ParticipantI am not sure if this will work but try deleting your “StoredIM” . I am not sure if this will help in your case, but sometimes offline boots stay in your messenger folder and mess it up when you start it. Also, recheck that in your privacy section message only from people on list isnt checked and the only other thing I can think of (other than yahoo! problems, and as johnson said it does happen often) is that it might be your firewall. I tried free version of zonealarm with windowsxp home and i’ve noticed it sometimes stops messages on yahoo or even wouldnt let me join chatrooms, but when i turned it off, all was good again. Just a thought.

if u r a senior member in this forum, then ….Your status goes up by the number of posts you send, rather than computer knowledge. Either way, I doubt they’ll kick me out for not knowing what unwise is. Confusion over?

ParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by BrianI have forgotten about this. I tried backdoors.to/yahoo and played with it for a while. I noticed whenever I remove someone on both lists, the alias on my list WAS NOT removed for some reason but when I repeated removing, it would tell me that it does not exist on the other person’s Yahoo.
The ID shows on their list till messenger refreshes (automatically after a certain amount of time or manually, Ctrl R) . Then the ID is removed. Either that, or if they log out, when they log back in, then the ID is gone. That’s why you get the “so and so doesn’t have such and such ID in their list”. On the server the ID has been removed.

Yahoo does have the worst sounds, it’s like they picked out the most annoying sounds and put them on their messenger, lol, most people don’t use them.I HATE Yahoo sounds! I replaced yahoo sound folder with ICQ’s. I am still trying to figure out what kind of a person would go “there are lots of people out there who want to hear a cow bell everytime they get a message. Lets put that sound on”.

ParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by j_hop_99i do not want terrorists usen my computer as a server to do destruction thats all but seem to think thats ok ……………
Oh for the love of god! This mass hysteria over terrorism has got to stop. Look, do you honestly think there are terrorists sitting around in yahoo chat, waiting for someone’s open port, so they can take over their computer and errr… “do destruction”?
FYI i checked my ports (80 & 81) and they are both closed despite y!tunnel. Anyone worried, can in addition to y!tunnel also run a firewall.

Again, it seems to me that you are just trying to make it to Senior status on the site in the shortest amout of time possible….to get your jollies is it?? LOL……THAT’S SO FUNNY!Umm… do you like get a prize if you get to “senior status” ?
Look people, he may not be very nice, but some of the information he is giving out are actually useful – securing ID because you never know who is after it.
But then again some of them are very bad —> deleting primary e-mail ID because you CAN’T recreate it. Ignore that advice.
So use the ones that are good, ignore the ones that are bad and if you can’t distinguish between the good and the bad, just ignore them and try and co-exist.
Oh also, you can’t use the “you give information and bad people will find it and hack good people’s account” logic. Its like saying “dont give yahoo.com’s address because bad people will use it to find bad information on it and use that info to annoy good people”.
Just my two cents worth.
Oh and Johnson, I saw the ICQ post, and let me tell you, finding private information about member’s of this board and then posting them up for everyone to see is really really really lame.

I just deleted an alias off my main id, and remade it, you should be able to delete the email account, when my friend gets on i will ask himYou can delete Aliases, you can also delete yahoo mail. The diff. is tht with yahoo mail you don’t get to recreate the account again, or use the ID again. With Alias, you can recreate it almost immediately.
To test, create an e-mail account, delete it and see what happens.
arwen10024
ParticipantYou can’t. I deleted a primary yahoo ID which i used for e-mail and chat and since then, even though its been a year, if I try it on messenger it says “account locked due to security reason”, although s’pposedly it should’ve become available in 60 days. If you dont want to use it for e-mail don’t . Just set up another account, but you delete it, youve lost it.

ParticipantJohnson, all that stuff you said about the birthday info is very informative but that only works provided people actually use their correct information/zip code, and who DOES that?! Honestly, who here actually put in their correct informationa and zip code in their account information when signing? I know *I* didn’t! YOu can use any date that’s easy to remember, you can go through whitepages.com for any country and use a fake zipcode thats also easy to remember, and no one will be any wiser. Its not like yahoo requires proof of ID to sign up. And you can create a hotmail account (again fake info) etc….
So how do you know the information you get off people’s list is the correct information? Answer is , you can’t.

ParticipantDo you do “disconnect” THEN sign out of yahoo and exit? I know it’s silly to say, but sometimes its tiny things like that, that we overlook, sensibly thinking that if you signout and exit it should turn off your light but doesn’t really work with yahoo!. Uh… also there are rumors of messenger status thing being a bit off lately. Does this happen usually or happened recently?
Also, maybe you can try going into yahoo webpage (profile and things) and sign off there too. I don’t know if this works with messenger, but i remember in the early days before I learnt to set my online status as invisible (in profile section) if I didn’t sign out from yahoo web, if someone checked my profile, it would show as online.

ParticipantThat’s a Yahoo! glitch. It’s very very annoying and i have had a couple of people annoyed because they think I ignored them in the chat, which I didn’t. I just couldn’t see them. I think I saw this in Nhyrvana (she can confirm or you can go to the site http://www.nhyrvana.com ) that it is because the servers don’t see eachother and you can fix it by signing off from yahoo and logging back in or do a re-fresh.
So the final answer is, you can’t become invisible in yahoo chatrooms (99.9% sure).

2. Monitor and track ur buddy when , how long they are online, get
report out of it.Hmmm… I think the word “monitor” should be replaced with “Stalking” . As in “Stalking the people you are obsessed with, when and how long they are online and get a report.
A cool feature of such programs however, would be an IP revealer. Now I know everyone’s going to say “oooh. thats bad. Thats invasion of privacy” but I do want to know the IP of people who message me, juust as I have a caller ID installed to know who is calling me. If a person annoys me, I want their IP to report them. To hell with their privacy. MY [/b]peace of mind is more important.
Anyway, big no to your stalking tool. Make it helpful, not hurtful (lame, but rhymes :))

ParticipantMy Yahoo Spam guard works really well actually. I can’t speak for the masses, but I dont get any spams in my INBOX. I’ve also heard that you aren’t s’ppose to e-mail back to the spam e-mails to ask to be unsubscribed, because that just confirm that they have your correct e-mail address and then send you trice as many crap as before.
arwen10024
Participantoh, you are so gonna be unnpopular here. You can trace people’s IP (to the city where their ISP/ISP Hub is) through http://www.visualroute.com . However, you have to get the IP first and there are a zillion of posts on this topic (why its bad, why stalking is wrong, why people’s privacy matters and tentative how to’s ) if you do a search…

ummmm im not taking this hard on myself and im not crying about it, if … thats what im talking about there so why should i join in groups, etc? when it doesnt interest me? …. if i wanted to be so hard on myself i would come here and get weird attention out of the blue thank you have a nice day 😉I’m sorry. I am a bit confused. You did come here and you did post about it. So does this mean you DO care and it does interest you and you are being hard on yourself?
I do have a tiny advice though, despite your apparant rudeness. One thing that happens to me alot is when you have a semi ok conversation with someone and they immediately add you to their list and you feel a bit bad about saying “no.. i don’t want to talk to you after this” when the person has been going on about their life story. So you allow the add, but later the person becomes pesky and you either remove your ID from their list or more likely remove their ID from your list and possibly ignore them or stay invisible so you wont get a message from them. The moral of the story is, don’t be quick to add people to your list and make sure you both really want to continue with further conversations before you do.
But hey, as long as it doesn’t “bother” you.
