahoo and gave them the old info you remember and they still did not give you the password, then you won’t get it back.
yahoo will keep old data in their computer, and if you can tell them exactly what the old information was, they will probably give it back to you… but if you mess up with any of the questions they ask you, then they won’t.
NettiMemberYahoo changed the profile to create a social network. Many things will be connected to this profile in the future. For safety, yahoo set everyone’s profile to private, you need to go in and make it public. The instructions for doing that are in this forum, on the links venom posted.
NettiMemberFirst, It does lock you from trying passwords, however you can log into another server and unlock it.
Its not big deal. Doesn’t matter how many times you do it, you can always unlock it by logging in to your account, mail, or a foreign server.
NettiMemberSorry for the double post, but found some more info…
Managing your alias and profile.
Well finally a day AFTER the profiles were changed they decide to put on some kind of information and instructions. hehehehe
Key features of the below
1. They apologize
2. You only have ONE profile per account, you can connect it to different alias, but not different profiles per alias.
3. How to….
4. Tutorial pageArticle is as follows:
Hi all,
Many of you have expressed your concern with the newest version of profiles, and believe me, we’re reading and hearing your comments and are committed to helping you maximize your experience with the new profiles.
First off, we want to apologize straight away for not being more proactive in communicating in advance that we were making changes to our profiles. We should have let you know that change was coming.
The first issue many of you have brought up that we’d like to address right off the bat is the concern of those of you who have aliases on Yahoo! Groups, Games, Finance, and Chat. The new profile provides users with a single identity while they’re on the Yahoo! network. Some of you may have heard about Yahoo!’s new strategy for a more open and social network, which allows for you to have one identity while you’re using Yahoo!, essentially making you, you.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t still have an “alias” while you’re on the Yahoo! network-you can still use multiple identities on Groups, Chat, or Finance. However, these aliases CANNOT have their own profile page, nor can they have any unique profile data associated with them. This means that by default when another user clicks a link pointing to your alias, they’ll be greeted by a message telling them that “there is nothing to see here,” unless you bind your alias to your primary profile. This also means that if a user tries to search for you by your alias, they won’t be able to find you.
There’s a couple of ways around this, though, that we want to make sure you know about. First of all, you can of course create a completely new account so that you have one account for each identity you want to manage.
Second, if you want to, you can bind your alias to your profile, thus merging it to your identity.
If you choose to bind your aliases to your profile, anyone who clicks a link to see what was formerly your alias profile will now only see your main profile. Additionally, anyone who searches for you by your alias will now be able to find your main profile.
You now have a choice: you can either merge your identities, allowing users to view your main profile, or, you can keep your aliases separate from your main profile even though they won’t have their own profiles. The choice is up to you.
If you do bind an alias to your profile, you need to first make sure you have a profile.
To do this, go to: http://profiles.yahoo.com and set up your profile. When you log in you’ll be asked to go through the new user flow which will pull in your old profile data and give you the option of adding new information-meaning, you don’t have to start from scratch.
Once you’ve created your new profile, go here:
From there, you’ll be able to select which aliases are searchable and linked to your profile. You’ll also have the option of disconnecting any aliases from your profile you don’t want associated with your identity.
To add altogether new aliases to your account, go here:
.
Additionally, if you wish to allow all users to view your full and complete profile, whether they’re a connection or not, you can update this information by going here:
From here, you can select what portions of your profile you want to be visible to connections, as well as to people who have not yet become a connection.
We know this has been a rough transition for some of you and, and are committed to helping you use, understand, and (hopefully) enjoy your new profile.
If you want more information on how to use your profile, start with the new profiles tutorial, located here: Welcome to the Profiles Tutorials!: Index
We also know lots of you worked hard on your old profiles and want your data. If you feel like you’re missing data, we’ve saved a copy of your old profile (and alias) and our Customer Care team can retrieve this information. You won’t, however, be able to revert back to your old profile format, but you will be able to get any data that you think is missing. To do this, please go here
to contact Customer Care.
Thanks for your patience.

Yahoo! Community ManagerNettiMemberI don’t really think any of the online checkers work 100% of the time. People have the ability to block so many different things, that the online checkers can’t cover all the options.
If someone is set up in just a normal way, the online checkers work ok, but I wouldn’t use it under the assumption that it will definitely work all the time.
There are about 7 different online checkers that work from a web site, and those seem to work ok.
NettiMemberThere’s a few glitches with the changes not holding and it reverts back to to the default. People need to keep reporting problems and hopefully by next release it will be fixed.
NettiMemberThis has been a problem on a few versions. For some reason it won’t save your default settings in the filter. You have to go in and reset it every time you log in. Its a problem on 8.1 and I would have thought they fixed it on 9.0, but I guess not.
NettiMemberHey Jeff.. I know sorry about that, hopefully that will change.
I’m not as against the new profiles as everyone else is, but I didn’t like the fact that they didn’t really explain how to set it up correctly.
Took me reading thru the Help section to realize HOW to set it up. Once it’s set up, it has the same info as the old profile, so whats the harm.
If I remember correctly Yahoo purchased MASH a year or so ago, and this is what they are using for the new profiles.

You will continue to get that error message, until you set it up, so that people can view it. Right now its set so ONLY people you approve can see it. Once you change that, as I’ve indicated above, people will be able to see it.
yahoo members.
As part of the set up process, you are asked if you want people to be able to search for you. So I don’t think this has disappeared, I think it’s changed.
It just came out yesterday and once we give people a chance to update their profiles, the search option will be back up and running.
NettiMemberThis has been happening with quite a few people lately, and what we’ve discovered, is that if you create a NEW name, you cannot use is right away. You have to wait a bit, before you can use it.
We’ve been testing this out little by little, and have found that you CAN log into chat, and you CAN get into a room, and you CAN even hear people on the mic, but you CANNOT see type in the room.
However, the next evening when they logged into the new name again, all was fine and you could then see text again.
So it could just be a yahoo thing that is taking steps to see if you are making a new name, or if you are just trying to make bots.
I have not been able to pin point an exact waiting period, and it doesn’t seem to happen to everyone, but out of the 6 people who all created names at the same time, only 1 could see type in the room.
NettiMemberThere are many many people having the exact same problem.
This is a virus/Trojan that has been going around lately. I’m not sure where it came from exactly, as I’ve heard many different Ideas. However, when you have this, it causes two things to happen to yahoo messenger. First, after you click login the messenger just disappears, or you get an error – “The exception breakpoint – A breakpoint has been reached.”
I would suggest doing a complete virus scan and a complete spyware scan with Ad-Aware and at least one other spyware scanner that have up to date definitions. I can’t stress that part enough. If your definitions are not up to date, you will not get the protection you need, nor will you get accurate results
Also, make sure you do TWO different scans with TWO different programs. These scanners are all different and have different definitions in them. Just scanning with Nortons or NOD, does not mean your system is clean.
You can do a system scan here, without downloading anything.
Trend Micro HouseCall – Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan – Trend Micro USA
You can also go to AVG, Kaspersky and other anti-virus sites that will do a system scan for you.
The one virus that keeps popping up with people has to do with AMVO
Check and see if you see this file either in your task manager or by doing a search for amvo.exe
[amva] C:WINDOWSsystem32amvo.exe
amv0.dllOr click on control alt and delete to bring up your task bar and look at processes, and see if you see this running.
NettiMemberYep, should have mentioned that – sorry.
This new file should work for All Chat Clients as well.
September 5, 2007 at 5:43 pm in reply to: I’m assuming Yahoo Chat folks are reading these posts? #163717NettiMemberExactly Mfenech… Which is WHY there are only 5 programmers working on yahoo messenger… No revenue.
Due to the law suits brought upon yahoo, many advertisers have pulled out, not wanting their name associated with “child endangerment”.
And Yahoo chat is BOTH a program AND a service. Both of which are free to all users. Of course I would never accept this type of service from my cable company which I pay a lot of money to.
I’m not disagreeing with what anyone is saying at all… But the simple fact is, that yahoo will put more time, energy and resources into their PAID email accounts, their PAID internet service and their PAID web sites, then they will for some of their free services. I don’t agree with it, but thats what happens.
I’m actually amazed that yahoo did work on messenger at all. And am really impressed that we’re getting regular updates from their blog. So maybe their on their way to a change.
