Doris KenneyParticipant
With all the changes they made to profiles, it’s likely you just need to look at your privacy settings in your Live ID profile. Sign in online and see if you have them set too high. Those are the basis for all your contacts now (and what they can or can’t see.)

Doris KenneyParticipantOrange Messenger appears to be a pretty ISP specific program. You can find more info on it here. I wasn’t able to find anything about chat logs. I’m afraid you may have to contact them since it appears to be company specific, although it is developed to work with Windows Live.
Good luck!
Doris KenneyParticipantJust remember that editing registry entries improperly can render your computer inoperable. If you are not comfortable in doing so, ask someone to help you.

Doris KenneyParticipantThe badge program replaced the i’m initiative. Have you tried adding a badge, and then deleting it – to see if it will replace the info?
Doris KenneyParticipantIn Messenger:
- Click on your name in the main Messenger window
- Click the “change display name” link
- Delete the i’m logo in the “type your name as you want others to see it” box
In Hotmail:
- Click the Options link in the top right
- Click more options
- Click on personal email signature under the Customize your mail header
- Delete the *cause name information
In Personal Status Message:
- Click on your Personal Status Message
- Delete the *cause name code
Let me know if you need any more help.
Doris KenneyParticipantThat is correct. WLM 2011 requires Vista or Windows 7 to run.
The 2009 version will continue to function for XP users (and anyone who hasn’t upgraded yet) but don’t expect to see any new versions or bug fixes in the old version.

Doris KenneyParticipantThat is the stable version. WLM 2011 has always been usable. I’ve had it since the first beta release and have had very few issues with it. I never had a time when it was not functional. Since the stable version was released I’ve had no problems at all.
The online/offline problem was around even in the last version. Same thing with messages not being sent. From time to time these things happen. The are server related, not version related.
There will be some features of the new version that do not work if your contacts are still on XP and using the old version of the program. You’ll need to take these into account when looking at what is really a problem and what isn’t.
Links have also been disabled when they are sent to users using the old version. There is a malicious worm that has been spreading and the old version is not protected, so they have temporarily disabled active links. WLM 2011 however is not affected by this because of the additional security features – so you will still see active links if they are sent to you.
I’m not sure exactly what you are still experiencing in terms of problems, but there is no reason not to use the new version.
Doris KenneyParticipantThere is a stable build of the new WLM. What build number are you using?

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it fixed it. Definitely worth a try.
Lemme know if that takes care of it.
Edit: While I doubt it would be a problem on the iPad, you might also make sure your date and time are correct. I know someone who couldn’t sign in online because of that problem.

Doris KenneyParticipantAs for your nickname, it isn’t going to happen. By default Windows Live will show whatever first and last name you have in your Live ID profile. And the profile requires “something” in the last name field even if it’s a “.” or an initial. The concept was that people you have on your friends list are indeed your friends and probably know your name from Windows Live or another social site. I know this is a heated topic, and many users share your feelings on this change.
As for pop-ups, have you gone to Tools/Options/Notifications (from the main menu) and set your preferences. There is a link there to manage your social site notifications as well. Perhaps you might consider turning off the toast for new emails since you can see the count on the icon?
I personally have a lot of social sites connected to WLM and the only pop-ups I receive are when a contact signs in. It’s easy enough to manage if you take the time to look at the new options. I also start it on the compact view so I don’t have to see the big social updates screen. I prefer to check that when it’s convenient. By starting in compact view, it’s “almost” like the old version in that respect.
If the social feeds and notifications are a big issue you could also unlink them from your profile. The downside is that if you have linked Facebook you wouldn’t see those contacts. That’s something of a personal choice. However, they weren’t visible in the old version so it might be another option to consider.
Good luck!
Doris KenneyParticipantI’m pretty sure your contacts can request to be on your profile as well. Perhaps with your connection issues you accidentally accepted what you thought was a contact request when it was a request to be on your profile.
Either way, things are changing and what your contacts can see is changing. So for anyone who hasn’t checked out the new privacy settings on your Live ID I definitely recommend doing so.
Doris KenneyParticipantFlipboard, Kindle, Teamviewer (it’s not specific to the iPad but it’s way better on the iPad than the iPhone).
Doris KenneyParticipantAfraid there is no direct tethering. You could attempt to use Connectify on a Windows 7 laptop.
Supposedly you can share any internet connection using your laptop’s Wi-Fi card. I’m not sure if it will work or not but it would be worth a try.
You could test it easily enough with an iPhone. If it works for that then it should work fine for an iPad. (As an aside – if you try it on an iPhone I’d be interested to hear the results.)
Doris KenneyParticipant😉 Wi-fi+3G you never know when you’ll need it or where you may be when you’ll wish you had it. Not to mention, you can activate or deactivate the data plan based on when you need it like if you are traveling. At least you’ll have the option.
I like having 64gb of storage but 32 would really probably suffice. You’ll probably regret it if you only get 16.
